I love the “please shut up” accessories that Nintendo releases, like the ones where critics are asking for something so much that Nintendo gives in, just to still put some bs spin on it. I’ve been wanting to buy one of these for a while
@@lukaabramovic3227 the switch OLED is kind of an example of this. the Switch needed a technical upgrade because it was (and is) struggling to run a lot of games and was (and is) very limited. Then Nintendo released the Switch OLED, which everyone thought to be an upgrade specs-wise, yet the only thing that WASN'T improved about it were the specs.
The thing with Smash is that the game used up so much RAM, it would load a special version of the 3DS OS that was severely reduced in processing power. This is why some games like Smash and Monster Hunter "reboot" the base 3DS when you exit the game (doesn't happen on the New model because the extra power doesn't require the system to neuter it's OS for those games)
@ClunkerBlunker Purely technically, there is an "official" title that uses one of the new 3DS's extended memory modes (I'm not sure if it's the 172/64 one, or one of the others) - CTRAging, the app Nintendo uses to test 3DS systems at the factory
@ClunkerBlunker 128/128 seems pointlessly wasteful. If the original 3DS was perfectly fine with using 64MB for the OS, I don't see why they upped it to 128MB for the New 3DS. Wouldn't that extra 64MB have been better served for games to make use of all the time, rather than just in an obscure mode? Also, it's wild to realise how underpowered the 3DS was at the tail end of its life. You could buy a brand new game in 2019 that was designed for a system with less than a quarter of a gigabyte of RAM.
I just love how Scott manages to make an unscripted, 20 minute video, about a practically forgotten single accessory for the original model 3DS just astounds me.
I got the red 3DS in about 2012-2013, and the sparkly coating on that one impressed me as a kid. It had red sparkles as you'd expect, but it had subtle blue sparkles in there too. I took that as the Red/Blue glasses of old 3D, which I thought was a neat nod if on purpose.
The original 3DSs are still the best looking handhelds to me. I still love looking at my blue 3DS. They really looked like a premium product at the time, especially when compared to the old DSs. I wish Nintendo continued to put that much care into the way their systems look.
@@facebag666 The original white DS lite was the first game system I saved up for and bought myself. I can still remember opening it up in the mall, before I could even turn it on, and just admiring how good it looked while the rest of my family was still shopping. It has such a special place in my heart haha
@@facebag666 i had a piece of shit Sony Vaio laptop, and I always LOVED the style/material they made the laptops with back then. It was some sort of metallic black color(like you could actually feel the cold on it, and when it heated up you could feel it throughout), and it had this woodgrain pattern in the top that looked perfect. If I could, EVERY electronic device I owned would have the same materials and look to it.
Unrelated, but I remember getting the 3DS almost a year after it came out. My mom and I were at Target, and she ended buying me one. My immediate reaction to the 3DS was that it was a little uncomfortable to hold, and literally the next day Nintendo announced the XL. Talk about suffering.
If it makes you feel better, I have recently acquired a 3DS XL and is VERY uncomfortable to use. I don't know if you have used a XL, but the console is kinda heavy enough that you arms feel tired of holding it for to long. The extra space for hands is nice, but because of the bigger buttons, I feel like you have to travel more air to press everything, so you feel tired a lot quicker, and the L and R felt to me the biggest waist pain inducer that I have know (and I do f*ckin speedruns for christ sake)
@@invertebrado I also recently acquired an XL, and I am also finding it a little awkward to hold for long periods of time! It would be not pro gamer to develop carpal tunnel to get 0.3 seconds faster. What games do you speed run? I somehow remembered that I wanted to play FE Awakening as a kid, and I've been enjoying it now as an adult.
I’m a bit younger, but when I was 5 I got a ds lite used. Thought it felt great, then when I was 11 I got the 3ds xl and yeah it is heavy, but it felt great. I had a friend with the new 3ds xl however. And that felt quality but really cramped.
@@MrSquekersUPSB I have only done some few speedruns of Megaman X, hyper light drifter, and super mario world. But I don't upload any of it, its just for myself. I really recommend you pick some game and try yourself some speedrun! Its a new way of enjoying some you like
I was one of those few people who actually used the heck out of the Circle Pad Pro, for the game series it was initially released for - Monster Hunter. Yeah, I can put "500+ hours played with Circle Pad Pro" on my resume. My parents sure are proud of me :D
Monster Hunter shaped so much of the 3DS/WiiU era of Nintendo. Even the Switch allegedly has more RAM than was first intended because the MH dev team wanted more power.
