Great review…I was looking at getting a decent SUV to explore Australia…tested a few RAVs and when I came to the 2011 X-Trial 6 speed manuel (Petrol)… I was impressed. Was a no brainer…happy with my purchase.
Yes mate totally agree got a 2009 with 210K on the clock 2.0 litre turbo diesel 6 speed manual replaced the front drive shaft new wheel bearings also had to replace the boost solenoid valve really easy to work on cheers
Totally agree. We are stilling enjoying our 2010 2.0 petrol manual. Zero engine issues as well. Changed the clutch at 210 000km. City driving mostly. Also changed shocks, brake pads, tyres.
As far as i know CVT gearbox has problems like overheating because NS2 fluid lose viscosity as they generate a lot of heat because of the two pulley inside them. As they overheat they make a whinning noise, loosing power, getting into limp mode at 20 mph or 60mph, and when climbing up hills they lack power. And very funny of them cant go above 100 or sometimes 120 mph although maximum speed is 180mph after travelling about 300km to 400km. Am getting amazed when you say no issues with the CVT.😮😮😮
i totally agree also ive had zero problems not even suspension heaps of power amazing engine very comfortable must be a manual and 2.5 petrol is best i love it ill have this car for life
Great review thanks! I'm looking at buying a used 2nd gen X-Trail right now but my budget isn't huge. There are many available but not many that haven't already done a couple hundred thousand ks. Also, if it can survive the back roads of Africa so well I have hope for it in Australia. 😂
My car is no big problem, just changed a few small spare parts, as usual the rubber on the bottom, and the part that the shoes are replaced like other vehicles...
I agree better looking then the following year's model .. I have 1 and going to keep it but just interested in upgrading stereo system to have sensors and cameras..
Is yours petrol or diesel? If I buy the t31 2.0 diesel dci is the car as reliable as the petrol? Is the diesel 2010 reliable? Is it a Japanese engine or from the Renault? Thanks [currently have rav4 2.2d4d]
Howzit! Cool vid. Any recommendations for a workshop/ mechanic in Cape Town who can do the timing chain kit replacement on the T31 pls? (Other than the dealerships) Cheers!
@@Africasideways Have you ever heard of T31, 2L 6 speed Turbo automatic diesel???? they say it uses normal Automatic transmission but not CVT. Is this true??? And how is its durability???
unlifted the X-trail struggles on tough tracks in the clearance department. Traction is great thou, with the centre diff. Does really well on gravel roads. After a lift and bigger tyre it can keep up with a standard Pajero. But if you plan on doing a lot of tough tracks, the Pajero would be better. It has low range and clearance standard.
@@Africasideways getting it service tomorrow, it's really nice I might say, all I need to do is change tired and get a wheel alignment, maybe change shocks and I'm good, otherwise it's clean and fully functional, leather interior, 2.5 petrol t31 with the moon roof

Hey bud. So I got a 2011 2.5 manual. 198k on the clock. Very very lekker car. Just fuel consumption I think is a bit heavy. Bearing in mind I had a Renault Triber before. 1L engine I think. What is the fuel consumption you getting? And how many k’s can you get in a full tank? I’m also in sunny CPT as well. See you on the road brother!
Nice dude, fuel consumption is much better on highway when up to speed, around 9l per 100km, 11 plus in city, but I have bigger tyres. Free flow exhaust improves consumption, as cat likely blocked. but pretty good considering weight. Lol, can't compare that pos triber with this. You can get 500km easy off a tank, 65 litres. Enjoy. need to take her for some gravel travel.
I think that we could see quite clearly that the o/s rear was open. If the other side was as well, it definitely wouldn't have helped matters. Windows closed for future reviews please mate.
@@aneesmusharaf877 Please send link, the first generation xtrail diesels gave more problems than the 2.2 diesel. Know of somebody who had to overhaul the engine for big money, almost the cost of the car. The 2 litre petrol is also weak. 2.5 petrol strong and the 2.2 diesel. 2.5 petrol is economical on open road, 8/9l per 100.

Thanks for sharing, happy motoring! Lemme know how you get on. Good to get a nice set of AT tyres, and little lift if you going more serious offroad.

my 2013 cvt t31 330000km now! 0 issue1 love it!

reverse camera is great, sensors don't really do that much, more distraction. you can get aftermarket touch screen stereo. .
What do you think about the 2010 NT31 2.5 petrol xtrail on 98000 mileage?
barely broken in.
I am planning on getting a 2011 T31 2.5L petrol with QR25 engine. What do you advise?
get a nice set of AT tyres one size up, good choice.

Can try Steenberg Motors in Retreat. I use Tonnesons in Plumstead, but they don't do more than service.
How can you say about Xtrail T31. 2.5 L, gasoline, 6 speed Manual Vs 2.0L Diesel 6 speed Manual Turbo???? Which one is good???
both are good, just avoid the auto CVT gearbox.

Hey any advice about the 2.2dci t30? I'm between that or a t31 2.0 petrol pre facelift
Hi, T31 is the one to go for. Diesel or 2.5 Petrol. Avoid the auto and the 2l petrol.
@@Africasideways the 2.5s tax is to high in my country sadly
the diesel T31 in Manual is best bet then.

@@kevinpicur7739 t31 diesel is fine. 2l petrol is underpowered.
Where did you buy your Xtrail T31 seems 6 speed manual petrol are very rare. Can't find one.
At a dealer 9 years ago, not rare in my experience, just keep on lookin.
So basically what you're saying is it's a toss up between this or a fully kitted 2021 Defender?
not even close, the defender is a mall hopper now.
Petrol or diesel?
It's no good saying how good the engine is without telling us what it is?
2.5 petrol
What's wrong the front suspension on the x?
ok for road use, tends to wear out quickly when offroading often. Just get better shocks when you need to replace.

How about diesel engine?
The 2L in the T31 is good, avoid the one in the T30, but the petrol is the most reliable, diesel more economical.
