Of course, removing the cards from view, especially in a game where banished cards are far from removed, was never gonna be feasible
The "solution" to a problem nobody was asking for that doesn't actually solve it. It doesn't even cut down on card text, "your banished card" is outright shorter than "card in your banishment"
I'm pretty sure you're only meant to use banishment when other locations are mentioned, like Deck or GY. So like, instead of "Add 1 of your banished cards, or 1 card in your GY, to your hand." The banish zone not only never had an official name, but no official location. Above the GY is where it's usually seen, but it can be on its side too. It never had a spot as far as paper is concerned.

it’s also interesting because magic went through exactly the same process with exile
I didn’t know there wasn’t an official zone for banished cards I just assumed it was right above the graveyard since that’s where every game/sim I’ve played had them.
Fun fact: Necrovalley specifies cards from the GY cannot be moved to a different place. Zones are notably places, so if Banishment becomes a places it doesn't need to specify that cards in the GY also cannot be banished.
Then again they could've from the start just specified "Cards cannot be moved out of the GY" via text similar to Exosister Stella and others.
It took 25 whole years for them to make a banish zone on the playmat
Phantom knights know the banishment very well
Could’ve called it the Shadow Realm. Missed opportunity that hurts to think about.
Since the pendulum zones? No, I think you mean the Extra Deck Link zones.
As a master duel player it never made sense why they didn’t have a banishment zone on tcg versions
I kinda liked the fact there was no banished zone, the card is just removed, it’s banished from the playmat. Giving it an actual zone reduces the meaning of banishment, as you say, like a second graveyard.
YuGiOh folks, welcome to exile, we were waiting for you all
You card has been sent to the graveyard's graveyard, graveyard.
