Storyline:
Homestate depicts a week in the life of a seemingly run-of-the-mill family. Harvey struggles to keep his new business afloat, at any cost, amidst the uncertain economy. Crystal is a full-time mom who keeps Pearl, their 10 year old daughter, on schedule and manages the household responsibilities. When Josh, Crystals troubled brother, shows up with no place to go, the balance of their routine is thrown into disarray. This unexpected addition to the family sets off a series of events that exposes underlying issues, inadequacies and suspicions which threaten the foundation of their family ties.

I'm not sure how this is a faith movie, it seems like Josh ended up closer to God than the rest of the family. They might want to start thanking Jesus during grace, rather than Mother Earth

This is a "faith movie." Does not necessarily mean a "christian" movie in the Holly/Bolly/Nollyood scheme of things. Harvey was a hypocrite. So was Josh. One recognized that and tried to change. The other, well...
Reminds me of the Pharisee and the Publican in the Bible. Jesus despised Pharisees. We who call ourselves "Christians" should learn and be honest in private and public. God sees the heart and motives, loves us but WILL judge us. Thoughtful movie!

Did not like the movie. And Old men should not be kissing young girls on the lips, and brother-in-law should not be putting his arm around the young girl and trying to grouper and make her feel uncomfortable. There is a lot of wrong with this movie and the young girl, she is probably terrified and already be molested by someone. Hollywood or whoever made this should stop violating girls. As Laura Wilder(Ingalls) said, when she was in Little House on the Praire, she was 14 years old when they told her she had to kiss Almozo, she said she was scared out of her mind, he was 20 years old. And Hollywood forced her to kiss a man and she was a young girl. Sad very sad, that men keep taking advantage of girls. This world will never be safe for Girls/Women. You think this isn't in your homes, look behind closed doors, it is not just in the open. Like we see right now. This is in your everyday Homes.
Hmm...that grace they said at the table (the little girl). It had no mention of God, but instead it was in worship/praise to the sun and the earth. Quite strange...smh We must be even more vigilant...not everything labeled "Christian" is truly Christian.
It said something in the second line about “Him” who makes them strong and helps them grow…I caught that too…
This was not a faith based movie. There was no scriptures used. It just proves everyone needs a savior. And we all need to read Gods Holys words on a daily basis. Gods word says in Romans 12 verse 2. Renew your mind to Gods word so that Gods perfect Will, will be done in you. Just because we show up in church and or a christian meeting, and we pray doesn't mean we are all perfect christians. We need to READ Gods word daily, repent from our sins daily. God helps us transform to what He wants us to be. We will all fail without Gods guidance and Love. Praying for all who made this film and all the viewers. Jesus said whoever is without sin can cast the first stone. And not one, could cast it. In Jesus Name

Good uncomplicated movie . Didn't expect the ending . Made me think . ......a lot about my own life's good times and not so good ! However finding Jesus late in life makes a difference knowing HE loves me whatever , whenever , where ever !.That's so comforting . God bless those who are struggling at present .

Watched a good part based on the comments...I thought it was going to be a good Christian movie but humbly believe it really wasn’t. Too many times they would say “God” or “oh my God” which is blasphemy (unless God is being praised or worshipped). I did love the little girl’s enthusiasm and her mother’s part..”whatever you do, do it for the Glory of God” 1Corinthians 10:31) All honour and glory to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour :-)

The ending was also inconclusive...I didn't see how the movie was Christian, especially hearing the "grace" they said at the table, which had zero mention of God, but they were praising the sun and the earth and thanking those elements as well. It's quite sad!

OMG! Some of you alleged "Christians' need to get a life. Was Jesus guilty of blasphemy when He exclaimed..."my God, my God why hath thou forsaken me?" I am 58 years old and have been studying the Bible cover to cover since I was 10 years old and I found the movie as very honest and unpretentious. Some of the "Christian" comments here come from a place of serious immaturity.

The little girl was awesome...
It leaves the veiwers to think whatever comes through their minds.I liked to believed Josh returned to his girlfriend ,and the husband of his sister realized he was wrong having and afair and his wife felt it and their little girl accepted that her uncle Josh left.
Moral of the story: recognize your own mistakes & don't judge others by their mistakes, instead just love them.

Thomas, I've been reading comments after seeing the film. Sad some are judgemental, I gurss that reveals some hurt needing our prayer. Maybe it is a guy thing to understand you reflect and tell he rest of the story yourself. I like to believe the best because God's love and forgiveness overcomes all. Cliff hanger? Yes. Happy ending. Excellent acting by all! Good movie even though the end is left unsaid which was a bit disappointing after watching the whole movie. One can assume that everyone turned things around but it would have been nicer to have seen that played out.

Great movie!! It's crazy how someone has a perfectly loving and caring family at home, but they have that deep lust for something new, different, and exciting! Thing is ... that lil bit of fulfillment they get doesn't last long and its certainly not worth risking the greatness you already have!!

That is so true. When "SIN" has dominion over u it can lull u into lewd, lascivious and gluttonous type of lifestyles that can put u and those around u in jeopardy. Its like throwing a pebble in a pond. It has a ripple effect it touches all sides....sides u can not see.

