I know this is an older video, but I feel fortunate I stumbled upon it. The portion showing how you plant was the best I've seen, the easiest to understand. Thank you!
I love my walking iris. Thanks so much for sharing. I've been a gardener for about 7 years and my iris has moved with me everywhere along with my queen of the night cactus. God bless thus amazing women for getting out there and doing what she loves to do! She sure knows her walking iris.
This was an excellent video. Very detailed, step-by-step. I appreciated seeing how the roots are cut and the detail of forming the hillock. Great camera work also. I also appreciated the repetition of the steps. Thank you! I feel prepared and am going out now to the task.
Seriously one of the better videos I've watched on how to "divide & conquer". I can totally relate to this video--sitting on the ground in the dirt, getting comfy (or as comfortable as one can be on dirt) and getting the job done. This is me! Chuckling here.
Excellent demonstration ❤ thank you 🙏 My spectacular irises went from having 20 blooms to only a few and I suppose this is what I need to do thank you for the advice demonstration and encouragement😊
I loved it ! Your instructions were very simple ,yet detailed enough for me to clearly see how you planted them. My neighbor gave me some and now I can plant them. Thank you ! God bless !🌝
Helpful video learned something new I've only separate mine 3times but I'm not good at keeping colors together learned can use old blinds to label garden
Great video ! Towards the end there was mention of it taking a few years to fill in. .... How about to bloom....this separation and replanting was after they had bloomed for that year?
Thank you so much for this! I've generally killed everything I've planted but I decided to try one last time when a neighbor offered some clippings. This video is so informative! Only thing I didnt hear is how often water? I live in the Houston area where its humid but HOT especially during summer. Thank you for any info
I am under duress from my wife. I have planted and worked many of the Iris, and they are doing well here in NW Indiana, but I realize I need to move some of them. It is now March 1, and it is starting to look like Spring. I have a bunch of nice plants that I would like to transplant from our south side to the garden in the back. Do you think that if I got a large enough shovel full (I am thinking of a LARGE mass to move, with a small plant in the middle) and moved it intact that it might bloom this Spring? Thank you for such a wonderful post, and thank you for sharing your knowledge of these plants
Sure is. I love my walking iris. So easy to care for. This lady knows hers for sure. I've been gardening for 7 years now and have never seen someone her age get down and dirty playing in the dirt. Lol. I love it! That's going to be me! I'm always out in the garden and now I've started dreaming about the way I want it set up too. Lol
Fantastic video! I started lifting and dividing iris clumps in the garden today, which is in mid to late summer but I had so much trouble digging out the first clump today. There was no way a garden fork would go into the soil. I had to hack with a mattock around the clump, hacking through many roots in the process, to create s small trench around the clump. Then I had to ask my husband to come out and dig it up with a shovel. He needed to use a lot of power to get it out and I've dumped the very heavy clump on a potting table until tomorrow. There was no way to break off clumps the way you did. I tried sawing off a tuber to separate it from the rest of the clump, with a bread knife, but it was too tough. I will try again tomorrow. More bad news: there are another four similar clumps to remove, divide and replant. You can see one of the clumps on my channel in the Shasta Daisies video at the start of the video, on the far right.Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the clumps as they are heavily entrenched in the soil? Also do you have any suggestions how to divide them if they do not break apart easily?
thank you for sharing. You remind me so much of my grandma-she had a beautiful garden..I know this is good advice! Can I replant now or wait until fall?
Great vid, i never grew iris b4. Lady gave me a big clump of them but they look NOTHING like these. Mine are thumb size pieces wih tiny roots. Idk if i even want to plant them now. Moved to a townhouse and have small space to plant.
i just bought my first home and a buddy gave me about 10 of these. Thanks to your video i know exctly what to do. great video. but did you say it will take a couple of years for them to bloom.
My irases need thinning out and I'm wondering if I follow your video now will they still bloom in the spring spring in Utah where I live comes around March 20
thanks for the video. I didn't trim any roots. I just dug them out from the backyard and transplanted them in the front yard. do I have to trim the top or is that optional? and can I put mulch around the irises to prevent weeds?
What if I simply want to move my iris plants from front yard to back - do I need to cut the leaves? I'd hate to take their flowers away just because I want them in a different spot around my house.
I have divided my Iris and have over 200 new plants - I can't plant them right away , how do I keep the roots from drying out until I plant them ? Thanks.
Cindy Koleski. send them to me.. lol no .. well not all of them.. i have a wine fridge. it gives u about 6 weeks to get in gear. ... just imigine i used to keep wine in the wine fridge..
This is the best iris divide and replant video I found. Thank you for sharing
The only thing more relaxing than digging in the dirt, is watching someone digging in the dirt. Thanks for this very informative video

A woman after my own heart. She sits in the dirt to garden and share her love! BRAVO & thank you. Much love to you. xoxo
Excellent walk-through, every minute well worth watching. Thanks!

Very Simple! Thank you for the education.
Nice Job! Very helpful!! QUESTION - Can Iris be separated and replanted in the fall? We live in Maryland and would like to split them this week end!
Yes, that's the best time.
i just bought my first home and a buddy gave me about 10 of these. Thanks to your video i know exctly what to do. great video. but did you say it will take a couple of years for them to bloom.

Thanks! Very helpful.
i noticed you didnt watered it after you planted them in the ground, is it fine?
Very nice presentation. Thank you ~♡~
Excellent tutorial thank you.
thanks for the video. I didn't trim any roots. I just dug them out from the backyard and transplanted them in the front yard. do I have to trim the top or is that optional? and can I put mulch around the irises to prevent weeds?
Trim the tops when you plant- the energy needs to go to the roots in the winter.
Mulching isn't good for iris; it will make them rot. They like being right at ground level, not buried.
Good explanation. However, I can't sit on the ground like you do.
I live in Northern VT.Should I add extra mulch to protect it from snow and frost etc?
Great Video !! Thank You So Much!
A good old real life video. :)
What if I simply want to move my iris plants from front yard to back - do I need to cut the leaves? I'd hate to take their flowers away just because I want them in a different spot around my house.
Is it best to replant them in the spring or later after blooming?