Yup, just MH. Iirc that's why this was made, and why the new 3ds got the c stick - it was supposed to launch alongside 4U or Gen, I don't remember which. Edit: Just looked into it and yes, the new 3ds with the c stick launched alongside 4U in Japan, while the original Circle Pad Pro attachment released alongside 3U in Japan.
Fun fact, when MGS3 was released on the PS2, it did NOT have camera controls, it played like MGS1 and 2. Only later Konami released the "subsistence" version, in which you could freely control the camera. So yeah, there was this way to play MGS 3 with no camera control whatsoever
I always wondered why Konami didn't just port the original release to 3DS instead of the Subsistence version. It already doesn't have almost any of the extra content Subsistence added, and the way it controls on 3DS because it just HAD to have a controllable camera despite lacking a second stick is frankly nightmarish. It would've made WAY more sense to just port the version that has a non-controllable top-down perspective.
@@LordArikado Honestly disagree. I first played MGS3 on the 3DS (I know, I can't sleep at night knowing that either), and while the method of moving the camera without a second stick obviously isn't perfect, I'd much rather have that than SOLELY top-down MGS3 and not even have the option. Because that sucks ass, I've played through the game so many times now (on the PS3 HD Collection, thankfully) that I can't even fathom playing it in top-down mode the whole way through, who does that.
The best way would have been to just have all the options. I have it on the 3DS and do not remember if you could choose, but I beat it on Vita on the HD collection and you could choose the camera type (although free camera was a no brainer with the 2 analog sticks)
Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Contemplate how the Roman empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years to accomplish the religion of the Israelites C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20 Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power. Once the last Western Roman Emperor was removed from power in 476 AD, the Pope was given civil and ecclesiastic authority over Rome; healing the deadly head wound of the beast in Revelation 13, as they took the Emperors title of Pontifex Maximus, leader of the church and state. “We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.) Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.) Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894) The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. Daniel 7:25 says “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” The Popes of Rome spoke against Elohim and proclaimed to be God. They reigned for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. during which they caused tens of millions of saints to be killed. The Pope’s title is Vicar of Christ, which in Latin is ‘Vicarius Filii Dei’, and equates numerically to the number 666
As a side note, there was a tech demo of Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS Vita. It was claimed to have used the same engine with lower fps. So technically it got pretty damn close to the PS3 (it did make it if simply running the same engine is the standard), which imo is very impressive for the time. As was the PSP pushing a PS2 like experience... I miss Sony releasing new handhelds.
I would fucking love a new handheld for the PS5. Unfortunately, with how hard the PSP and especially the Vita flopped, I doubt we'll see any handhelds from Sony any time soon.
The Kid Icarus one is always so weird to me BECAUSE there are in game alternative control schemes, including one where you don't use the touch screen at all (It is a little funky, but it is functional...somehow), so it baffles me why the second circle pad couldn't be added on as yet another one of those alternative play methods.
From what I heard back in the day, they hadn't yet taken advantage of patches for 3DS games and they were running out of space for the game, so they could only really program it to replicate the main Circle Pad
@@nullset2 also splatoon is a multilayer game and kid icarus a single player game Boi people really will make up conspiracy theories about anything these days huh
@@pacomatic9833 You can actually replace the N3DS nub with a low-profile thinkpad/PSP nub - if you do it properly it's 100% reversible if you ever change your mind, and it makes a world of difference in games like monster hunter where you're expected to use it for camera control. Still not as good as an actual analog pad, but infinitely better than the default nub.
I remember struggling back in the day with smash on the 3DS. I owned a copy of metal gear solid 3 for the 3DS and I was debating picking up the circle pad Pro, then I read an article saying how smash uses 95% of available memory and cannot afford the 5% needed for the circle pad Pro lol That made it an easy skip for me
I literally bought this back in the day because I figured it's a no brainer for Smash 3DS, I was already into Project M and such with friends, then was so disappointed when I could only use it on MM3D
I seriously can’t imagine how it takes 5% of the system’s memory to include a goddamn analog stick, they must have been the worst programmers of all time
The Circle Pad Pro went perfectly with Monster Hunter games. The second analog stick let you not use the awkward claw grip and gave you something more substantial to hold for long sessions (though the claw did have one advantage: no need to move your thumb from the face buttons to adjust the camera). It's main downside of not being portable was irrelevant to Monster Hunter players because the online play is the main selling point anyway. You could use public wifi I guess, but any lag or disconention could blow a mission you'd sunk half an hour into. The C-nub on the "new" 3DS models was workable but not as good from a control point of view as the CPP. The better framerate mostly made up for it though.