I really enjoyed this movie. The acting was very good, especially Pearl. She perfectly portrayed a pre-teen. So sweet, caring, funny and curious. The adults were very good too. However, I feel like I missed something at the end because it left me asking too many questions and wanting more; hoping for the best outcomes for
all.

Me too, like the movie should have had more,like the sister made amens to Josh,sister knowing the truth of the affair of the husband but then may y not thru the brother . I hated for Josh to be sleeping in the tree house,them having a beautiful home.Not very happy with the ending!!!😢
Feels incomplete. Didnt love it
The story is about relationships, family and pretense. Dont we all have that. The outcome is when Josh realized his mistake. The brother in-law realized hes not the perfect husband and father. We, as humans, before we take the plank out of someones eye, you first must take the plank out of yours.
This movie made me feel like I hiked all day up a mountain only to reach a cliff at top that drops abruptly off & leaves no place to go.
...it spent too long on mundane activities only to reach a huge issue that doesn’t really get closure in the end. The theme of sin & forgiveness is only partly handled with no respect of the depth of pain about to erupt when the truth comes out. Disappointed.
LT, maybe the movie is endless intentionally, so, whoever have the same situation may choose how to end it, but with the look of Harvy's smile, while looking to his wife and daughter, i think he comes to his senses

It was a really good movie! Twist toward the ending but you could easily assume each of the characters chose the path to redemption and the road to restoration from the implications.

I think she knew her husband was cheating. That's why she was so defensive when her brother made the comment about him always working late.

Very good. Loved the actors and acting, especially the little girl. Kept my attention whole way through, drama, suspense. Read all the comments. One said he got away with cheating on her....don't think so. His conscience got the better of him at the end....left to your imagination. The brother left on the bus to somewhere....left to imagination. Thanks for sharing.

Didn't expect the end, it was like missing and unresolved content too... and I thought a lot about the ex-ray that was in the envelope that it may show that he had some kind of disease and was going to die, but they didn't let us know what it was it about, suspense....

The ending was perfect for that very reason. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey this piece took me on. Well done to all involved.

I’m utterly shocked and disappointed in all the responses here that are judging, arrogant and disrespectful. People who call themselves Christian and yet seem to know little about love, compassion or forgiveness. No wonder churches are empty and children and adults are lost. Very sad.
I am a Christian and I know that God loves me every day and watches over me and hold my hand every day and he’s by my side I have no one else in my life that loves me I live alone and have for years I have no family friends or neighbors all I have is my little puppy Gracie and I have to remind myself every day that God loves me because I have so many problems and so many illnesses and I never feel good and sometimes I just question God‘s plan for my wife what is it and why am I still here but I have trust and faith in God and I read my devotions and I pray every day

I really enjoyed this heartfelt movie. So relatable! The only scenes I wish they would have done wiser are the 2 where cocaine is used. It does change a person..and not to the better. Here it is shown like it would not much influence them. 🤔

Plods along with some unremarkable mundane events and culminates in some kind of unresolved climax.
It was okay for me but felt incomplete....
Mercy to the mercyfull. Judgement for those that judge. Just think: whom of us had not laid down a false testimony against our brother or sister. Those that have no sin, that shall throw the first stone. There are so many things in man´s hearth, yet he wants so litle to knows his own misery. Oh Lord, have mercy on us so that we learn what it means.

I liked it, but I have to say, the plot felt unresolved at the end- I guess it's the hope for a happy and righteous ending? That's what I got out of it.
Life is not "happy sappy." People who love God or are "religious" have drama in their life, sometimes good, other times, painful.
This movie perhaps was for each of us individually to think and sort out unresolved issues, secrets in our lives, maybe.

I get an open ending. but I believe that was a little too open for me. Left thinking about a movie is good, but I think that was left a little too much thinking.

Sometimes we get impatient we don’t know what God’s plan is for us but we have to wait on his timing he truly does love us he is a father and he is always going to be with us and watch over us and he holds our hands and we can bring all of our problems to him and he will take away all of us sadness in our pain in our suffering and someday we will have a place prepared for us in heaven if we are truly excepting Jesus Christ as our Savior we will be children of God and I hope all of you that are reading this will notice and if you are not a Christian please think about excepting Jesus Christ as your savior is the only pass to take in this life
LOL at all the comments complaining that it wasn't a Christian movie. I'm an athiest and I enjoyed the film. Had there been no payoff at the end of the film, then I would have felt like the "real life" portion in the middle was meandering and pointless. But the point that the film makes is that the father is absent from participating in the family while the ne'er do well uncle is participating in the family part even though he's an outsider. Family is more than just DNA - it's effort and what you make of it. The other point of the film is to show the frailty of us all and that we do make mistakes, sometimes very large ones. How you respond to those mistakes defines character. I feel like at the end, both Josh and Harvey are in better places because they understand the mistakes they have made and decide to learn and grow from them. Not everything needs to be always explicitly stated.
A good movie but I was waiting for more at the end, like a confession or an apology.

Seems like he owed that to his sister. And probably Harvey would hv been better off confroning his behaviors and owning them.
I guess Josh simply taught through example before heading back home.
It would've hurt her and destroyed her marriage. Her brother didn't want to hurt her. The husband was given a chance to do right. The brother let him know that he needed to do better.
