Just saying this Hook 7 Video was done FIRST CLASS/ EXCELLENT JOB. I saw the Hook 7 face to face at West Marine and drove home to see what UA-cam had for helping my decision. I fish California lakes and inland Delta waters. Thank You.
I want to say thank you for your overview and instruction video on the hook 7 unit. I sat on my front porch for over an hour trying to follow the instructions in the book and was totally confused. Your overview and instruction video made it easy to set up each page and find the right button to complete each setting. You made it very easy for this 76 year old retired steel worker ( with limited technology) to complete the task. THANK YOU!! IETS GO FISHING!!!
Thanks for putting this video together. I’ve had this unit on my boat for a long time and only just looking at how to use it properly. Your detailed instructions have made me more comfortable with using it. Thanks heaps!
First time Lowrance user. (hook 7) never had one so sophisticated. Going to take lots of time to learn this. Not a bass fisherman like big cat, crappie and sand bass. I wish I had a photographic memory. Lol
Ive been looking at maby different ff and had not really viewed this one but after seeing ur str8 to the point tutorial I think I will be trying this one first!
Very very informative video thanks for taking the time to do that. I have one question. You mentioned a quick way to notice shallow water when goi.g to new places. Besides what the depth finder shoes, what is the additional way. What screen etc??Thanks
Great Video! very helpful! One Question: You mention that you have the unit set on auto range so that automatically detects the bottom and goes a bit further. How do I change my setting to auto range? My unit was a hand me down, and I don't have a book. Thanks!
After fishing and moving my boat all over the place I have created numerous cursor lines on my map page. How do I erase these cursor lines and start with a clean map page?
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
I have the same Lowrance. I use it fishing in the ocean, and I will tell you that in 250 feet or less, it's MONEY. Anything more and it is not very good. The transponder is small and not powerful enough for the deep, deep waters of the Pacific. Great tutorial, and if you have more showing how to change the colors and stuff, that would be cool. Most days I get up at 0330 and I'm on the water and zooming to the fishing spot 17 miles away, so I don't have time to mess with it.
Hour ago I purchased this hook 7 unit. My first one with this high tech. Question, which mapping chip I get. I have two choices. Nautical insight pro or lake insight pro. ? For free
Great overview. Recommendation: break this into a series of short video's where each is focused on a slower detailed narrative of the functions/features and how to use (e.g. use of the menu for each of the screens to show details for each of the pages). I'd like to see how to set the navigation so I can follow the same route back to the dock: this would be useful if I have to have my wife operate (navigate) back for whatever reason (e.g. I've had a hear attack or something dramatic that prevents me from operating my boat). Thanks
Just got a hook 7 as a free replacement after having two elite 7 chirps having issues with screen freezing for no reason.Hope this one does not have same issue.
I never use the steer function either.I was told it would be more for boaters traveling further distances.I wonder if this function could be eliminated from the unit and possibly help with speeding it up.
Hey man great video. I recently purchased the hook 7 and have been playing around with it quite a bit. I'm curious as to how you got your depth contour lines shaded a different color. I have the Lake Insight Pro chip and cant figure that out. Thanks in advance
Thinking of buying this unit, however, I like to fish fresh and saltwater. Is this unit ideal for saltwater, if I purchase a third party upgraded chart? Thanks!
great video , i have the same unit, i am trying to learn details on the chart page, i know how to mark brush piles, but i am having a hard time navigating back to them, can you help me ?
Hi Danny, while you are on your map page hit the menu button. the new panel will pop up on the left. Scroll down to the waypoints and hit enter. All of you waypoints will be listed and you can then select the waypoint you want and hit goto.
I just bought a Hook2 7x. Can I buy the navionics or any other type of mapping system for it later> It has a SD slot. I was just wondering, The Lowrance discription says (*'x' models do not support add-on mapping). Was just wondering, it does have a card slot
robert garrison I am personally using it on a kayak yak but on the boats that I have been on it has no problem at 65mph. I just flip the unit on and by the time I have the boat away from the ramp and headed in the right direction it has located me and is throwing down a track.
I’m having a hard time adjusting the screen to tell the difference even big fish and small fish. I fish the Maryland Chesapeake Bay Area. Nothing deeper then 50 feet and it’s all brackish water
I purchased a Hook 7 in the spring and this video is really helpful. Does it shoot directly under boat or what? Say I wanted fish a drop shot based on it? Thanks again!!!
Yes, it shoots straight down, if you were to stand over the top of the transducer you could watch a lure drop or a fish get pulled up from the bottom. It looks like a diagonal line on the screen.
Mine constantly beeps so much so that I had to mute it. I've read the owners manual and still can't turn it off. I would like it to beep only when a fish is presented. Is that possible. Also how robust is this unit can it take the beating of 30 MPH against the rough waves.
Paul M you are going to have to turn on fish id, the beeping you are hearing is an alarm for shallow water, deep water, off course, position acquired or low voltage. Having an alarm for just locating fishing will give you a lot of false feed back. This unit can handle the beating on a boat at 70, so you should be good.
If I am driving the boat fast the depth of the water jumps way up. And sometimes going slow it says I am in 1 foot of water but my boat wouldn't even float in that? What could be wrong
i fish all brackish water (maryland waterways). do you have a recommendation to what i should have my hook 7 unit set too? shallow or brackish? water usually isnt deeper then 40 feet where i go....normally around 30 feet. i am having such a hard time getting on top of the fish
