    I had to be heimlich’ed while eating spaghetti. I was at my friend’s house and she offered me dinner, (she and her family had eaten); we’re talking and I’m chewing..and I thought…swallowing. All of a the sudden I realize the food is not going down, and she asked me if I was OK? And I tried to shake it off and say yeah I’m ok.. trying to sip water and stretch my neck to get this food to go down and by the way, you don’t feel like you have a throat full of food, it’s just you are suddenly aware that you have no swallow reflex. She asked me a few more times if I was OK, and her husband who was a police officer had been listening to us and realized something was wrong because I wasn’t answering. He grabbed me so quickly and started the Heimlich, and after about five compressions (felt like forever) out came so much spaghetti. He absolutely saved my life 🙏🏻

    My mother saved my father’s life by doing the Heimlich maneuver. And dad was in a wheelchair so it was especially hard. Go mom!

    I'm a teacher and I've had to do the Heimlich 2 times. Other teachers at school have also had to do it. It's so important to know exactly how to do it. You really are saving a life. I'm sure that person is so thankful he was there and knew what to do. Thanks for sharing!

    I was a substitute teacher and a young teen was chocking on a hard candy and I grabbed him the Heimlich maneuver from behind and that candy flew so far out of his mouth!! I will never forget that feeling.

    I had a near death experience when choking on food, my spirit left my body & watched the whole scene from above, & was saved by being heimliched. Life changing experience 15 years ago. God bless your husband. Give him a BIG hug & kiss with gratitude from me. Superhero Henry. He gets double desert tonight.

    Great job! I was a volunteer EMT for 10 years in our old home town, a long, long time ago , when our kids were young (I actually took the course because of being a Mom to little ones)....so I have used the Heimlick successfully many times. I used it on my cousin at a wedding reception, also at a restaurant, I've used it on our kids when they were young, I've used it on myself against the back of a chair more than once, and my husband has used it on me, too. I cannot emphasize enough for EVERYONE to take the Red Cross classes to learn CPR and the Heimlich! You never know when you may need to use it, and you may need to save the life of someone you love!

    Good job Eagle Scout! 3 of my boys and 1 of my daughters are currently in scouting. Last summer I was a counselor for 3rd graders at church camp. My daughter and her best friend, both scouts, were jr counselors. I choked on a whole grape and Linley the friend, 15 years old moved to help me and perform the Heimlich. None of the other adults in the room knew what to do. She’s an Eagle Scout now and my daughter is not far behind. Choking is a terrifying experience. I’m so thankful she knew how to help. Also, cut grapes for little kids!

    I did this to my mother soooo many times. She choked a lot due to having a stroke and is the most terrifying experience every single time. But sharing this story is so amazing to reminds us that we find angels everywhere if you are spiritual and if not is a learning Lesson to teach our kids on basics survival tools. Thank you 🙏🏼

    Just be aware that if a person is truly choking, they cannot talk. Watching behavior is the best way to tell what is happening.

    • @MaryAnns_Lights
      @MaryAnns_Lights Рік тому

      Yes. I don't know if Jenna understands that. She made the comment, "many would be embarrassed and get up and leave or go to the bathroom". She said you need to say, "I'm choking!". If you're truly choking, you aren't going to get up and leave! You can't breathe, speak, swallow or cough. I choked once when I was younger....maybe it was in my windpipe rather than my throat since I couldn't breathe. It's a very frightening experience.

    If you're truly choking, you aren't able to say anything...it requires air to make sound and you aren't getting any air. A choking person is silent. You can also use this info to calm someone who feels like they're choking but is still able to make sounds.

      You can actually have a partial blockage of air and still speak. This situation is dangerous as well.

    My husband saved my life today. I laughed really hard while I had food in my mouth and when I gasped for air from laughing all of the food went to my throat and got stuck, my husband heimliched me and it worked on the 2nd compression. I have never been so scared in my life. I don’t ever want to eat again.

    I had breakfast with Dr. Heimlich in my late 20s and he hit on me!! and he was quite a bit older. Funny thing was not long before I had been sick in bed watching him do a demo on a show with a woman in a bikini (it was when he first came out with it) so I recognized him but couldn't remember why.
