This week we are Travelling to Bendigo . Bendigo is a city in Victoria, Australia. Originally a gold rush boom town, it's home to the mid-1900s Central Deborah Gold Mine. Vintage Talking Trams run through the city, providing audio commentary on gold mining history. The Golden Dragon Museum celebrates the area's Chinese heritage through artefacts and artwork. Established in 1858, Bendigo Pottery offers pot-making workshops and ceramics displays.
We left Our converted Ford transit campervan at home and booked the pooch pad at Bendigo big for ascot holiday park. "BIG4 Bendigo Ascot Holiday Park provide modern self contained holiday accommodation and caravan sites, in a quiet location close to the Bendigo CBD. They offer family friendly holiday facilities and even cater for your dog." Set in gardens, this down-to-earth resort is a 5-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, a 10-minute walk from Bendigo Racecourse and 2 km from Bendigo Golf Club.
Cabins and cottages feature kitchens, living areas and sofas, plus TVs, DVD players and free Wi-Fi; some have terraces.
There's an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a mini-golf course and a kids' playground, plus BBQ areas and a games room. Parking is available.
Hudson my nephew loved playing on all the fantastic facilities in the park.
On the first day we travelled to see The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion is a Buddhist monument being constructed near Bendigo in central Victoria, Australia.The basic idea for building the stupa came from Lama Yeshe and then, after Lama Yeshe's death, from Lama Zopa Rinpoche, who decided to model the stupa (kumbum) on the Great Stupa of Gyantse which is 600 years old.When completed, the stupa's exterior will be an exact replica of the Great Stupa of Gyantse. It will be 50 metres (160 ft) high and its four sides will each be 50 metres (160 ft) long, making it one of the largest Buddhist monuments in the Western world. Buddhists say that viewing the stupa will help purify the mind.
In side The Great Stupa we got to see a million-dollar Buddha, carved out of jade, that has seen more cities and faces than you or I could dream of. He sits patiently in meditation pose.
On the last day we headed to Killiecrankie Wines . A venture of John Monteath and Claire Hull.
A viticulturist with over 20 years’ experience, John has and is currently working with some of the pre-eminent vineyards in the Bendigo and Heathcote wine regions. Grapes are sourced from a limited number of meticulously tended vineyards in the Bendigo and Heathcote wine regions. The wines are made in the true garagiste style with hand plunged ferments, basket pressing and minimal intervention. The resultant wines are elegantly proportioned with fine texture and balance.
