It is July19th and it is still raining here in Houston, so proud of my first time harvest of yukon gold, which was probably half a box you have there, but I did it!!!!! I got beautiful tomatoes until mid June, and the rain just ruined them all, squash bug, still mad at them!!! I am beginning to believe the green house is going to be the only way I will ever get tomatoes. Hard to garden in a swamp! Envy your potato harvest, that is gardener's gold right there!!! Blessings to you and your family!!!

It's like all the rain that is needed on the western side of the rockies came to East Texas instead! God has a wicked sense of humour.

I know what you mean Pete about the rain. Here in Fl it's been raining everyday the past 3-4 days and that's definitely not good on the peppers and tomatoes because I have them in big planters and they're drenched. So today I'm gonna have to cover everything because it's supposed to rain later this afternoon. That's the problem in Fl and trying to grow thing's. It can rain every afternoon in the summer. Your potatoes did great. You don't have to apologize for taking a break. Everyone goes on a vacation every so often.

No need to apologize for taking a hiatus Pete, everyone needs a break and after all you are retired. I hear you on the rain, my goodness enough is enough we have had 10" in 7 days here in South Montgomery county. I harvested about 35 pounds of the red potatoes last weekend from one bed was very pleased, I did not know that you could consume the leaves as well will have to try that as they made it to the compost pile. Glad to see the chicks are coming along, all the best David.

Last year I grew Tomatoes under a White Shade Cloth. in June. When it got hot. They never wilted during the heat of the day. Where in years past. They would. Sprayed with Hydrogen peroxide, and Sulfur Fungicide to control diseases. It was the first year. We had tomatoes until the end of Sept.

We planted some seed potatoes and right after that received 6" of rain. My potatoes never even broke ground. My only guess is that it was too much water and they rotted in the ground. I'm hoping to have better luck next year. Your potatoes look awesome.

This update was really helpful to me. I just moved to East TX from a dry area and did not know what to expect. My sweet potato slips are barely hanging in there, but I did plant them in a raised bed. I planted regular potatoes in large pots and they are sitting on pallets, so they should be ok once the rain slows down. They are looking a bit yellow, but now I understand why.
I just got my chicken coop yesterday, and my chicks will arrive next week. I saw another old video of yours that explains why you do not free range your chickens, and I will take special care if I decide to create free-range spaces for them.

Idk if yours are the same variety as the red potatoes in the store, but I'm guessing all red varieties similar? I could be wrong. How are you going to store your potatoes? I grew potatoes for the 1st time this year in old water troughs and the outcome was wonderful. I will give this another try. Yes we East Texans have had more than our fair share of rain this spring and so many failed in ground gardens. Found your channel after after the 2nd unprecedented East Texas Snow event.
