The best advice I have for someone who just started learning the thumbaround is to get your thumb placement consistent. Notice where your thumb is every time and experiment slightly with moving it up and down the pen with each try. This will help you nail the trick much more consistently before the muscle memory sets in.
Thank you. Thank you for describing this so well, taking it slowly, and overall just not being like other tutorials. This actually taught me in great detail how to do a thumbaround! Thank you!
*Practices 100 hrs then does it* Did it 10 times in a row, showed my mum, failed, tried 100 times, still failed, mum asks to practice before you show some one

I GURENTEE YOU THIS IS THE BEST TUTORIAL ON PEN SPINNING ON THE INTERNET!! i tried other tutorials making little to no progress on tricks like the sonic, but this one i mastered in a half hour! great work!
“It’s kind of like a snapping motion” Me: ok! me: *does a nice flippity-floppity-poppity-thumbaround-oooga-booga-360-kooky-gloopy-lil’ pop-hop.* Me: DID YOU SEE THAT MOMMY? Mom: *confused screaming*
For me the pen kept hitting my index finger after it went around, preventing the pen from going in-between the thumb and index. So, I found that extending my index finger as far out as possible and then doing the snapping motion really helped me get the trick consistently correct.
For beginners, i'm a beginner too but i have managed to get pretty decent at it. Some things that may help: I like to keep the lid on the pen as it adds weight so there is less chance for you to helicopter it across the room Put the pen by the bottom of the nail of your thumb. I held the pen at the end of my thumb so it wouldn't spin around it properly Start off with very little force, it is very easy to overjudge the weight and if you do it slow then you can catch the pen easier. Hope at least one of these helped someone
hey ive been trying this trick on and off for a few months and never really got it, but your video made it really easy to understand! its only been 15 minutes and I've already gotten it twice! thanks dude
While I was attempting to to this, I discovered that if you are more gentle with your middle finger, the pen will rotate on your thumb without it flying to the Star Wars galaxy. But you still have to be able to catch it.
tl;dr - I do what I do when I do what I do. I prefer "thorough" :P I understand that my videos in general tend to be longer than what's exactly necessary (my original TA tutorial was between 4-5 minutes after all); however, when I personally go on UA-cam to look at any sort of tutorial/knowledge, I always want more, and I assume others do too (though my video length isn't intentional, more on that later). I understand that 13.5 minutes can be boring to some, but if you'd like, there is a playback speed controller on UA-cam that makes the video play faster. Additionally, editing, rendering, and uploading these videos isn't exactly a piece of cake at this quality and length either, so believe me, I've filmed and refilmed certain videos to make them shorter (I'm editing a Charge remastered video and the initial shot was 17 minutes...). I also don't use a script at all. I just sit down, film the tutorial and say whatever it is I think needs to be said (this contributes to length). Scripts, though they can give detailed yet concise/compact tutorials, always trip me up oddly, so I don't use them. I appreciate the feedback though, I'm definitely working on making videos equally as efficient at teaching while being shorter in length; I repeat everything in the tutorial at least 3 times, so that also accounts for what seems to be unnecessary length.
I don't like this comment, it almost sounds disrespectful. Ktrinh spent his time making an in depth guide for one of the most basic pen tricks, and it is bloody well done in an average time of 13 minutes. It really goes to show the tremendous quality and effort he puts into this video. If you really wanted to get a short video, just watch something else, spend less time whinging and bitching and at least appreciate this well made video. That being said I should rant less, but I just want to show some support from Ktrinh.
I'm not saying it's bad. Nor do I dislike it. I understand perfectly the effort put into it. I appreciate the fact that he's taking the time to remaster his tutorials, but coming from a spinner who's mastered the ThumbAround, I'm simply saying that for me, and most spinners, 13 minutes is excessive. I understand that 13 minutes is perfectly reasonable for beginners, who are just learning the ThumbAround, or any of the four (five+charge reverse?) fundamentals, they can seem difficult. I'm not being disrespectful.
Mum: Sonny Jim, what did you learn at school today? Me: I learnt how to do the Thumbaround(TA) Finger trick aka throw your pen to the other side of the world.
Honestly thanks bro. I just got started with this pen spinning stuff. And I’ve always wanted to do the thumb spin thing and I couldn’t do it bcs all the other vids don’t explain as much. Great vid. You earned a sub bro!!
Thanks, it's been 4 days since I started training with your video, and I can already do it one out of two times. I expect to perfect it next week. I have a 90 degree thumb as well, and it seems to help a lot for a beginner.
Yeah so, it took some time. Now I'm able to do it about every time I try, but it tends to stop mid spin and I have to tilt my hand a bit - so it falls down and I can grab it. Good luck to all.
For starters leave the pen top aside and do it, once you removed the top hold the pen in writing position then support the pen using thumb and middle finger then place index finger on top of the pen. It will look like you hold the pen with 3 sides (2 sides along the width and index finger on the length of the pen). In this position slowly move your thumb upwards to your index finger you can feel some pressure building up then unlock your index finger from the top of the pen you can see the result, if not try again. I did it in this way, once you get a hang of it you can stop using your index finger. (Sorry for the English)
TIPS! 1. Since we all know that the pen is supposed to spin around the thumb record yourself doing it in slow mo and watch it to see what ur doing wrong. Try to fix it 2. GENTLY push the pen, as a beginner I got frustrated a lot and it started spinning to Narnia so GENTLY only a little bit of oomf 3. Make sure the pointer finger is completely out of way of the spinning pen. But make sure it comes back down when it’s supposed to Hopes this helps

