When others cover Mark Farner's music, it makes me appreciate brother Mark all the more as a singer and a songwriter, because it shows he touched a lot of people
lets start with great band, Marcus has surrounded himself with excellent musicians! i hope these guy are around for a long time bringing us this stuff. Marcus is an incredible player and the voice kicks in and takes it to the stratosphere .........
Excellent performance and review. I am so happy to see young musicians with soul like yourself. As a child of the 70s, I grew up listening to blues based rock and took for granted the talent we were blessed with hearing every day. Thank you for sharing the blues in all it's formats to your generation. The world needs "real" music these days.
I never heard Marcus King rock out like that. It's a must then that he team up with Taj Farrant another Blues rock chart topper for a jam. That would be epic. Throw in Eric Gales too!
I hope this don't sound weird, but it does my heart good to see a brother getting off on Grand Funk Railroad music. I will have to say this group, who I have never heard of, is kick ass. I will have to check them out a little more. Hey I remember when this was a new song back around 1970 ish. One of my favorite GFR tunes. He plays it better than me for sho. Great video cat daddy.
Youngster, I Bought this album (Grand funk Coming Home for $4.00 and still have it) in the early 70's from a JCPENNEY when JCPenney sold furniture, stereos, car parts and tools... I'm 65 yrs and still drink whiskey like I did when I was 10... All or nothing brother.... Free your mind.... That young band is Badassery right there, I think they made the song theirs...
Its crazy, this guy with a full band channels some real warren haynes vibes and some serious jazz. However, as a trio its like watching black sabbath or cream. He is the SRV and Terry Reid of the millennial generation.
Devon, this is the 2nd time I watched this. It's not the just best GF cover. This the best cover performance I've ever seen, PERIOD. His Trio rocks. Now you gotta check out his Band. There's no better place to hear and see an original than his song "Virginia" live at World Cafe. It's a really great ride! Thanks for posting.
You're the first one I've seen that's reacted to this song Devon. You must have good taste in music...this song has been on my playlist for close to 2 years and I still listen to it several times a week. Love that solo, it still blows my mind every time! Thanks for the reaction!
Marcus is great and I love the emotion that comes with the vocals. Again I want to put in request for H.E.R. (Gabby Wilson) with Chris Stapleton CMT Awards "HOLD ON". The beautiful guitar she plays in this she designed herself. Recently released by Fender as the H.E.R. Stratocaster. If you're feeling like a little reggae try this H.E.R. with Skip Marley NAACP image awards "SLOW DOWN"
I'm surprised there isn't 87 covers of this doggone Grand Funk classic. I heard it for the first time when it played at the end of the baddass fkn movie Citizen Abing Law with Jerrard Bootler, ; ) - and it was the best song to end a movie since Morello's (Rage) "Wake Up" on the only good Matrix... the first one.
I saw Marcus at the blind Willie McTell festival in Thompson ga a few years ago! Think he has ties to the Marshall tucker bank thru family or something!!
When you say you 'study' a style, what do you mean by that? I did that with SRV - records, videos and tab books, but most everything else (especially with blues), I've just kind of picked up one or two bits by ear where something has stood out (I'm very much intermediate - played some blues jams, but never got further than that). Haven't heard a lot of Marcus, was surprised by how heavy that guitar sounded. Shredded it! Had him down as more of a soul player - I'll have to look at more of his catalogue! Great singer too. If you like pinched harmonics, I'm going to assume you're familiar with Rory Gallagher!
Hopefully you've seen Marcus' and Billy Strings Carter Series videos of them doing Merle Haggard's "Lonesome Fugitive" by now. Jesus wept at the sound of Marcus'Telecaster tone in that one, good lord it's so so good. You mentioned how heavy this is, and I agree. Especially for what he usually plays. Suff like "Goodbye Carolina" brings a lonely, sad feeling but this just quite simply kicks ass.
Good review , right to the point even if you didn't realize this was not his song. I see you do know & for the info Grand Funk did this in 1970.. You want something of Marcus like this here ya go... ua-cam.com/video/5vF42lgRTuU/v-deo.html Though i see you have done one one this it's not the same version as this . This was done at the same place & time as Sin's a Good Man's Brother & shows Marcus playing with the band & not the music vid that's out. As a player myself this is the one you need to see & hear. I don't expect you to re do what you have already done but this one is bad ass... How cool is it they are in a music store using the stores Vintage equipment , the tags still are on the guitars .
Not bad however, the performance of this song by Grand Funk Railroad is friggin’ EPIC. I have never found a live version but their remaster studio track is awesome.
Damn, marcus dug down deep and found his inner black sabbath with this one!
When others cover Mark Farner's music, it makes me appreciate brother Mark all the more as a singer and a songwriter, because it shows he touched a lot of people
Best Grand Funk cover I ever heard.
It's nice to hear young people get some Grand. Funk railroad.
If you haven't heard the original version of this song by Grand Funk Railroad .. give it a listen..
Marcus and the boys did them justice..
Tone dripping for days. Marcus King would make Mark Farner proud.
This was fantastic. I am a Grand Funk lover and this did them justice
I give a Thumbs Up, to all Marcus King Videos!

He is just simply phenomenal
He really is beyond his years, far far better than people realize. Go see him live and you’ll know just how good he is.
Looking forward to it
saw him last year. Easily of the greatest performances of any artist - any type of music. Crazy good

I will do my best to keep the blues alive.
That dude is a bona fide BAD ASS bro. He does Grand Funk and Mark Farner justice...This the type of music I grew up on in the '70's. Great upload...
He is a monster for sure

One of my favorite Grand Funk songs, and they nailed it. They did skip a verse but after that, I'll let it pass. I missed this one from Marcus. Thanks
Amen bro.. I was impressed with Marcus and the boys covering Grand Funk
Didn’t just skip a verse, but also fvcked up the one he sang. Either do it right or don’t do it.

Marcus is a bad man. Watch him do Wild Flowers and Wine live.. incredible.
I'll check it out
@@Devon_Rismay That's another live song from Marcus I listen to regularly...just him and the guitar...it's beautiful!

Like his genre style.

This was better than GFR.
He looks v young..
Early 20s
This is a Grand Funk railroad song. You could at least mention the original artists.
Thinking the same thing!
Maybe he didn't know.
