I grew up in that neighborhood and I HATE night tornadoes. It always seemed growing up like tornadoes only popped up as it got dark... And the only way to know it's coming at you is to watch for debris blowing close enough to see it 🤪😳 you are some brave dudes
1. It's much harder to see through a video than when you are live in front of it. 2. You have to know WHAT you are looking for 3. Storm Spotter/Chasers such as myself kind of "train our brain" to quickly process what our eyes see in the milisecond of a lightning flash. If you pay close attention whenever the lightnight flashes, you'll see it too. :)
I left my house that night to go to downtown Dallas before it started to rain and it was just a tornado watch. As I was leaving my house, it started to rain and then started to rain really hard. I was driving down south on the Dallas North Tollway when I heard the tornado sirens start going off and then my phone weather alert sounded a siren and said to "Take cover immediately! Tornado is in your area." It sure was. I later found out there was one on the east and west side of the DNT and I had just been a few miles ahead of the tornado as it tore through a neighborhood that backs up to the DNT. A few days later. I was again, driving downtown on the DNT in the daytime on my way to work and I saw that it was very very very close to where I was and I had no idea at the time how close I missed it. Whew! I was going 65mph and they said the tornado was going 25mph so it's a good thing it wasn't rush hour traffic.
No one was killed or injured. All the damage can be rebuilt as it always happens in this kid of disaster. The most important thing is that no one was baldly hurt or killed. The high school I graduated from (Thomas Jefferson) was badly damaged. It hurt to see the pictures but I know they will rebuild and make it even better than before.
Driver should 100% concentrate on the road,. passenger should focus 100% on the tornado - they should both communicate only the *necessary* info between each other for capturing footage, AFTER any safety communication needs. Thanks for sharing this, exciting stuff! I heard there were no fatalities, if true, then it's all good news. :)
I was on the road in that area the night it happened... I didn't even know there was a cyclone in the area... I was driving down the Bush Turnpike, and all the sudden things got crazy... Construction barrels and other debris started flying around in the air, and I couldn't hardly keep the car on the road... I barely got a glimpse of the funnel as it crossed in front of me in the distance... Tornadoes at night are scary, because you can not see it unless you're looking in the right direction when the lightning flashes!
There was a car wash by Harry Hines that was just completely erased off existence. Me and my family were on the freeway on our way back home right when the tornado started. It was right behind us. We managed to get off the freeway and into a gas station for shelter. Some pretty scary shit. Next day we went to see the damage and I was jus surprised on how one minute something is there and the next minute it’s destroyed
Man did my ptsd go off crazy. I wasn't even around that area or even close to a tornado, the sirens didn't even go off but I steady lost it and couldn't stay calm man xD I tried to make sure my baby momma and baby were okay though, good thing is that we made it ok just hope that everyone who went thru that is doing fine and better
That tornado hit the school I was going and it destroyed places close like 2 minutes away the good thing that it didn’t shift to my Direction or I would of been dead
I always hate having to explain tornadoes to people that know nothing then they question you as your the one that doesn’t know what your talking about. as they had to do. Everyone with half a brain cell knows. Tracks 99% of the time are East/North-East/South-East. Normally the bigger monsters. Trq right on strengthening and turn left curl on weakening. But literally my 24th chase was jarrell and I’m embarrassed to say the tornado and myself headed towards each other for longer than I would like to admit because it was moving South-West and almost straight west at one point on the micro scale. It completely caught me with my pants down. Never did I imagine a monster F-5 tracking in such a unpredictable manner. We didn’t have live radar grlevel2 or baron in 1997. Or I didn’t. Normally all the f3 to F5 from 1997 forward have been very predictable. Yes like greensburg tracked west but it was just revolving around the meso which is what I would call normal behavior. That’s why we call the bears cage being inside the hook. If she rides the merry go round your in trouble. Like elreno. I wouldn’t call that unpredictable with the low level s-n jet.

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing
@Mark Hammond I saw the tornado several times in the video. They even paused it to show it and it was very easy to see, at least for me.
You should've highlighted the tornado
I didnt even realize there was 2 tornados at the same time this day....
