Brilliant orla. Delighted you got few bits to celebrate your birthday. If you didn’t do it when could you. Great showing around marks sparks. The tins are beautiful. My mother passed away be 3 years in December and she loved carrot cake. Bit of a tear came to me. Appreciate everything you have done and doing on your channel.
    I’d say Lidl next one.
    Take care 💚

I'd have to have my son go with me to that store to drag me out! You have some great jarred items. Anything in those kind of jars round here is usually very costly. Yes, I do have a thing for jars.

Happy birthday. How does it feel to be 39?
It just amazes me how expensive food has gotten. I have the time and ability to chase sales and go to drive to stores that are reasonable.
What makes me crazy is that in Las Vegas prepared foods are crazy expensive. Your prices for ready made meals are relatively a huge bargain. I cook for my hubby and I but entertain a lot. So when it is just us I always make enough for leftovers the next day.
It would be awesome to buy ready made at your prices.
I made stuffed bells peppers last night. I made 4. All in it was maybe $12 including mashed potatoes and carrots. So about $3 a serving. A pepper and mash would be easily $7.99 to buy pre made
    With no carrots.
M and S is less than most of our regular stores and much nicer.
Now this might get me negative comments, but here goes. Other than iconic Christmas treats, I make all my Christmas baking and give a lot away. I am self taught and have the luxury of buying the right tools. I also have the time right now.
Here are some crazy examples right now on how much pre made is here versus how cheap it is to make your own
Costco which is a big box store has a cranberry walnut round bread. It is about a pound. They charge $11.99 per loaf.
I just made four loaves of the same. The walnuts were $3.99 and the cranberries were $4.99. The yeast and flour were about $4. So call it $13 for four loaves. So basically the extra 3 loaves cost me about $.33 each.
Your beautiful bread and pastry would make buying stuff reasonable. But prices here are insane for fancy chocolates and bread.
Turtles which are nuts topped with Carmel and chocolate go for $2.50 in the store on the cheaper side. I can make 6 dozen for about $20. So store bought is about $30 for a dozen. Mine cost about $3.40 a dozen.
I don’t mind buying stuff as a treat. Your pastries at M & S were dear but looked great. That price would be on the low side here. A coffee and a pastry of that kind would be $10 or more at a coffee house here.
You are a smart shopper and shop the sales. And go to different stores. What is sad here is that poorer neighborhoods where people either don’t have transportation or time to shop are usually only served by small very expensive grocery stores. Plus they have bad quality fruit and veg and meat.
So, people eat a lot of high carb and low protein food.
I guess what I am trying to say is how fortunate we both really are. We have the desire and the ability to make do at a much higher standard than most people. Your daughters are lucky because you have taught them how to shop and cook and instilled healthy eating habits in them.
Sorry for the rant but I just watched two UA-cam videos. One was a lady who could only spend about $2 a day for food and one was a nut bag with 11 kids who was flexing about spending $3,000 a week to feed them. Yes, $3,000 a week or $12,000 or so a month. Or roughly $36 a day per person including her and her husband. That is so insane and it is mostly junk food. Plus she buys take in and other food on top of that.

I agree. I try to make as much of my own food as I can. Not only is it less expensive but you know exactly what goes into it! Unfortunately I am not much of a baker but aside from bread I don’t eat many baked goods. I make my own soups etc. my soups involve very few steps - it always looks lovely when chefs are making deep flavoured soups by roasting ingredients but honestly I neither have the patience or the time for that! So my soups are very simple!
