Executing Excellence: A Chicago Park District Gymnast Story

Meet DarLynn Meaders! She's a Level 9 gymnast that trains at Calumet Park's gymnastics program with her coach Daryl Harden.
The tenacity, commitment and dedication of this young athlete is shared by her family and peers that join her on the mat for training and/or cheer her on during competitions. DarLynn stands tall as an example of the young women that strive for excellence and train for perfection. She is a proud park kid that found passion in the sport of gymnastics and guidance from our trained professionals.
Congrats to DarLynn for the talent that has catapulted her into the limelight.
Gymnastics in the Parks
• Gymnastics enrollment in Chicago Park District's gymnastics centers reached 9,500 athletes in 2023.
• The program has won numerous competitions in 2023 including all Team levels at the Xcel State meet (Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond). We also have 23 State Champions, and 5 Regional Champions which include Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
• The Park District has a National Champion on the Rings (Jeremy Richard, Harrison Park) as well as our first ever level 10 Girls National Qualifier (LuLu Ton-That, Peterson Park).
• We have expanded and added a gymnastics center at Harris Park.
• Spring registration opens for the 10 gymnastics centers citywide on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 12 p.m. (noon).

Girls P.L.A.Y. initiative
• In 2023, total female programming enrollment is 167,886.
• In 2023, Girls P.L.A.Y. hosted over 35 events/programs that were attended by nearly 2,000 young girls.
