He scares me. He doesn't have the charm of a Bundy or Dahmer, or the obvious hideousness of a Gacy or the intelligence of a Kemper. He's just so pathetically average and sad and yet he did more evil and got away with it for longer than all them. Terrifying.

Often times I can't handle true crime content, but the way Kris presents all these women is so humanizing and makes me wonder how many times their killer's story has been told with barely a mention to them. Here we see their photos, hear their names, and each is given her identity back.
Thank you for the work you do Kris, I hope you know how important this kind of content is. You're making sure these women aren't forgotten and I often feel that we as the audience are sitting in witness together, memorializing them as they deserve.

Kris you did an AMAZING job on this! Trying not to dox myself, I grew up literally in his abduction grounds. When I say LITERALLY, the Red Lion hotel (now the Double Tree at that location) is on the corner of 188th and Pacific Hwy, the nearest intersection to where I grew up. He went to the same High School as me, and at the SAME TIME as my future Uncle. HE USED TO WALK HIS DOG AROUND MY SOCCER FIELD DURING PRACTICE. When i was growing up, my mom was (ahead of her time) obsessed with serial killers, religiously read Anne Rule, and the Green River Killer freaked her out, understandably. I was born in the 80s, and he wasn't arrested until I was in High School.
Excellent job, I screamed SEVERAL times during this because the locations you named were places I frequented ALL. THE. TIME. Wild.....

I spent 15 years of my life in this area of Washington and still consider it home to this day. All of these locations, Auburn, Black Diamond, Kent, Tacoma, Enumclaw and Pac Highway were my stomping ground as a teenager. The strange thing is, growing up in these areas seemed extremely safe at the time. I remember hearing of Gary Ridgway all throughout my childhood. He was the demon of the area that not many locals like to talk about. It goes to show that monsters like this often lurk in the most unexpected places and look like the most unassuming folks you see. Its always eerie to hear stories like this about places you are familiar with, but also a healthy reminder to always have your guard slightly up no matter where you are.

Hey Kris! Thanks for covering this case.
When I was in college (UNF in Jax, FL) my professor for a DOPE class called “Serial Killers in Florida” or something like that was an ex-FBI agent who worked on this case towards the end!
Her name is Ellen (can’t remember her last name right now) and she retired a few years after that class, then became the Mayor of her town. 😂
We didn’t hear *too* much about it from her, since she wanted to focus on our state, but she did say that it was almost a cold case by the time she was assigned to it, but the details and victims found always stayed with her…

I think the scariest thing about Gary Ridgeway is how normal he comes across!!! 😨 I mean keeping photos and toys of his son in his truck to calm women down is just wild to me and terrifying. It's mind blowing that killers like him, the BTK and Happy Face Killer are/were all fathers with double lives!!! 😳
I think it really needs to be put out there that Serial Killers generally look normal and not what is portrayed in Horror Movies. They don't necessarily stand out really or scream danger. I think the only killer from a Horror Movie that came across as realistic was John Cramer (Jigsaw) from the Saw Series.

0:02 I once went on a few "play" dates with a lesbian in Seattle. I lived in Maryland at the time and she was covering The March On Washington for The Seattle Gay News. Later, after I moved to Seattle, I saw her a few times for some tarot card readings. I had no idea she had been insistent that the King County Sheriff Department start taking the disappearances and deaths of sex workers more seriously. My friend became a thorn in the side of the police departments that were doing a rather half-assed job in trying to find this sick bastard, a.k.a. The Green River Killer.
Her photography helped the forensics departments immensely. R. I. P., C.A.H.

Ironically, his coworkers were aware he'd been questioned a couple times about the murders, and called him Green River Gary kind've as a joke, kind've trolling him a bit bc while they thought he was okay, they also thought he was a little inept bc he was the guy who would mess up with the wrong paint color so they'd have to repaint a truck etc. Imagine when the cops show up to arrest him at work and realizing the guy you thought was kind've an idiot has literally been epic-level trolling you for over a decade bc he really WAS the Green River killer.

I call him Green River Gary because of that! He does have a below average IQ and I imagine his slowness and ineptitude was hard for him to deal with and probably contributed to his rage. Yet at the same time he got away with killing dozens of women for 20 years. It's bizarre and very scary.

I lived in Tacoma from 1980 to 1984.. It was scary times. When I was about 14 a friend and I took the bus to the mall, when we went to catch the bus to go home we somehow got on the wrong bus & ended up in downtown Seattle. We scared our parent to death because we were stuck on the bus for over an hour and couldn’t call to tell them we got on the wrong bus. When we finally were let off the bus we called our parents right away, but it took my mom an hour to get to us. We were in a sketchy part of the city and just had to hang around the phone booth under the street light until she got there. We didn’t dare move from where we were otherwise my mom wouldn’t be able to find us.. remember, there were no cell phones back then… the darker it got the more terrified we were.
