I planned on buying it the first time I saw it when it was announced. Friday I can order it... the two things I am worried about the weight... another reviewer said it is about 1pound and he said he was fatigued around 15 minutes... he didn't think he could make it an hour, so a 2 hour movie would be a challenge. MAybe that is something we get use to... depending on how much of the weight is on your nose (which is a bad place to put the weight but doesn't sound like the weight is there). The second issue is that I am nearsighted and would need to buy the inserts... the inserts are just $150 so that is actually really cheap from what was speculated. So that is less of an issue (I just found that out and found my prescription.. so that won't be a hassle). The weight worries me because I don't want to spend a lot of money and not use it because it is heavy or just use it for short periods of time... I'm on my computer all day (maybe a good alternative to a standing desk... alternate back and forth) Will this take off over time... simple answer is yes... the dream goal for computers is to have holographic displays and talk to the computer and control a device with your eyes or hand gestures. This accomplishes that... in the future maybe they are just regular glasses (tech that exists) but this is far superior but again the weight. It is Wednesday and I am still planning on ordering it Friday. The weight has tempered by hype for this maybe 50% ... I will have to see where I am on Thursday.

@@KodaVoss I have to wonder if any of the people complaining about weight have ever spent time in a Meta Quest headset. That is to say, I don’t think Apple is committing any kind of original sin here so much as failing to improve much upon the burden that goes with current state of the art in VR. And yes, Tim Apple, it’s VR.

Always been an early adopter. I worked at Apple retail for 15 years as a creative. I remember the 1st iPhone launch very well. This one I'm leaning towards getting, but still not at 100%. sure. My guess is I will get it. I love the VR aspect and believe that when Apple delves into something like this, they do it well.

I will buy the Vision Pro. I have already created 73 panoramas and 26 spatial videos via my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I meditate each day and want to use the mindfulness app. I create various documents and plan to use the Siri dictate feature. I plan to watch movies via Vision Pro in place of my TV. I want to explore any new apps. For me, it is not a toy, I will use it for the activities I enjoy.

When it comes to apples first Gen prodcuts you have to look at it for what it will be 3-4 generations from now. The 1st iPhone was fine but most thought it was way too expensive, unnecessary, and just for enthusiasts. By the time we got to the 3GS and iPhone 4, it was everywhere. Same with iPad. The Vision Pro is the START of the journey toward slim glasses you use everyday instead of your phone+tablet+laptop+tv, all that hardware can collapse into spatial glasses.

I think they'll start slowly making it more and more VR games oriented while keeping all the commute functionality. They'd eventually over take Meta, or maybe they keep there's more like a computer while giving the gaming to Meta and other companies the gaming win

    • @bujin5455
      @bujin5455 10 місяців тому

I'm been asking myself that same question. Considering the fact it took Apple six years to develop this (which is three times longer than it took them to develop the first iPhone) it's hard to believe they are likely to have a yearly release cadence. They could of course do incremental improvements, like moving to M3+, moving to the newest version of WiFi, etc, but can they meaningfully improves the experience on a yearly schedule? Shrink it down, strip the weight out, improve the optical stack, meaningfully improve battery life, drive the price down to a mainstream price point? I don't think they are likely to make meaningful advancements on those fronts on a yearly basis. So the question is: Is Apple willing to retool on a yearly basis to make incremental spec bumps on a niche product? And in general, historically, the answer to that has been "no." The only curve ball here is that Apple may wish to push for accelerated development to drive toward mass market, but at the price they are launching at, that doesn't really look like their objective at the moment. I think they are launching with a strong enough feature set to not need to upgrade it for a while, and give the developer community time to build out an ecosystem, before they start getting aggressive about iterating on the product.

I’m on the fence as well. I look at this as an accessibility tool for me personally as someone who is visually impaired and someone who works in accessibility in my 9-5, but my work said they plan to wait given the price, and I am really…like I understand why, and I agree with them… but it’s like… new thing, new platform, new potential… I have tried the simulator and it has what I need as someone who is visually impaired but… like what will it be like on a physical device? One big plus for me I see is: infinite monitors of infinite sizes, along with the AT (assistive technology) I already know how to use from other Apple products. That said, I see tremendous potential of this platform with the right software.

My first thought is that it will quickly become a content consumption device, much like my iPad Pro did. I bought the iPad Pro with the hope it would replace my laptop for retouching, but it just didn't work out. The Vision Pro is a bit different because you can sync right into your laptop for pro-level work and, maybe, gone are the days of multi-monitor setups. It's a tricky transition period. That said, I'm releasing a digital asset management app for visionOS. Will anyone use it? If my App Store iOS vs. macOS stats are any indication... not really, at least not yet. I'm just inspired by the platform, so I want to be a part of it. As a visual creative, it's hard to imagine a better way to immerse yourself in your work.

Great video. It’s hard for me to recommend someone spend $3500 for an experimental device. I know I will watch different viewpoints about this new technology. I clicked on this one because I thought you were one of the media sites who had access to the device. I will not buy one, but I am not the ideal customer for this device. I think they are 3 types- the developer or the people who have the ability to advance the technology or uses of the device, the critic or “reviewer” who can provide detailed analysis and breakdown the features to the general public and finally the “early adopters” people who can afford the latest tech and will let everyone else know if it has the “it factor” and is fun to use. To me you are definitely in the critic/reviewer space and unless it is an unmitigated failure, millions of people who do not fit the customer profiles will be interested in hearing from.

