    Love the pure sounds you get out of plonk, particularly the woody FM sounds. Can't wait to get hold of one and sync a pattern to my analog Rytm kick.

    A lot of menus but it's not too complicated. I bought it for bass sounds. I really like it its one of rare modules I am 100% sure I need in rack.

    anyway to change the sensitivity of that endless toggle knob ? seems to have to turn it a loooot to get slight changes. (I hate endless knobs)

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 7 років тому

      Hey Sebastien! At this point no, but if you assign a parameter to the X or Y knobs, you can set the depth of modulation to get the kind of responsiveness you want.

    • @Syncopator
      @Syncopator 7 років тому +5

      The other problem I have with endless encoders is if they're mechanical and not optical, even if they're gold plated the plating wears off in record time and it oxidizes at which point the debounce logic doesn't seem to work and you get jitter where you turn it one direction and it goes the other. The Korg synths really have this problem in spades-- I have two elecribes and a keyboard and all three of the data knobs started to jitter horribly after about 6 months, making live play next to impossible. Plonk looks awesome, but I'm fed up with flaky encoders.

      @@Syncopator I'm with you on that .... Hopefully it can de replaced with optical one without too much hassle ... if you ever find one with correct measurements for this module ... please share

    Very strong possibility it'll be my next module buy! Chimera may have to wait a bit longer!? Also have Elements, Technics wsa1r and AAS string studio---all use similar synthesis. Also related Karplus strong from my Doepfer A188-2, Karp and Rainmaker.

    I'm building up my first eurorack case and just got the Plonk. It's really nice, I just have to work out the best way I can incorporate it into my system. Grids for trigger and maybe Voltage Block for modulation and preset stepping? I'd like to know how other people are using their Plonk

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 6 років тому +1

      Yeah that sounds like a good way to use it! Depending on what you have assigned to the X, Y, and Mod inputs you might want to adjust the modulation depth. For some things you might want Full range, while on others you might only want Low.

    Not sure if this channel is being monitored, but can Plonk "kits" be created with 4 different random presets that have been saved?

  • @el_dani

    it appears to be an amazing sound module, also with great performance inputs, but the parameter tweaking until you get your sound seems to be a pain in the ass (with the only encoder.. it looks to be 10 times worse then tweaking an Elektron)

    This may be a novice question, but can you individually route, let’s say, 4 different sounds from plonk into individual inputs on a VCA?

    I got my warranty replacement Plonk yesterday - great service Intellijel, thanks - but many sounds are "default".
    Where can I find the factory sounds?

      The factory sounds are all available through Lazer Mammoth. This video walks you through how to manage your presets: ua-cam.com/video/qOmJ6XPqTpU/v-deo.html

    Could you substitute the Shifty for the Mutamix and be able to achieve similar results?

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 6 років тому +1

      Do you mean for preset stepping? Kind of. I haven't tried this yet, but if you took one of Shifty's CV and Gate outputs to Plonk's Mod and Trig inputs. Shifty would sample whatever value was at the input and pass that on to Plonk along with a gate to trigger it. If Shifty was fed something like a Ramp LFO in theory you could step through a repeating sequence of Presets. I think I'll have to try this sometime...

    If someone doesn't have a Mutamix, what is the way to step through the kits?

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 3 роки тому

      You can do this with literally any step sequencer or voltage source. It's demonstrated in a few other Intellijel videos, but this video walks though Preset Stepping with Steppy: ua-cam.com/video/EIhepLatoOg/v-deo.html

    Can this thing create a chronosynclastic infindebulum ?

  • @OctavianTech
    @OctavianTech 7 років тому +1

    Might just be me missing something about Mutamix, but why did you decide to use Mutamix to step between Plonk presets and use Metropolis as a clock, rather than just use Metropolis to advance the presets? In other words, why did you need to use Mutamix?

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 7 років тому +1

      Metropolis works great for stepping through Plonk presets! However, because of the scale quantization Metropolis doesn't always go through the presets in a linear manner, whereas Mutamix sends a 0-5v range so as you raise the slider it steps through the presets from one to the next. It just makes it a bit more clear and predictable for demonstration purposes, and I had them next to each other in the case so I could get a tighter shot. I didn't need to use Mutamix, and I've had a lot of fun using Metropolis to sequence Plonk (particularly with the new ratcheting features), I just chose to use it for this example. Good question though!

    What if I do not have the mutamix module. How can I
    control all four sounds to come out like you was jamming

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 4 роки тому

      Mutamix is not required! You can select presets with any CV source, but sequencers work particularly well because it makes it easier to select specific presets. Also, the kits that come in the factory preset library are all set to four presets, but you can select as many presets in the MOD selection range as you want!
      This video goes into preset selecting via the MOD input in more detail: ua-cam.com/video/EIhepLatoOg/v-deo.html

    Can someone tell me how to randomize presets??

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 6 років тому +1

      If you want to randomize presets you would set the MOD Dest to Preset Step, then set the range of presets that you want to randomize. If you want to randomize between all presets you would set it to Pst 1:128. Then you would feed a random voltage source to the MOD input.
      If you want to randomize Plonk's settings to create new presets, set MOD Dest to Randomize and either press the encoder or feed a gate signal to the MOD input.
      At 7:24 I walk through the MOD menu parameters.

    Can anyone explain to me whether it is possible to set a long release time in Plonk with the help of Decay knob?

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 6 років тому

      In that case you would want to set the Decay to max (127) under the object menu, and probably set the Noise Decay to max under the Exciter menu (which will be more pronounced with the Mallet:Noise ratio leaning towards Noise). The decay knob is more of an attenuator for these two values so even if it is set to max, if you have short exciter and resonator decays you will always get a short decay. I was able to get a decay of 10s with all the decays maxed.

    • @yalivec
      @yalivec 6 років тому

      Thank you for all your explanations. So, as far, as I understand, there is no full value built-in envelope function?

    • @ScottMFR
      @ScottMFR 6 років тому

      I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. You can set the three decay values to full values, and the Noise generator's amplitude envelope can be set to AHR which will hold on as long as a gate is high.

    • @yalivec
