Subgroups And Auxiliaries

In this quicktips video I review the fundamentals of subgroups and auxiliaries and it's implementation on the Cantar X3 & Cantar Mini. In addition we explore its routing possibilities and some sample workflows to show some useful possibilities in narrative and other production dialogue recording capture workflows.

SF TV Serial is in front of me.Helmet's and zero gravity scenes- a lot.Actors need to hear each other-in ear (mix minus)setup's,...Sub+automix options are great tools in this scenario.Cheers.

Ive had this feature on one of my X3s for a year now and am still unsure of when I would need it. Everything including mix minuses have been achieved by outmaps with post fade. The automix of the subgroup is a nice trick, but besides that, I am failing to see what else it is good for. Thanks for the video either way!

The important difference to distinguish is that out-maps only allow you to attenuate inputs, tracks or post fade tracks as one whole group and all of your post fade track sends are always tied to one or both of your master mix busses L/R, whereas each of your available subgroups is a post fade send independent of your master mix bus that can be sent to any output and or to one of the two additional mix busses included (AX1/AX2) This allows the sound mixer to achieve up to two additional alternate and simultaneous mixes with full post fade control. I’ve used this workflow to create custom talent IEM mixes. This would only be achievable with subgroups.