Monster Hunter as a series used to use one thumb-stick as essentially 4 buttons, is the funny part to me. Each cardinal direction was a move with your weapon (if that sounds like it might be intuitive, I assure you, this version of it was not.) As a long-time fan of the series, I do mean "funny," as that system was so clunky for a PS2-era game, it's comic in hindsight.
I was wondering when you’d cover this conjoined twin of an accessory. GameStop offered a preorder package with Resident Evil back in the day. It’s actually surprisingly comfortable to play with, helped that the game was awesome too
I bought one of these back in the day simply because it made the 3DS more comfortable to hold. If you had hands larger than a 10 year olds the original 3DS would cause major cramps. The fact it made Resident Evil Revelations easier to play was just a bonus.
@@McNugget_Buddy yeah I do the same to this day. Back then I used it for revelations, which was bundled with it, and basically anything it supported, but nowadays I'll almost always use it to keep my hands from cramping
@@McNugget_Buddy Same!, I use it on my classic old 3ds all the time!. Not only for the "circle pad pro games" but because it makes the classic 3ds so confortable to use!.
It is a damn crime Kid Icarus Uprising doesn't support the circle pad pro/N3DS's second analog stick for camera controls. Being left handed means I'm a sitting duck if I'm aiming in the game. I remember being revolted when I tested the game out on my New 3DS only to find out I had to use the dinky-ass second analog stick to move (yes, I know ABXY can be used for that purpose, but you are fucked if you expect ANYONE to use those buttons to move in a 3D enviornment). I also remember needing to use the d-pad to attack, which felt so dirty, though I'm pretty sure I could have just used the shoulder buttons for that although I don't know how well that controls. I know "this game needs to be ported to switch" is a meme at this point, but Kid Icarus Uprising needs to be ported to Switch with good controls because everything about the game except the control scheme is really good.
Dillon’s Rolling Western 2 has an option for left-handed users to use the face buttons as a d-pad. The touch screen was used for attacks. It was awkward but it felt more natural than playing the first game without that option to me.
This feels like a normal scott the woz episode minus the border, he's using his presenter voice, there's music, editing, video examples, but I doubt it's scripted. I think that's cool, I personally subbed to see Scott be a tad more chilled out with no to minimal jump cuts and to see the behind the scenes stuff, but I see why it's edited like this.
That's the great thing, the only difference is there's no script, that's why they're easier for him to pump out, but besides that there's no drop in quality or work put in, he still puts in his written jokes, there's still images and videos put on screen, it's all there, plus the charm of his human speech patterns, you can hear him repeat things like "ya know" or "like" or repeating the first part of sentences like he's talking to a person, things that would never be written into a script. It makes Scott's stash videos feel much more "intimate" you could say.
Man, you guys get REALLY fan-ish with these UA-camrs lol, like y'all get so deep about it. Its a dude talking about game stuff. I like his content a lot, but I never find myself looking into this kind of stuff.
I think the main value of a c-stick for Smash Bros is that it allows you to do aerials easily. If playing without it, to do a backair while travelling the opposite direction, you'd need to quickly flick the stick back and press a, but with the c-stick you can just press the sticks in opposite directions.
Something you might not know is that Hori, a really good manufacturer of 3rd Party stuff for Nintendo consoles, actually made a 3rd party Circle Pad Pro for the 3DS in Japan. It was meant to tie in with Monster Hunter 4G and worked similar to the regular 3DS Circle Pad Pro... the difference is that the second Circle Pad was on the left hand side where the ZL button would be, while said button was on the back of the add on. It's quite interesting. [Edit] Was not expecting this comment to get some attention! To think that some people know about the Hori Slide Pad for 3DS and 3DS XL puts a smile on my face.
For those struggling to find it, it's called the Hori Slide Pad. I must say it does look quite interesting, but I'm not sure how an index (or middle) finger would have the required dexterity for a complete range of motion with the second Circle Pad (without developing carpal tunnel and/or arthritis).
