AMG is the only company that can make better exhaust sounds with a turbocharged engine. Try explaining that to the engineers M division. But I like the Electronic 4wd system, 4matic. It's pretty good idea and I got that on my GL550. Complicated to understand for some, but amazing feature rather than an AWD that can add weight to the vehicle. RWD at full throttle, AWD at moments where there is less traction.

I actually like this car a lot. Living in the Midwest it would be the perfect daily driver. Good looking inside and out, luxurious, and fast as hell. One of the best Mercedes of late.
For me the perfect e63 would be the 4wd system and interior from this one, the looks of the old prefacelift one with the prefacelift 6.2 and the facelift tailights
It's not a pretty car, it's blunt and huge. The older models looked better and were more graceful with hits of aggression. e55 amg w211 was the last good looking E Class.

About time AWD became the norm for cars in this league - with the clever option to select 'RWD drift' mode for fun, of course. That's waaay too much power to deliver only to the rear wheels. Thing is, will Mercedes retrofit the S63 sedan/coupe with this technology? Very annoying that I can get an S63 coupe with magic body control but no AWD, or AWD but no magic body control. And no AWD option for right-hand drive either. Right now, why spend more money on the S Class when the E Class is not only better but cheaper too!

The wind noise and all that, isn't wheels or arches, it's the poor built quality that owners are reporting. Great design, apparently good materials, but everything starts to go bad after a bit. just a quick search on mbworld on the c63 section and you will see all types of noises and fails, from random safety features, turning off, to massive amounts of rattles because the car slept out of the garage for a couple of weeks, to random rattles from new, to rattles appearing now, in winter. There is every type of defect reported, related to the interior. Taxi drivers aren't happy too from what I have been hearing, reporting the rattles, parts falling off, some engine failings, but this is more hearsay.
+Cut de Pie Fails Got a new CLS 63S this year, and it's been a nightmare. Boot not opening, making strange noises when it does, rattling, buzzing in front doors when playing music, paint blemishes, dodgy wipers, strange noises underneath. Lots of vibrating and rattling in cabin since weather has got colder. Not good.
Had one......worst Benz Ive ever owned.Had no issues with it but for the price I was expecting much more refinement.Why put such a nice sound system in a car that your never going to appreciate at road speed as there is so much cabin noise. Mine was 2018,& not even a touch screen!! Unnecessary gimmicky screen controls duplicated about four times.......Why? suspension so damn harsh that rattles were happening in the doors.I only covered 8K and got sick of it. Back to a much better built older model.
4:20 there's two little track pads (like the one on your phone) to the left and right of the steering wheel. The one on the left controls the left screen, and the one on the right controls the right screen. They are both touch sensitive and clickable (again, just like the one on your phone). That ease of use alone and the beautiful screens themselves are why i want this car over the M5 or RS7. I'm sure you're not spreading misinformation on purpose and i'm sure you didn't have long with the car. Mistakes are made but they should always be corrected. Feel like not enough journalists care to do so.
Only proper petrol heads will admire this car :) To everyone else ,it just looks like another cool E-Class . It will get looks but nobody is gonna be standing next to it for more Instagram likes.
AMG is fucking brilliant!!! They give AWD to you for when you want/need it. THEN, they allow you to go full RWD for that pure sports car feel too. THIS IS THE MOST BADASS SEDAN EVER MADE!!! God I need one, like now please.
2:32 That feature is on my A6 -16 as well, it uses the regenerating discs when coasting. Though what I don't understand is why it declutches it and makes the engine idle, it'll just burn fuel when you can make the wheels run the engine thus no fuel burning what so ever. Sure, at very high speeds the speed will make up the distance for the amount of fuel burned, but is it otherwise? Okey if the engine disconnected the time belt that's connected to the battery and only let the regenerating discs power the battery at that very moment but Audi doesn't do that, BMW do though. Anyone has an explanation to that?
As far as looks this new E63 and outgoing M5 always bored me especially compared to the M3/M6 or the C63/S63. Matter a fact I don't even like the new C63 neither. They just can't seem to get design right. Loved the RS6 and the V10 M5 though.