Bought the 7x... How do i get the speed and depth numbers bigger. I see that there is two options small and medium. Is that the only settings for size. The medium size is still really small.
Jason Kennedy go to the page you want to see the info on and press the power button then select edit overlay. There will be an option to adjust the size
Brandon Smith just put the card in the GPS and then go to the map. Then hit menu and go down to the data, you will have two choices, Lowrance or Navionics, choose Navionics.
I cannot figure out how to enter the date! I opened "systems" and was able to set the time. How do I enter the date? I can change the format but cannot get any date options to enter.
That is the green contrast for the downscan, and for the chirp it is set with a blue background for easy view and has downscan overlay. That is why the orange section is on the bottom.
We got ours yesterday and took the boat out. What was showing up on the screen is nothing compared to what I've seen on other videos including yours. There seems to be too much clutter and none of the fish were arched. What do you suggest?
TuffySix depends on what the water is like so if it's muddy it days murky or if it's medium it will say mild or something like that or it will sayh clear pic the one it is and check ur sensitivity and make sure ur transcoder is right
Greg Gieringer Select menu when you’re on the Maps page, there will be an option called way point, routes and trails. Select way points and then go in and find the way point you are looking for and select go to.
The video is good but the audio is terrible. I have my volume at maximum and can barely hear it. Please use a microphone or similar in the future. Great info btw.
How many mah is the battery that you use, and about how long does it last on a charge? I just got the Hook 5 bundle and going to run a 8mah battery for now with it. Wandering if I'll need a bigger one.
i just bought a hook 7 and i have a chip. i cant seem to figure out how to get depth contours in a few of the rivers near my home but i can get depth contours on the lakes. what am i doing wrong?
I just bought hooks 7 come with everything.. after installing and hit the lake.. I’m not getting water temperature and depth readings… it look like shallow water which is not. Am I missing something??
You might have to go to your settings and edit, overlay information and make sure that both of those are turned on. Typically with the temperature it’ll take a couple minutes to get to the right temperature after the transducer is in the water for a while.
I've been using a Hook 9 on my council for several months and am satisfied with it although (usually after several hours) It will loose the bottom after moving the boat at speed. sometimes it will reset itself after a few minutes or, if not, I will have to turn it off and back on (reboot) then it will be O.K. I just purchased and installed a Hook 7 for use on the trolling motor. Virtually each time I pull the T.M. up go to a new spot, It takes several minutes to find the bottom . This is completely unsatisfactory. Spoke w/ Lowrance tech an he had me check the software which I did. It has Version 3.0.8 already installed. This is my 4th bass boat and I have had a lot of different fishfinders. Had an Elite 5 DSI on the T.M. before and it was great. Just wanted a bigger screen. Any suggestions? Paul
Hey Paul, sorry to hear about the headaches. I would check your power source and make sure you are getting clean power straight to the unit. Sometimes if you are piggybacking off of other wires or a bus bar it can cause problems. From the sounds of it it is more hardware than software to me. Has it always done this or did it just start doing this?
Thanks for the very quick reply!! I've been getting my power from printed circuit board in the bow of my Ranger 520. Same pins as I used for the Elite 5 previously installed. Will give it a try with power direct from aux.battery to the unit. This unit is new and only on the water one day. Had the problem right from the start of the day. Hope this works. Direct wiring will be pain to pull the wires through but if it works, it will be worth it. Many thanks again. Paul
How accurate is the down scan for identifying fish? I guide on the Fraser River for stugeon where the fish are big, anywhere from a couple feet up to 10 feet long or more. I'm leaning to spending more money for side scan but this unit comes in a nice price point.
Glen Stoner Like anything else it is one of those things you’ll have to get used to reading but I find it to be extremely accurate Especially when you pair it up with the traditional sonar. I will say I have moved into a 9 inch elite with side scan.
Bearded Bass Brawler, wow, thanks for the quick reply. So would you say that for finding large fish in 20-50 feet of water, that side scan is much better in that you see the fish from a distance without having to go right over top of them? That’s the impression I get.
100% agree with your statement, I use to take the same kind of route when going fishing. After switching to SS I realize that I had been missing 9 different pieces of structure on my way to my honey hole. I will say that the new badass Hummingbird has an incredible side scan, but the rest of the unit is just okay.
Once you are on the page that you need to display the time on hit menu and go to overlay info. You select whatever kind of info you would like to see, location of it and how big the text will be.
How the hell do I get out of DEMO mode ... lololol Just bought it and installed TDucer and have not got it in the water yet ..., But when I turn it on , All I get is DEMO MODE, The Pro 16 Card is in the SLOT Thanks ! Scot
Bearded Bass Brawler How do I zoom in the navigation page? We put in a new battery, and now it is at a birds-eye view! All of our trails are still there, and I used the plus button, but it only zooms so far before I "fall off the screen!
Paul M you need to go to any screen and then hit menu and go to overlay data, then scroll down and press volts, select that box and then it will stay on your screen.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. Puunani Slayer on the sonar you are looking for arches. The darker the color the more directly below you they are. The longer the arch the longer the fish, the taller the arch the thicker the fish. In down view mode the fish will appear as dots. So I use no h together to pinpoint fish.
That’s the same screen I run on our 1680 we have dual hook 7s with Chips . I love the green screen thanks for the video brother still learning. 🔥🎣
Excellent and simple instructions. thanks for the work you put into it!