Yes apparently this was because many Monster Hunter players had gotten used to some style of play on the PSP or Vita that involved using the left hand in this style.
@@anguishedcarpetYellowvoltage means that it feels like it goes both ways in these videos. I think the intent would be more clear if they said "talking AT us"
I loved this thing. Didnt have any current era consoles at the time of the 3Ds so sunk hundreds of hours into monster hunter for the 3DS and the circle pad pro was a god send to play that game comfortably.
Was just about to comment this! MH4U was my introduction to the series, and I don't think I would've stuck around long without this thing, and I've been a diehard hunter since
I used mine for hundreds of hours in those three main games that used it (MH, RE revelations, MGS3D). A lot of great memories out of it. And I still think is the optimal way of playing those games, including now the Luigi's mansion remake, the original game was built for two analog sticks and the nub doesn't cut it. Worth mentioning are the games that should have used it (or got an update to use it) like splinter cell 3d, RE the mercenaries 3D, Luigi's mansion 2. Also worth mentioning that the new nintendo 3ds acts as a circle pad pro for all the old games that supported it. I want to see a left handed playthrough of kid icarus with the horrible analog nub
@@sauron6977 Yeah, specially since the action is so intense in that game. I think luigis mansion 2 is the other big omission the original game was built arround two sticks, that was kind of the whole point tbh, to showcase the capabilities of the gamecube and the gamcube controller.
If you slapped the blue border on this puppy it would totally hold up as a regular Scott the Woz episode. Amazing how much content you can make out of such a simple topic.
I remember buying this at my local Game store way back. The guy who assisted me with the transaction kept shouting "Introducing the Circle Paaaaad Pro!" in a cheezy 90s kids commercial-style i wanted to laugh so hard I was already in my 20s at that time but I felt like the Nintendo 64 kid back then 🤣
I loved the circle pad pro. Me and my buddy played side by side every day, and we both were grinding 2 games hard.. Kid Icarus, and Monster Hunter 4. I played both games with the CPP from day 1 and he never had it, and was constantly jealous of how much easier if a time I had. I got so used to having it that I never took it off, even when playing games that didn’t support it. Absolutely loved it and this totally hits a sweet spot in my heart
Big same. Never took mine off my 3DS XL after hundreds of hours on MH4U using it. It also helped that the back end of the Circle pad pro had grooves that actually made it comfortable to hold in my hand compared to the flat surface of the 3DS back side. Also the added width actually helped my hands not cramp up on long game sessions
Honestly it’s biggest use really was monster hunter, even on the newer systems with their built in nipple would work a lot better with the circle pad pro
i still don’t understand why they finally decided they would redesign it and even add a new stick and then did the nipple instead of a real stick. classic nintendo
While stupidly designed (instead of just remaking the system to have two fully operating ones) I do admit having this thing on my 3DS really helped me out as a southpaw. I went from having games that were a disaster to play left handed, to being able to excel at the game no problem once I was able to articulate and guide the touch screen with the stylus in my left hand. So ultimately while VERY goofy and bulky looking, i am glad I picked up the peripheral in the end.
The New3DS nub is very reminiscent of the nub that older laptops had. It was often used in conjunction with or in place of a traditional trackpad and operated in much the same way.
I remember suffering through using one of those back in middle school/early high school, so roughly 2008-2010 - I was poor and had to make do with a $10 junk laptop from the thrift store - nub trackpad, no working audio, hard crash if ever left on battery power for more than a minute, and slow as heck. Still have it, too. It was barely functional, but it could play Age of Empires 2, Railroad Tycoon 2, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, and most importantly, Burning Sand 2, Nethack, and Dwarf Fortress. The latter 3 games were perfect because they didn't have audio in the first place and were playable even with my janky old laptop.
On my New 3DS systems I've modded them to replace the c-stick's rubber nub with a PSP stick. It still doesn't move, but imo it does feel better. I've also seen low profile Thinkpad mouse nipple cover thingies used to do something similar which I intend to try sometime
@@ihavenoideas5844 In the 64's defense, the C buttons were obviously meant for camera control from the get-go (hence why they're called the C buttons to begin with, C for Camera) and then the GC turned that into the C-stick, even keeping the yellow coloring. Not much excuse for the DS/3DS though, other than that thankfully most devs kept in mind you couldn't easily control a 3D camera and rarely tried to implement it (aside from a few glaring exceptions, cough cough Super Mario 64 DS).
