If I ever meet Arin, I will tell him that Sonic Heroes was exactly as bullshit as he thought, as someone who played it as a kid. And it was so therapeutic hearing him tear it apart

not really a parasocial relationship. They're both youtubers/animators meeting at an industry event for youtubers/animators. Yeah they're at different levels but I don't think it's all that terrible.
@@aravindkancherla8668 I think it's more of a boundary thing. The truth is no one would do this to a complete stranger but since Arin is a youtuber, people know more about him than he would know them. Arin is technically a complete stranger to James in that moment but because of the parasocial relationship, James felt like he had a connection that was worth a quick conversation. (a joke-insult) It's not really good but also not really all that bad.
What needs to be taken into account here is Arin's point of view. If James would think this is okay, what more would a bunch of random fans think? They would joke-insult Arin and honestly if a bunch of random people did that, it's going to be hard to tell if it's actually a joke or just a plain insult. This kind of thing is for friends but parasocial relationships make people assume they're friends enough with Arin to say something like that.
This is why the Goddamnit Ross thing got out of control, it was a friend thing that fans took too far and assumed was okay.
