To be honest, the reason why it's the most popular is the are more people knows about Manchester United and Arsenal back in early 2000, they're pretty big here in Asia. Man United's Asian tour is the reason how I became a fan of the team and modern football was invented in England much like how basketball was invented in the US which is why NBA is the most popular basketball league.
Honestly, the notion of PL being the best league only came up recently when PL started becoming a lot more top heavy thanks to extreme investments by foreigners. I don't know why English people would brag about their league when they've only produced 3 CL winning teams in the past 14 years while their teams constantly fail. In fact, the logo of English dominance, Man City, has only just recently broken a curse that had them either lose to teams that were unbeatable or teams they had no business losing to. For example, Man City losing to young Mbappe Monaco is just disappointing considering their defense at the time was touted as one of the best Europe just for their asses to be torn a new one with 6 goals by Mbappe and Falcao. If we even use other CL teams, Chelsea has been spotty at best, going in between either gritty CL wins that are arguably flukes or being eliminated early in knockouts. The only consistent team that has had success in Europe is Liverpool and their excellence only really lasted 3 years (2018-21). To summarize, Man City has only 1 CL in spite of an excellent team, Chelsea is only really an overperformer and Liverpool's success was extremely shortlived. Every other English club was irrelevant (talking to you Leicester City, Man Utd and Arsenal).

@@Jees226 You know that you're capping. First of all, their backline and defensive midfield was amazing. LB Kolarov, CB Kompany, CB Otamendi and RB Zabaleta, with CDM Yaya Toure and Fernandinho in the middle. Are you high or something? This a banter defense? Clearly not alive since 2016.
Second of all, their attack was amazing and yet they still didn't outscore Monaco. Monaco was practically a one man show with Mbappe and Falcao on the side while Man City had amazing midfielders and attackers with David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, etc.
Third, if we just keep it to that game, in the first leg, Man City should've gotten a penalty on Aguero getting tackled by Subasic in 34'. Also, in that first leg, they choked 5 chances, 3 of them by Aguero shooting instead of making the extra pass. You also heavily discredited Monaco's attack. Monaco had amazing players like Lemar, Fabinho, Falcao, Mbappe, Mendy and the guy Man City would later buy, Bernardo Silva. In the second leg, two of the goals were basically impossible to defend. I don't care what defense you got. In the second Monaco goal, Caballero's goalkeeping was dogshit. So overall, with missed chances by the attack combined with terrible refs fucked Man City. Come on. Rewatch it.

After 2018, the hierarchy of Europe changed. Barcelona has ran out of gas, Bayern is in the midst of the turnover between releasing vets and young stars, Ronaldo just left Real to go Juve and Atleti is practically old as dust. Literally no team except runners-up Liverpool had the form to compete. And yet, the two finalists, Tottenham and Liverpool, didn't even top their group. Starting with Tottenham, they had what is most likely one of the weakest runs to the final and even then, they almost lost twice. Against Man City, they literally only won by away goals in spite Son Heung-min's 3 goals in the tie. Against Ajax, that last minute winner by Lucas Moura is the only reason they were in the final. Liverpool's run, on the other hand, was way more substantial, ousting Bayern and Barcelona. Overall, it wasn't surprising Liverpool won CL since Tottenham's run was basically made out of pixie dust and luck.
In 2020, the 4 teams to represent England was Tottenham, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Tottenham would lose in R016 to garbage ass Leipzig, Chelsea was way too early schedule and got their ass handed to them by eventual champions Bayern and Liverpool lost in a gritty match against Atleti. But perhaps, the most embarrassing loss for England was Man City losing to trash ass Lyon where their best players were Memphis Depay and Lucas Paqueta. IS THIS YOUR DOMINANCE? I can't see it.
For 2021, the two teams on the rise was Man City and Chelsea. Chelsea played a slog of difficult games against Real, Atleti en route to the final while Man City's best opponent was best chokers of all time, PShitG. Because Man City was practically not tested and has been getting their asses handed to them all year, of course they lost.
In 2022, all the English clubs lost to CL mainstay Real Madrid, all in either hardfought or embarrassing ways. For Chelsea, they ran out of gas. For City, they conceded 3 goals in 10 minutes. Please explain that. For Liverpool, the "best" defense left Vini Jr wide ass open.
The real dominance of England has only started in 2023, where Man City played basically the toughest opponents en route to the CL Final.

Premier league is by far the most overrated one in the world. How can you guys say it is „the best“ in the world? Its a fact that not a single english team is in the semi final of the cl. So reality and your standards contradict themself logically.
On a personal note. Even arsenal who are playing league the top dog in the prem arent that good compared to the top european teams. Bayern is playing there worst football in decades and are struggling with major injuries and still arsenal looked like a mid table team in germany. I was very excited to see arsenal and especially gabriel and saliba, thinking they are world class/ top tear cb in europe. But they are definitly not. They are good but but in the prem they look way better than they actually are.
PL do has it's advantages likr big players, a lot of competitive and by far the best production quality for media audience

As an english fan, I do admit that a lot of us probably don't watch football from other countries. It is true that our teams haven't had great success in the past in the Champions League, but we are definitely not overrated. Currently, there are at least 4 teams competing for the title: Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and Aston Villa. You can say they are not, but in reality, they are. Even Spurs are closing in on top 4 so it is MILES ahead of any other league and NOT overrated in any sense. Yes, you can say Man City have dominated recently, but its not like other teams have not come close, when they have.

Well let’s compare the Prem with the other leagues as of now in the season. The point difference between 1rst and 4th as of now is 5 points whereas in La Liga it’s 10 points, in Serie A it’s 15 points and in the Bundesliga it’s 9 points.
This shows that the quality of teams in the premier league overall are much closer to each other in comparison to the other leagues where there’s usually just a single dominant force. We can already see from this season in the Prem some pretty big upsets done to the big 6 already and it’ll only continue on as the season drags out.
That’s why the Prem is hyped up so much as it has many teams that have the chance of winning the title compared to the other big 4 leagues that usually only has 2.