I don't know the IP concerns in detail, but I often wonder how exacting these companies' legal advisors would get with controller designs tweaking this or that to avoid copying other layouts, at least in the era before Microsoft's controllers became the _de facto_ PC standard.
I remember getting the 3DS XL and this accessory specifically because I got it for Monster Hunter 4U... then I noticed that there was a New 3DS XL that had the little nub and I instantly returned it to get that instead since it was also had more power. Good concept of an accessory, but the New 3DS just made it useless.
your personality and humor is so great. I find it so mind boggling that I happily sit through hours of your content knowing damn well i barely even remember nintendo exists most days
I like how Scott's Stash is turning into Scott Wozniac talking about the video game stuff that interests him as the real person, while Scott the Woz is still remains the lil virgin character we all love
Former GameStop Employee here. The barcode may not have scanned, but every game released in the U.S was in the system. We would just have to look manually. The only exceptions were the few recalls over the years. OG San Andreas on the PS2 is an example of a game that we couldn't take, we could only take the "Special Edition" after Hot Coffee was discovered.
I bought one of these from a friend as I got into Monster Hunter, as it was essential for playing said franchise. I preferred it over the eventual built in circle pad that came with later versions of the console. The reason why it holds so much sentimental value to me is because at a preview event for Monster Hunter Generations in London I got to meet the developers who had visited from Japan, and they signed the back of my Circle Pad Pro!
I bought MGS 3D recently on my New 3DS XL and then realized….wait, tiny 2nd analog nub, tiny 2nd set of shoulder buttons…I wonder if games that used the circle pad pro work on a new 3DS…and they do. If you turn on that control scheme MGS just assumes your new 3DS is a circle pad pro. It’s nice that Nintendo programmed in that compatibility even if you’ll rarely use it.

Gotta give you props for such a Minty 3DS. Handhelds take so much abuse it’s hard to find old ones in fantastic condition. Always nice to see handhelds that are exceptionally well taken care of well preserved
This thing got me through over 2000 hours across all three 3DS Monster Hunter games, easily the best video game accessory I've ever owned for that reason alone.
I'd love to see a Scott's Stash video covering the Wii Classic Controller and the pro version. They remind me a lot of this since they both address complaints about unconventional controllers.
Hori made these for the 3ds and 3ds XL - dubbed the slide pad/extended slide pad. What was interesting about them was the right stick was put under the left trigger. To be honest, controlling the camera that way felt a lot more natural. I eventually ended up buying both since I upgraded to a larger 3ds.
Yup, I got this thing for monster hunter when 4U released. I got it used so it didn't come with any instructions. I've thought for all these years that the thing was broken because it didn't immediately work when I put it on, but now, - 8 years later - the Woz tells me it needs a battery. I always thought the circle pad pro was dumb BUT I WAS THE DUMB ONE ALL ALONG.
Honestly I never even noticed how lack luster the release line was for the 3DS! I got my 3DS on christmas with Asphalt 3D, I put a countless amount of hours into that game, it was so addictive and fun, I don't regret playing it at all. The circle pad pro was something I also wanted, for no particular reason, just cause it looked cool. Of course that reasoning did not convince my parents to get it... lol
I have to argue that the 2DS XL is the superior system in terms of build quality. No glossy finish, a nice bevel that prevents the circle pad from stamping the top screen, and nice hard plastic. I think it's a universal childhood experience to fall asleep with a system in your bed and be terrified that you rolled over on during the night.
I actually don’t have many, if any, circle pad pro compatible games, but I still use it whenever playing my 3DS XL at home because, for me, it’s so much more comfortable to hold than a 3DS XL by itself
I LOVED playing Resident Evil Revelations with Circle Pad Pro back in 2012 (I even got the Pad because of this game, got it bundled with it actually). It was my second-most played game (first one being Pokémon Y with over 800hrs) as I played the game's raid-mode over and over again, especially the final "ghost ship" level. MGS 3 was also a blast using CPP and I was very upset that as well that I couldn't use it with Kid Icarus.
I remember the 3DS launch and how sparse games were but, resident evil changed that for me personally, and then I was on the 3ds train ever since. When this came out, as odd as it seems, I was super excited because the dual joystick controls on RE Revelations. I just threw the circle pad into my back pack and only connected it when needed.
