What I love about this song is how, in the beginning, she's doing the shadow answer, but at the middle a wind instrument starts to answer in cannon and at the end she's the one answering the flute, showing a crescenting level of hallucination.
Peters has always been my favorite soprano, (the voice perfectly balanced between Sutherland's murky moans and Sill's shrill whistles, even though they may have been greater singers in general), but consider how young she is here and relatively unpracticed, compared to most famous sopranos who attain fame later in life.
Ms Peters was not a natural actress, but vocally she was of the very top rank. When as good a judge as Rudolph Bing, following one extended audition, engages her as an inexperienced singer of just 20 years old to sing the Queen of the Night role at the Met, you know her voice had to be something truly special. From recordings like this, you can easily appreciate the excellent technique, and natural coloratura. What is less evident is the squillo that enabled her to be readily heard over the orchestra in all corners of huge halls like the Met.
I wast looking for this masterpiece, OMG I love this aria with Roberta I can hear every single note.
My favorite soprano, Roberta hit the high notes with ease. Beautiful voice excellent coloratura!!❤❤
Once again, the late Ms. Peters displays her formidable vocal skills.

Peters was one of the greatest and her staccatti were the best.
she was wonderful as a Coloratura, I saw her many times in the opera house long ago and she lasted well also.
Remarkable singing! Great coloratura technique. Totally entrancing!

Sills never whistled. Sutherland and Sills were so much better than Peters.

Salute! Wonderful!
Masterpiece!
salute! Magnificent!
magnifica!!!
Clean accurate coloratura. And she was a pretty young woman. It's a moronic aria, but fun to sing.
A singer had better have a near-perfect technique to sing this aria, or any aria by Meyerbeer. Roberta Peters pulls this off with ease.
It’s much prettier in French haha
Never heard of her. Now I know why
Beautiful