Thanks for putting this video together. I’ve had this unit on my boat for a long time and only just looking at how to use it properly. Your detailed instructions have made me more comfortable with using it. Thanks heaps!
I just bought the hook 7 as an upgrade for my Lund. Thanks for the quick intro. Looking forward to getting it installed and trying it on the water.
Just purchased a Hook 7 mate this vid helped heaps I'm all over it now cheers Richo

I also have the chip
Many thanks B3. Just installed the H7 yesterday...then wind came up to 25Kts...maybe Monday afternoon.
Just inherited this exact unit on a used boat I purchased, thank you for the rundown!!
Tassos Manolas .Greece.JAST BEUTIFUL presentation of hook7 basic function. We need more videos from you. Manny Thanks.
Thank you.

Prynce Al I would get the new one call the Hook 2 7”
Bearded Bass Brawler I will look it up now thx man!!
Thank you for this overview. We have a couple of weeks before we pick up our boat and this is a great way for us to start learning this system.
That was a fantastic overview, thanks for taking the time to share!
I really appreciate this video!!!! I just order 2 of these for my boat. Thank You for the overview
great video!!!! installing mine tomorrow, im sure ill be back for another tutorial!
Can you please make a video showing us how to get the navionics + card started and how to acquire my position!???
The best explanation about lowrance ever. Love it man. Thank you.