I think Nintendo should make a Switch Micro (size and thickness of a smartphone) with two circle pads for ultimate pocketability. That thing would sell like crazy, especially if they make it dockable (pro controller required).
I love that nintendo caved in so much to fans that they added the same thing that was used in laptops from the 90s to control the mouse for a "second stick" They always said that there is no room in the 3ds for a second stick and it would truly be difficult to implement, but the XL versions would have no issue fitting a mostly flat stickbox, and I fact checked this. With a minor redisgn and moving the battery more to the middle its completely possible, someone with more electrical skill than me could even add one.
As a former GameStop employee, the reason why it was likely there to begin with is that it was accepted as a regular 3DS Circle Pad Pro in the system by mistake or without realizing it's not the same thing.
When I saw the timestamp on this video, I was morbidly curious, and as usual, you did not disappoint! Haha! This was as awesome and interesting as I expected - again, as usual! Thanks so much for this! You the man!
I always thought the “issue” of having one analogue stick was way over blown. “Console quality” on a handheld is something that sounds really appealing, but doesn’t work very well in practice. The best handheld experiences are the ones designed specifically for a handheld. And it seems that Nintendo have been the only company to really understand this over the years. This is also why I think the Switch is a pretty crappy portable, but an amazing home console.
that "scanning the barcode story and gamestop couldnt sell it" actually just happened to me. I tried selling gamestop a wii u game that they had a listed price for on the trade-in page of their website, and if its on there, theyve always accepted it. But this time, they scanned the code, said its not in the system, and refused to buy it. I wracked my brain while scouring the box, trying to figure out why, only to see "not for individual sale" in fine print on the back of the box, and realized that it came as part of a collectors bundle. So maybe the disc box wasnt packaged to be resold
Literally the only reason I still have my physical PS3 copy of Final Fantasy XIV (which I can't even play since the servers for that version were shut down years ago) is because the GameStop I bought it from refused to take it back because they have a policy of not accepting games that came with DLC codes or free subscription trials if they're already used. So now I just have this glorified coaster taking up space on my shelf.
Oh man so glad to see these and you got the XL circle pad pro! I actually have both still in the box that I ordered straight from Nintendo when they were dumping old stock haha, nobody bought them.
Also since you were so damn young back then, the big deal since the game boy was that someday we'd get portable consoles that would be so powerful we'd be playing essentially the same games that we were playing on our 16/32bit systems, which sort of happened with the psp but even then we knew those ports were getting shafted, it was plain as day (have you played mortal kombat unchained? it the character models look ridiculous) and we were hoping the next generation of portable consoles would be THE one to bring parity, but then it barely just happened, and we still were shafted but this time by smartphone gaming which just seem to have sapped portable console gaming's life energy despite the games being so much more simplistic than even a lot of stuff we played on the og game boy. The PS Vita fell and the 3ds limped on but only because nintendo had the wii to prop it up, and since then we have the switch but that feels more like a swan song for traditional portable console gaming because what's there gonna be next generation? a switch U? I can't see there being a return to separate consoles for home and portable gaming.
I didn't have a Wii U, but i did have a New 3DS XL, and it was how I played Smash at the time. I really loved the c-nub, I liked the way it felt, to softly nudge my strongest attacks.
I used to love my Circle Pad Pro, I used it to play a ton of Resident Evil Revelations back then, and even when I wasn't playing a game that used it (which was most of the time), I kept it on because the system was much more comfortable for me to hold with it on (I have big hands, your mileage may vary). You can make fun of its (subjective) ugliness and the stupidity of not just including a second stick by default all day, but for me, it was a big upgrade in terms of usability and I hugely appreciated it, nothing but good memories.