As an AMG fan, overall I’m disappointed especially if one is considering parting with over $280K Australian dollars. There is increased cabin noise which has resulted from poor insulation as a trade-off to reduce fuel consumption. Similar complaint to the new C 63 S AMG, with increased noise coming from the wheels.The two 12.3’’ display screens side by side may look amazing, but you may need to attend a 7 day training course just to be able to use everything. The re-design of the seats looks ugly with the black material running through the sides & back rests. The front star grill & lower front bumper bar could have been designed better; the use of black plastic in the grill area for air flow makes the whole appearance look ugly & cheap. The 4-matic still needs some refining compared to the current 991.2 911 Turbo all wheel drive. Also, in comfort mode, the car does not absorb bumps in the road surface very well, making it a much firmer ride.If you’re thinking of buying one & absolutely abusing the f... out of it & trading it in after a few years, then go for it. If you’re looking at keeping the car for the next 10 years, the $280K Australian dollars with all the above mentioned is a big compensation to make.

For MB fans this a is a no brainer, looks great, lots of power and extraordinary cabin luxury - Take it form BMW fan. I don´t fancy Mercedes and its not because of their cars, but because what lies behind the Brand statement. In any case the latest generation of Sport models by MB are great looking - all their Concept efforts has paid off very well indeed. This new power train +4 Matic must give AUDI and BMW a few things to think about for next generations.

Kaisuke971 it's also 3.4 to 60, but AMG as well as Porsche and Audi, are known for underestimating their 0-60 times. An SLS, a standard one and not a black series, was tested at 3.2/3.3. This thing could be a 3.0/3.1. It's quick, but it doesn't have the highest top speed, as it is a family saloon after all
you are wrong about the competition not being as powerful as the E63s. At least from Audi. The RS7/RS6 performance has 605 hp although the Merc has an advantage in the torque department :)
James R. Astor from Austria Only in LHD. So not in the UK. I have a 2016 CLS 63S,and it is rear wheel drive. In the US it is 4matic only. In the Uk 4 magic has not been available, or in any RHD country.
Almost all of the AMG cars have had 4matic. S class, GLC, GLE, GLS, CLS, E, G, and CLA. In most countries, the only ones that weren't 4matic were the GTS and the C class

Downsizing ahoy. I guess the 4.0L V8 AMG that debuted in the AMG GT will be replacing all the 5.5L V8's in other models. Few more horses at the cost of some torque (E63S model from 900 to 850 NM).

These are expensive playthings. What would real world long-distance drivers buy from Mercedes? The AWD helps deal with some types of hazardous road conditions. It is interesting to see our host demonstrate his exceptional driving skills and coordination...but that's not me.

The only Thing that bothers me is the wierd way the hood is cut out. It Kind of Looks like it is sitting on top of the actual bonnet. I don't mean the bulges, those are fine. Compare it to a standard E class. That one has a much better looking hood. Really don't get why they went with that wierd shape.

Samie Sahim - I'm in the UK. Nm is fast becoming the standard here. Manufacturers websites quote Nm (even ford.co.uk - an American manufacturer). This makes it tougher to compare like for like when some people use lb-ft.
I agree that it'd be easier, but if we were to adopt Nm for torque we would have to start measuring power in kW as it wouldn't make sense to measure torque in a metric system but carry on using an imperial measurement for power, since in this country (and in the US for that matter) the imperial system is what we use for everything (I mean we even measure road speed in miles per hour) I believe Ford advertise torque figs in Nm either as a generalisation for their euro-spec cars or they could just be trying to show off a larger number for marketing (last one is highly unlikely, but hey, businesses are tricky to read haha)
Samie Sahim - Nah, we've got the metric horsepower (otherwise known as PS). Not 100% sure who uses kWh but I think Australia & South Africa do. No European countries do... they've all adopted PS which is almost identical to the imperial horse power. We just need to stop being awkward in the UK :p

The one thing that is for sure is that the E Class interior is much better than anything BMW or Audi has to offer. It's just a great place to be.