I have decided not to buy the first generation of a new product this time. Seeing how fast Apple updates its processors, the first generation Apple Vision Pro will soon be an obsolete product. For me honestly, i won't buy it because I don't own no Apple products i been fine with my window android Eco system plus im a gamer so vr for me has been more in steam and meta at the moment, good for apple for giving people more options to buy the headset that fix their budget 👍🏽

Apple games will need to be redesigned for VR. Otherwise you may as well just be playing on your Mac/iPad or Phone. Let's be honest. The games for Apple are not the best. They never have been as Apple isn't known for gaming. This will be more for productivity and that is where it has the most potential. I can see them being the BEST at making VR apps for business and productivity. There are other VR headsets that are "passable" for productivity (Meta 3) but will outshine Apple in gaming. The question is, will enough people be willing to pay that much to work on their computers in VR?

Who the fuck wants to drop almost 4k USD to be a beta tester for this tech?
Plus the weight and inconvenience of putting them on and taking off.
Would’ve been more convenient if they’d been able to make light weight glasses with accessories like light/wind guards.
Probably be better if they weren’t so costly and bulky.

According to a UA-camr that tried it already 4 times, it's not comfortable enough to watch a full movie with it and start getting heavy after about 15 minutes, so bye bye productivity work... I guess early adopters might regret their purchase sooner or later because Apple will probably launch another Apple Vision No-Pro with lower res, probably more like Pimax Crystal or BSB because of availability and prices of displays, no front display for probably half the price that they also can produce and sell millions of times.

Apple did all their loyal customers a huge disservice. They priced this product outside the margins for so many people. I have purchased almost every Apple product and multiples in some cases since their is 5 of us. But $3,500 plus tax is way too much. It’s priced to push loyal customers out of this market, not to mention being a unicorn. In that sense I mean that it’s priced in a way that product will not be purchased by many or at least the commoners. Essentially people may be beta testers opposed to actual consumers, similar to Amazon Glow. But for 4k it’s simply too much. Then again could this be a business write off…if I did it that way I would likely wait a bit to see how the year is going.
If you have and can justify it buy it! But if life is hard wait and play it by ear, as it looks like a glorified meta or similar device.

I’ve been an early adopter of Apple products since the first iPod. The AVP is the first new product I’m not sure I’ll be setting an alarm to make the pre order for. I think you hit the nail on the head. If I could use this as a work computer to really get my moneys worth I’d be sold, but early reports from tech journalists I trust have all confirmed this thing is very heavy, making it something you might not want to use for an hour +. I think that’s partly why apples marketing of this product has shifted from “Spacial Computer” to essentially “Revolutionary Entertainment Device.” I want to want it and I hope it’s successful.

I have hundred percent control that there are actually working from home, where their eyes are, and what they are doing. Instead of supplying them with the expense, PC, workspace, chair, and desk I would give them, the Apple Vision Pro with the proper software, and a bunch of batteries. The future of home offices.

Avid Apple user here. Can’t afford it at all. But I see that if Vision Pro succeeds it’s going to change the world probably for the worse. It’s the equivalent to the experience machine thought experiment: either people is hedonistic or not, if people’s goals are purely hedonistic we have all reason to get plugged into mixed reality, but we won’t have freedom or access to reality on the long term, if people isn’t purely hedonistic, we don’t have good reasons to get plugged but everything will be occurring in the mixed universe… so bad luck, you have to be plugged, otherwise … reduced access to primary resources is a likely outcome. I will get the device if given the chance, anyway….

I really don't get the price. I know it's first gen and it's packed with brand new tech but I wonder if Apple shouldn't have found a way to shave a thousand bucks off this. Build an install base like video game consoles, make the investment to move these things even if this cut out your profits for now. The curiosity is huge but the cost is wildly almost laughably prohibitive. I see the future Apple (and Meta) want to build, I am all in, but I am not investing for now. As a tech enthusiast I'm next in line that means the masses are even further removed. Apple has a giant wall to climb. I wonder what Apples adaption rate projections really are, are they realistic. Is it a 3 year plan, a 5 years plan...

    • @acslater017

I respectfully disagree. We have had a decade of cheaper VR headsets ($300-$1,500) and there’s a reason they only have 10% retention. The quality of the experiences are limited and the user barriers are too high: weak gaming-centric software, middling mobile processors, clunky Wii controllers, blurry passthrough and mirroring, cheesy graphics and UIs.
A cheaper Vision Pro would have to compromise on crucial differentiating aspects like the display & graphics, passthrough clarity, Mac-level processor, the sensors & input methods, Spatial Audio drivers, years of R&D poured into a purpose-made OS and UI, media content deals and acquisitions, etc. At that point it’s a completely different and compromised product.
It needs to first be capable of enabling breakthrough experiences. Once they’ve planted a flag and people see they’ve achieved next level quality, they can slowly bring the cost down, sell more units, continue optimizing the software, build out the content ecosystem, etc. Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus, has gone on record saying this is the right approach for Apple and one he tried to do at Oculus before being overruled.
Having said that, there will likely be different tiers and market segments as there are for many other products. The market for low end and/or gaming-centric headsets is still wide open.

Gotta be honest: I don’t get this AT ALL. Very expensive. A bulky, heavy unit that doesn’t have huge storage and probably has sketchy battery life? Can’t wear it out in the real world? I’d have to see what the next generation of this toy brings before I’d even think about it.

When people say they don’t get it, that’s usually because it’s not something they need. I am not saying you are doing this, but I read posts of many people trying to find usage for this in their lives. If you are looking for a reason, it’s not for you. Skip the buy because you are not the demographic at this moment.
