You’re a gnarly dude koa. Glad you’re okay. Crazy you can pack 50 bigger pipe waves and you get clipped by a wave when and where you would never expect it. Always gotta be careful 🙏🏽 T.I.L.
Yea man, helmets have become super popular over the last 2-3 years at pipe. Well maybe not super popular, but there are def a lot more of them, at least when compared to how many we used to see out there. Some of these dudes probably think their photos and drone shots would look lame with a helmet on or that they would be perceived as a pussy. Either way, I can guarantee you Koa will be wearing a helmet out there from now on. If he doesn't, he is a complete dumbshit.
@@PlayingOutsideSomewherewearing a helmet could be more hurtful than helpful tho, covers your ears which blocks your senses and equilibrium which could make you fall more and risk injury even more
@@shane4794depends. If you regularly surf in cold water (admittedly, not an issue in Hawaii) wearing ear plugs (or a hood if it's cold enough) is pretty important to avoid surfer's ear, so covering ears is annoying but common. Good to hear you’re ok. Pipeline has been taking out a lot of people this winter. Seeing Kai Lenny’s broken helmet from his wipeout was crazy. Who knows what would’ve happened to him without it.
Amazing how attentive the lifeguards are and how they knew you were cooked even on a wave you would normally be chill with. Hope you're doing good my man!

Shane , Gaths do not block your ears, or affect equilibrium. They do increase drag.
