    WOW 😂😂 you guys are hilarious.
    100% great job with moving the excavator. You will have so much fun with the digger .
    Is it possible to ad a pulley block onto the ramps then run the winch rope through the pulley block and back to the winch and it will half the load on you to winch the ramps up .

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  Рік тому +1

      Definitely a good idea. I was planning on adding winches so I could operate the ramps from the control station. My welding skills are zero at the moment so my plan is to call in a welder and refit the front posts with snatch blocks and maybe even pulleys - all depends on how I can get the geometry to work out. One thing is certain, the current design is no good. Thanks so much for stopping by!

    I agree with Melodi, that was nail-bitting terrifying. I was holding my breath slightly just watching the video…😅
    Snicker, the SS SKETCH is a good name for the barge but maybe your family will be able to come up with something else.

      This one was a bit sketchy... I was nervous that we would all end up in the lake - it was dark on the other side and things weren't exactly stable on the barge. Soooo grateful we made it there safe and sound 😉

  • @loggerjohn01
    @loggerjohn01 Рік тому +1

    That was a little nerve-racking. I was ready to jump off the barge myself lol. I was even yelling at Ryan to stop too! Well, at least it was pretty calm. I think I would just buy the excavator so I wouldn't have to take it back across. LOL. That old cabin would make a good big bonfire some night. Thanks for sharing.

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  Рік тому

      Okay!! You make us both laugh like crazy!! And isn't it a good idea to just get a machine?? We actually are considering WHAT to buy right now - Ryan is compact track loader.. what are your thoughts John?

    • @loggerjohn01
      @loggerjohn01 Рік тому +1

      @@mywildholm I think a 4x4 compact tractor with a loader, would be more useful than having a excavator. They are so versatile. I would go with a Kubota. Plus you can get so many attachments for them including a backhoe. The excavator is great for the heavy work in the beginning, but once that part of the work is over then maybe a tractor. Take care

      I'd say that many times I am, until it doesn't make sense to be... remembering that we have a history together of accidents and mistakes... There are even more dangerous aspects of this journey out here. So we do have to be doubly aware and cautious. We are a team and there are times when one or the other hasn't been there to offer another viewpoint or a second set of eyes and it's turned out pretty badly for each of us. We 'get' each other and it works really well 😆 Thank you for watching 💚

    Such a good plan to do a small base before deciding on the ultimate location for your house. Giving time to learn the island and find the best spot.

    Go to the Highest part of the island that is what I would do !!! Or Close to this one cabin as it is the area that I think is best !!! But it is up to you to decide upon now !!! I like this area where this older cabin is and coming right down to it sandy beach and the cabin has plenty of room for things that you hath brought onto the island and it would be a good Housing area for those items!!! Also shelter for you both in a storm !!!

      Oh my thank you! See... I wasn't quite as brave with this one was I? I was feeling worried because of that silly video I watched... but yay!!! We made it. You are right... I sure have 'freedom' with the fashion statements for sure. I looked at some of the footage the other day and started laughing. I mean, there are some wild outfits in the bunch. You'll see what I mean soon. The thing is, I have to really cover up with those flies around they are fierce! 💜

      @@mywildholm Melodi, you were very brave! You faced a situation that really petrified you head on. You communicated with Ryan what needed to be done and got on that barge! 👍👍👍. At the end of the day, you both succeeded in what you set out to do! Ryan did a great job figuring put how to operate the little backhoe. I'll be looking forward to seeing the outfits 😄. The flies are horrible here in Maine too. I keep fly spray in the bathroom, that way after someone takes a shower, it can go on as part of the morning routine 😂🤣. Have a great day

    How's she goin'? Well that was a scary trip out to the island eh!!! The pucker factor was pretty high there I'd say. Looks like you got the excavator unloaded OK and you're well on your way to getting started on building your 'Wild Holm"!! Take care!!!

      Hahaha! You're right about that! I was the one that was nervous because of the video I had watched. Thank you for watching - we love that you're watching us build our 'Wild Holm'!!

    I think Im in favor of the new spot you chose for the tiny house. However, you showed in an earlier video a shot of the island that had hills. I think a home on the hill would give you some awesome views. And if you stored your water tank up on the hill, you would have better gravity fed water pressure as well. Just Sayin'

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  Рік тому +1

      We will be building a couple of cabins - one of my twin sons is coming this summer to choose a spot... Ryan wanted to be up on a hill... I wanted close to water - you definitely have some good points... We haven't even been to 5% of the island yet so we have lots of time to explore

    With the barge being inherently bow heavy and the upwards taper sacrificing floatation, you’re going to have to work towards getting more freight weight or permanent ballast shifted aft.

    • @mywildholm
      @mywildholm  2 місяці тому +1

      Exactly, we are constantly aware of the pitch of the barge. The bow actually lifts a little if we reel in the ramps all the way to near vertical... but who has time to do that? Thanks for watching! -Ryan.

      @markhuston9250 2 місяці тому +1

      @@mywildholm Thx Ryan. Understood re ramps - they sure put a lot of leverage on the CG of the vessel. Be safe.
