Hello! It feels so good to finally be able to share Japan and why we love it so much with family. Roy’s parents loved Japan’s countryside! What about you guys - do you like countryside travel or are you more into the city?

Hi guys just catching up on some of the content I somehow missed but it gives me a nice little playlist to spend an hour or so enjoying.
This was such an interesting and inspiring video for anyone that might be wanting to visit Japan (and also other countries come to think of it) and it shows how much freedom hiring a camper van does give you.
Factoring in a camper would definitely be nice to have as part of my ‘bucket list’ visit. I think I mentioned to you before how useful those cards looked, I’m so glad that you made them available for people to use.
I’ve been very fortunate to have traveled to so many different countries during my previous career in the Royal Navy and one thing I always made sure to do was try and learn (and remember lol 😂) a couple of simple polite phrases such as please, thank you, hello and goodbye. I think most people in any country could understand that a lot of visitors wouldn’t have a large knowledge of their native language but I believe showing a little respect to the language and especially the culture can help go a long way.
It was great to hear Roy’s parents’ thoughts and experiences and that they loved their visit and have recommended it to others.
Thank you for sharing this brilliant video with everyone, I hope more people get to see it and are also inspired to visit Japan.
The very best of wishes to all of you 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇺🇯🇵😊

Aw thank you for going back and watching some of our other videos! This certainly was a fun one to make and it was great getting a fresh perspective of Japan from first-timers. We were incredibly glad that Roy's parents came away from their trip liking Japan and understanding why we've decided to live here 😅
Yeah definitely agree that even learning a few words or phrases can go a long way. If you do come for your bucket list trip, we'd be more than happy to make any other cards with phrases that would be useful! 😊

@@RoyandAimee hiya, always happy to go back and watch more of your videos, they are genuinely interesting and enjoyable and after seeing your recent community post it’s great to see that more people are finding your channel, long may that continue.
Oh yes please the cards would most definitely help and come in handy when we hopefully get the chance to visit. In the mean time I’m grateful that you share your experiences, thoughts and insights into living in Japan.
Will catch up/re-visit a few more over the coming days. Have a great weekend guys 😊

Taken by suprise to see how brave Roy's parents were and relieved to know they had good time. It was a long time ago when I visited Shirakawago and it was in winter. I never knew how beautiful the village was in another season. Thank you so much for taking me there. I am glad to know you both are comfortable enough about the Japanese language and its culture to travel the rural areas of Japan. Best wishes to Rick and Kelly. 素敵なビデオをありがとうございます。😊

Thank you so much for watching and for the lovely comment! Hope you're able to do it in the future! Even without a campervan, it's always possible to do a small trip into the countryside (it might just be a bit more planning with bus timetables etc. 😆)

Cool parents!! Your videos on campervanning have definitely inspired me, was wondering if you could provide some info on gas costs with the van? Thanks in advance!

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee  Рік тому +1

The van Roy's parents used took diesel, which is about 140 yen/L and regular unleaded gas costs about 160-170 yen/L at the moment. So I think it usually cost them about 8000 yen to fill up the van.
Another cost in Japan is toll charges. Unfortunately every expressway has tolls 🥲 which vary but are usually around ~2000-3000 yen for a couple hours of driving. Because they were here for a month, Roy's parents could travel slowly and didn't use expressways too much so for one month, they paid around 20 000 yen.
I hope that helps! And hope you get a chance to do it, if campervanning is something you're into! 😊

By the way, your cards are so clever, I will make them to my 11 year old son because he speaks zero Japanese +English, only Portuguese, haha

My favorite part was when Roy's mother talked about the connection made between her and the women at the onsen. That experience was based on human connection and not on language. The anecdote captures something of the essence of Japanese people and of being human.

Hello! I enjoyed watching your video! Japan's countryside is must visit! Don't worry. Foreign tourists can drive a rental car as long as you have an international driver's licence. There are Macdonald's hamburger shops along inter-prefecture national roads, and you use a credit card there. You should go to Hidatakayama, which is an old town near Shirakawago.