After an hour of practice I can proudly say that I have acquire this new skill, the success rate currently I'll say is 70 %. I just saw someone in discord chat talking about it so I decided to give it a try and here I am. I appreciate it @KTrinh93.
For those of you that's wondering if why pen is flying 98% of the time even if you tried spinning it gently or a bid stronger is because of your thumb. When you push with middle finger, notice your thumb moves as well in between pushing of it and the release of the index finger. Try to relax the thumb and make it still as much as possible. EDIT: It is the same mistake for people who used to move the lower chopstick (They aren't supposed to move unlike the upper stick)
I've been practicing this for about 3 days now. The hardest part for me has been keeping my thumb still when i try to push the pen with my middle finger. Occasionally I'll get it to work a few times and I think I've finally figured it out but then I lose the rhythm and have to go back to square one.
it’s 2am and i’ve been doing this for only 5 minutes and i’ve been laughing so much because i keep spinning no to hard and it’s too funny for my sleep deprived brain
took me an hour to get the hang of it . key point : place the middle finger in the gravity point. this is essential. it helps you balance the pen and make it easier to catch it after the twirl. if you keep missing the gravity point , put a mark in the pen . once you master it , you dont need to mark up the gravity point , but until you get used to it , it would be easier and you dont need a double joint thumb either , im doing the thumbround without even bending my thumb a little. its easy guys

IT WORKED, my tip is to press it just enough where it rotates pretty slow but wraps around your finger, giving you enough time to point your index finger. Then just practice

Bro Your The Most Great and Funny Teacher that i meat, i just learned thumb around at 8:45 it was so fun and relaxing, im watching this at 7:56PM and i was exited to show it to my classmates🥰
i am meft handed and i find every penspinning trick extra super mega hard + i have the non bending thumb and long fingers so this is hell for me i wanted to abandon this but i am so determined on learning if you have any small tips please shower me with them
i am also left handed and non bending thumb but i can do the thumbaround with the reverse
Hinted
I don't know if you're able to do this but you can mirror the video so it matches up to your hand
cannot mirror this video when your thumb does not bend. for the dude the pen spins around the bend spot, for me it kinda does as well but much more inconsistently since finger is not bent.
I have a non bending too
Is that meow handed? lol they are called paws, silly!
(Yes, ik you mean left 😝😝😝)
My finger hurts after a few attempts
Skip the bone face talking. Watch 3:56 and thank me L8er
