6 years ago today (popped up on my Facebook memories because I couldn't NOT post about it that night)... still one of the hottest things I've ever seen. Definitely hottest moment in DWTS history.
You know as a former Latin/Ballroom dancer myself. I got to give props to Jana and Gleb for his teaching because I actually couldn't tell who the professional dancer was, and I can normally spot it in an instant. It wasn't until the aerial that I knew it was Gleb. Those moves can be dangerous an you don't want someone new to dancing throwing you around like that. That can lead to major injuries an you being unable to dance for a while. Id give this a perfect score too.
It's a bit more contemporary than a traditional tango, but there were enough steps in the routine to make it a tango than a different dance. Remember, they also have to keep to the cadence of the song (which you'd definitely be right about--it just doesn't really sound tango-esque), and the wider latin dance night theme. I loved the routine, and the steamy twist. They're not pros, and they're not rated as such, so I think that taking such liberties can be fun and entertaining. If you're watching DWTS to see ballroom dances the way they're traditionally supposed to be performed with song choices to match, you're not exactly in the right spot. Sometimes the show nails songs and choreo, but there are a lot of things that wouldn't jive in professional competition.