Ben Smith the sls has been tested to be quicker than 3.5 though. But I'm sure this e63 will be quicker than 3.4 as well
The previous E63S was already quicker than that to 60. And 3.4 is to 62 not 60...

you are wrong about the competition not being as powerful as the E63s. At least from Audi. The RS7/RS6 performance has 605 hp although the Merc has an advantage in the torque department :)

James R. Astor from Austria Only in LHD. So not in the UK. I have a 2016 CLS 63S,and it is rear wheel drive. In the US it is 4matic only. In the Uk 4 magic has not been available, or in any RHD country.

Almost all of the AMG cars have had 4matic. S class, GLC, GLE, GLS, CLS, E, G, and CLA. In most countries, the only ones that weren't 4matic were the GTS and the C class

Downsizing ahoy. I guess the 4.0L V8 AMG that debuted in the AMG GT will be replacing all the 5.5L V8's in other models. Few more horses at the cost of some torque (E63S model from 900 to 850 NM).
It is strange that you go on about how the 4wd system changed the E63, like, have you missed the whole previous generation?

AMG is way over BMW and AUDI , and people need to accept it , and understand that they are nothing like , maybe they're in the same class but with different Characters , Audi cars are basically FWD cars with the amazing Quattro system , AMG and Bmw are RWD based cars , with both comfort and fun purposes .
people said these mercedes sound good they do but heard a couple in real life and boy was i upset it was so low i could barely hear it. dissapointing, turbos ruined v8s not performance wise but its character they are not loud at all

These are expensive playthings. What would real world long-distance drivers buy from Mercedes? The AWD helps deal with some types of hazardous road conditions. It is interesting to see our host demonstrate his exceptional driving skills and coordination...but that's not me.

Why does every automotive journalist say different horsepower numbers for this car? I've heard 602, 604, 609, 611, 612, 619, and 621.
Rodney Jones I'm guessing the lowest figure is at the wheels on a hot day, at altitude, while the highest figure is at the crank at optimal conditions.
Some people read from other media and get it wrong, whereas others use hp/bhp/PS which are also not 100% equal.
This with snow tires here would be a beast.
The only Thing that bothers me is the wierd way the hood is cut out. It Kind of Looks like it is sitting on top of the actual bonnet. I don't mean the bulges, those are fine. Compare it to a standard E class. That one has a much better looking hood. Really don't get why they went with that wierd shape.

Alot of road and wind noise? that's total bs and completely out of it for someone like me. Have never been so crazed about excessive power and speed so this is clearly not for me even if I had so much money to throw away.
AWD is great in a performance car though. Mercedes needs to stay competitive.

Can you pleeeeeeeeease start quoting torque in newton metres? Every time you say "pound foot" (especially minus the words "of torque") it really gets my goat.
James Wilcox in the U.K. we use lb-ft to measure torque. kW and Nm aren't really what we're accustomed to here in terms of measurements.
Samie Sahim - I'm in the UK. Nm is fast becoming the standard here. Manufacturers websites quote Nm (even ford.co.uk - an American manufacturer). This makes it tougher to compare like for like when some people use lb-ft.
I agree that it'd be easier, but if we were to adopt Nm for torque we would have to start measuring power in kW as it wouldn't make sense to measure torque in a metric system but carry on using an imperial measurement for power, since in this country (and in the US for that matter) the imperial system is what we use for everything (I mean we even measure road speed in miles per hour)
I believe Ford advertise torque figs in Nm either as a generalisation for their euro-spec cars or they could just be trying to show off a larger number for marketing (last one is highly unlikely, but hey, businesses are tricky to read haha)
Samie Sahim - Nah, we've got the metric horsepower (otherwise known as PS). Not 100% sure who uses kWh but I think Australia & South Africa do. No European countries do... they've all adopted PS which is almost identical to the imperial horse power. We just need to stop being awkward in the UK :p