I got a N2DS, and Minecraft one time, and I remember it feeling impossible to play. The stick just didn't work well enough for constant use. Luckily, there's an easy mod you can do, where you rip the c-stick out with something (like a bent paperclip), and plop in a PSP 1000 stick. I'm joking when I say it looks official. I have the black and blue model, and it looks more official than the normal design. It's also *SO* much better! The extra surface area makes it so much easier to control. It's still the same internals (you're only replacing the cover of the stick), but it feels almost completely different. The normal c-stick feels like a very stiff pencil eraser, while the PSP 1000 cover feels like a real stick. There's enough room to slide your thumb a bit, but it's also grippy so your thumb doesn't slip when you don't want it to. It also fits perfectly! I've been using it for years now, and it's never come out, unless I intentionally pull it out (to show a friend for example)
Best Game on the 3Ds was Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D. I literally still have it but it's the only reason I kept the console. But it definitely could have used the second circle pad. But it also worked fine in terms of control without. The circle pad is probably one of the best things about the 3Ds it's self. It worked very well. I'd honestly rather have 2 circle pads then joy sticks on the PS vita.
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 over the course of 1260+ years. Revelation 17 confirms that the beast is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!
Funny thing about Resident evil revelations is the game actually runs worse with the circle pad pro because one of the main features of the game is disabled if you have circle pad pro enabled

That makes a lot of sense. I always wondered why Smash cut to black when I closed it on my old 3DS but not on my new one.
Pokémon Sun and Moon as well as the Ultra versions worked the same way.
@ClunkerBlunker Exactly, why waste that extra 64MB on the OS when it's not necessary?

Unrelated, but I remember getting the 3DS almost a year after it came out. My mom and I were at Target, and she ended buying me one. My immediate reaction to the 3DS was that it was a little uncomfortable to hold, and literally the next day Nintendo announced the XL. Talk about suffering.
If it makes you feel better, I have recently acquired a 3DS XL and is VERY uncomfortable to use.
I don't know if you have used a XL, but the console is kinda heavy enough that you arms feel tired of holding it for to long.

You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20
Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet
Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power.
For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.)
Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.)
Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894)
The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD.

Big same. Never took mine off my 3DS XL after hundreds of hours on MH4U using it. The New3DS nub is very reminiscent of the nub that older laptops had. It was often used in conjunction with or in place of a traditional trackpad and operated in much the same way.
Thinkpads use it to this day
I remember suffering through using one of those back in middle school/early high school, so roughly 2008-2010 - I was poor and had to make do with a $10 junk laptop from the thrift store - nub trackpad, no working audio, hard crash if ever left on battery power for more than a minute, and slow as heck.
This thing came in handy BIG TIME when playing Snake Eater 3ds. I'll always be thankful for this accessory because of this
On my New 3DS systems I've modded them to replace the c-stick's rubber nub with a PSP stick. It still doesn't move, but imo it does feel better. I've also seen low profile Thinkpad mouse nipple cover thingies used to do something similar which I intend to try sometime
Nintendo making a 3d system without 2 analog sticks is so Nintendo.
And then they did
They did that 3 times (N64, DS, 3DS)
@@ihavenoideas5844 In the 64's defense, the C buttons were obviously meant for camera control from the get-go (hence why they're called the C buttons to begin with, C for Camera) and then the GC turned that into the C-stick, even keeping the yellow coloring. Not much excuse for the DS/3DS though, other than that thankfully most devs kept in mind you couldn't easily control a 3D camera and rarely tried to implement it (aside from a few glaring exceptions, cough cough Super Mario 64 DS).
@@ihavenoideas5844 technically 4 times considering the Wii motes naturally don't have an analog stick either.
I like to think that Valve was inspired by this and that's why the steam deck has the analog sticks positioned like they are
I don't know the IP concerns in detail, but I often wonder how exacting these companies' legal advisors would get with controller designs tweaking this or that to avoid copying other layouts, at least in the era before Microsoft's controllers became the _de facto_ PC standard.
AS a lefty and a huge fan of kid Icarus uprising I can honestly say I am so happy to have this thing. Such an incredible game for a handheld.
I remember getting this with Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon back in 2012. I used the circle pad pro maybe once 🤣
your personality and humor is so great.
Only Scott The Woz could make a 24-minute video on the Circle Pad Pro for the Nintendo 3DS
And I am here for it.
I've been a fan for literally six+ years and I had no idea your side channel was so high quality. I'm a fool. Thanks Scott.
it truly was the circle pad pro
That accesory was amazing for monster hunter. It also made the console so much more comfortable. I wish the new 3ds had that instead of the tiny knob.