Great info mate 👍
Is there a visual tutorial one can get that explains all the function of the Lowrance Hook 7
Ron Dixon what exactly are you needing instructions on?
Nice job on the videos. Just purchased this and you have done a great job explaining the features! Thanks
Great Video! very helpful! One Question: You mention that you have the unit set on auto range so that automatically detects the bottom and goes a bit further. How do I change my setting to auto range? My unit was a hand me down, and I don't have a book. Thanks!
J Flesh select the range on the right and it should pop up to different depths or auto

I have done a couple of other little other ones like this but need to do the Lowrance 9 Ti now.
Thanks for the reply. I was able to find them after I sent the post. I appreciate that you put these up. It's a lot to take in all at once.

robert garrison I am personally using it on a kayak yak but on the boats that I have been on it has no problem at 65mph. I just flip the unit on and by the time I have the boat away from the ramp and headed in the right direction it has located me and is throwing down a track.

Brandon Smith just put the card in the GPS and then go to the map. Then hit menu and go down to the data, you will have two choices, Lowrance or Navionics, choose Navionics.
awesome video man. very informative
thanks

Where do you get the sun shade for the unit?
I made it. Check out the video, ua-cam.com/video/HoODkcGigKs/v-deo.html
I need the operations guide manual for my Hook Reveal
You can download them from their website
what color do you have it set on to get it to look like that? thanks
That is the green contrast for the downscan, and for the chirp it is set with a blue background for easy view and has downscan overlay. That is why the orange section is on the bottom.
If u use the reset button will it erase the gps settings u already have on map?
fred solis just got out of work. Yes if you reset it will default all your settings back to the original set up
How do you set it in flasher mode?
We got ours yesterday and took the boat out. What was showing up on the screen is nothing compared to what I've seen on other videos including yours. There seems to be too much clutter and none of the fish were arched. What do you suggest?
You can go into the settings and turn down the gain, and surface clarity can be turned down as well.
What do you mean by turn down gain? What do you think is the best setting for surface clarity?
TuffySix depends on what the water is like so if it's muddy it days murky or if it's medium it will say mild or something like that or it will sayh clear pic the one it is and check ur sensitivity and make sure ur transcoder is right
just bought hook 7
last time i took my hook 7 out and was driving on the lake it wouldnt tell me where i was at on the lake on the gps how do i aquire my position on it?
I’m trying to figure out how to navigate to my wave point
Greg Gieringer Select menu when you’re on the Maps page, there will be an option called way point, routes and trails. Select way points and then go in and find the way point you are looking for and select go to.
I was messing around and did something, now I only have 4 pages how do I get the other pages back hook 7 please help thanks
So if you hit the pages button on the right side there will be a plus sign and you can add custom combo screens.
The video is good but the audio is terrible. I have my volume at maximum and can barely hear it. Please use a microphone or similar in the future. Great info btw.
Stephen Barr you are right about the audio, I have since switched to professional gear and makes it easier to hear plus it is clearer with less echo.
can you have your gps/ trolling speed up on screen all the time?
Matt Hazelton yes you can, I don't because I am on a kayak and moving at a slow speed
Awesome Thanks !
How do i set the volt/battery life on the second screen thanks

How can you set cordinates on your hook 7
do you have to have sd card installed
Yes, I have the Navionics Plus, US maps.
How do you add the time
Once you are on the page that you need to display the time on hit menu and go to overlay info. You select whatever kind of info you would like to see, location of it and how big the text will be.
Does it have down imaging?
Yes it does. The imagine in the video with a blue background is an example of DI. It also has 2D down and Side scan.

Alicia Boyer hit menu while on the map and then hit clear curser, that should do the trick for you.

Scot Neo go to the menu and scroll to the bottom, the last option is simulator, just turn off. You will see ending simulation mode.
Bearded Bass Brawler How do I zoom in the navigation page? We put in a new battery, and now it is at a birds-eye view! All of our trails are still there, and I used the plus button, but it only zooms so far before I "fall off the screen!
Scot Neo it will only let you zoom in so far to that birds eye view.

I can't figure how to put voltage on my screen (hook7)
Paul M you need to go to any screen and then hit menu and go to overlay data, then scroll down and press volts, select that box and then it will stay on your screen.

@@BeardedBassBrawler У меня hook 7 и я не могу с ним до конца разобраться. 😪😪😪

How do you read fish
Puunani Slayer on the sonar you are looking for arches. The darker the color the more directly below you they are. The longer the arch the longer the fish, the taller the arch the thicker the fish. In down view mode the fish will appear as dots. So I use no h together to pinpoint fish.
Does hook 7 have side scan?
It depends on the model but some do.