How did this man make a 23 minute video about a singular accessory lol? I can barely make a 3 minute video about a full unboxing💀💀💀💀💀
Wait, this isn't Dankpods.
can you believe no one bought this
Idk if a 3DS can drive the herr-der six hungoes by ol' mate Senn
We gotta go to cashies mate, i totally forgot
Eenie, meenie, miney, dingus
Nah, Sir Sebastian circa 2009
Scott's Main Channel 2: Scott Harder
It’s nice that Nintendo programmed in that compatibility even if you’ll rarely use it.
i forgot this existed. i was fine that way.
I always wanted one of these even though I had no games that supported it
I love how the new 3DS basically just used The classic computer cursor Clit for a second joystick, it’s kind of amazing
It used the same technology from the Thinkpads, Nintendo licensed it from Lenovo at the time.
We got a Circle Pad Pro video before the L Button video.
L button?
i like these scotts stash videos, because scott is half in character and also half out.
Man, I never used one of these myself, but one of my friends back in high school was a big Monster Hunter fan and defended this thing to no end
@The Host Lucario He’s got a switch so he’s probably playing Rise and hasn’t looked back, but i’m sure he’s got fond memories of it
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs!
I love this channel so much
I'd love to see a Scott's Stash video covering the Wii Classic Controller and the pro version. They remind me a lot of this since they both address complaints about unconventional controllers.
I always kinda wanted one. This was an awesome retelling of a peculiar lore nearly forgotten by man. 👏👏
I present to you, the steam dec- Wait a minute THAT’S JUST A 3DS IN A CIRCLE PAD PRO
the circle pad pro works with the 2DS, if you have a Dremel
The moments where Nintendo says "We hear you, but please kindly shut up" is hilarious
7:30 finally uses the device
This was the only way I could semi-comfortably play Monster Hunter on 3DS. Using the touch screen to move the camera by default was the wooooorst
This. I bought the 3DS LL circle pad pro to play MH4U and nothing else.
crab clawing the d pad to move the camera for the psp monster hunter and 4 before the new 3ds came out stull haunts my hands to this day
I actually don’t have many, if any, circle pad pro compatible games, but I still use it whenever playing my 3DS XL at home because, for me, it’s so much more comfortable to hold than a 3DS XL by itself
The L button video is getting closer I can feel it
Bro...
Hey Scott, this was a scar in our memory we were happy to forget. thanks for bringing it up :D
I love that nintendo caved in so much to fans that they added the same thing that was used in laptops from the 90s to control the mouse for a "second stick"
They always said that there is no room in the 3ds for a second stick and it would truly be difficult to implement, but the XL versions would have no issue fitting a mostly flat stickbox, and I fact checked this.
I bought both the original and XL version of the Circle Pad Pro for one game. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.
that "scanning the barcode story and gamestop couldnt sell it" actually just happened to me.
The PS Vita fell and the 3ds limped on but only because nintendo had the wii to prop it up, and since then we have the switch but that feels more like a swan song for traditional portable console gaming because what's there gonna be next generation? a switch U? I can't see there being a return to separate consoles for home and portable gaming.
...you do know what a Steam Deck is, don't you?
I didn't have a Wii U, but i did have a New 3DS XL, and it was how I played Smash at the time. I really loved the c-nub, I liked the way it felt, to softly nudge my strongest attacks.
Never knew the circle pad pro used an IR, neat
I used to love my Circle Pad Pro, I used it to play a ton of Resident Evil Revelations back then, and even when I wasn't playing a game that used it (which was most of the time), I kept it on because the system was much more comfortable for me to hold with it on (I have big hands, your mileage may vary). You can make fun of its (subjective) ugliness and the stupidity of not just including a second stick by default all day, but for me, it was a big upgrade in terms of usability and I hugely appreciated it, nothing but good memories.
Kid Icarus Uprising controls fine. I beat it on my 2DS during my Grandpa's funeral, so y'all have a skill issue.
22:58 woah both sides of luigis mansion are the backside
8:01 I always knew it was the real Scott behind the camera in these videos but it's nice to get confirmation anyway
The Mercenaries 3D is quite addictive. But it should have been part of a bigger game.

Funny thing about Resident evil revelations is the game actually runs worse with the circle pad pro because one of the main features of the game is disabled if you have circle pad pro enabled
And thus, the New 3ds became a thing.
Honestly, oftentimes I enjoy videos like this where you just talk/ramble about something on the fly way more than the scripted main channel videos.
Great for playing Monster Hunter.
Never knew i need Scott with DankPod style video before until i watch it
