I have the 40mm and it really isn’t to big tbh. It looks relatively small compared to some other 40mm i have. I wear it on the black leather strap that came with it and it looks really classy and elegant. Perfect for formal occasions or funerals.
These ultra dark blacks are usually just for show and the paint degrades quickly especially in the light. Maybe this is a better quality formula but generally it seems like a silly compromise to go for darker black when the paint won’t last.
Very good and balanced review, Shane! Despite it‘s flaws, I love this watch. I have the 40 mm and love it‘s elegance. Also it is one of the few of my watches that my wife really loves, which says a lot!
The 40mm reminds me of the portable hole from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Cool watch. It would be neat to see this put this on a pilot or field watch where legibility and time at a glance are important.
I learned reading time on a watch with a Movado Homage, long before i turned into an adult. Guess a watch like this can be a sign for me turning into my second youth, especially now that i already covered half of a century (and luckily keep going...). Cheers Shane. So you’re the one making sure that there are date windows on all watches! I have to admit that I do like to have the date at hand, though the symmetry suffers from it, and the overall design.
I revisited this video because of the announced aventurine. Regrettably they chose to go for 40mm again with that one. Beyond a shadow of a doubt I should not attempt that 40mm. It looks noticeably big on you and my wrists are a bit smaller. Ultimately a minimalist aventurine dial would behave pretty much the same as the ultrablack, except for being a more appropriate and sensible choice under a reflective sapphire crystal. I never got that point of the uktrblack paint, unless under a flat hyper-AR (both sides) crystal. If they do decide to also offer a 36mm, that could be the more interesting version of this minimalist watch. I do wish they'd make it even thinner. Assuming they use a no date Miyota, that should also be achievable. (Edit: due to the ambitious price again I forgot they use the Seiko NH movement. That's still a mistake for this style and price point if you ask me). PS those dual hand finishes I know rather from Mido. I'd say there never was a more appropriate dial to apply that on. Thanks for summing up very well why I passed on this at the time. Now, a 36mm aventurine making the necessary improvements on all those points, that would be truly worth talking about. But somehow I feel that this brand cares a little more about maximising their bottom line than other micros. Just my perception.
Couple of comments: It seemed like the logo on the dial was slightly rotated to the left. Maybe just looked that way to me. I would love to see you occasionally review something more “upmarket”. You are a GREAT reviewer. Would love to hear your thoughts on some watches 1000 other guys have commented on already.
Great review, and I mostly agree. However, I have the 40mm and put it on a mesh strap which makes it less dressy and more all-round usable. From all the 10 mechanical watches I own around the 500 euro mark, this one gets the most attention. I love the minimalism. I don't like, nor need a date complication. And it's very hard to find a mechanical watch without it in this price range. Or even in any price range.
I was in the market for a new watch yesterday and usually my ‘go to’ is a Movado but an ad popped up for Venezianico and quickly caught my attention. The watches are beautiful but it seems they do cater more to men’s watches with minimal to choose from of the 36mm options. I really wanted to go with the Redentore Ultra Black 36 because of the minimalist design but in the end opted for a more feminine design of the Redentore model. So Shane, now that you own one and have worn the 36, does it seem unisex to you or leaning more masculine?
The idea with the light absorbing dial comes from H. Moser and the design is stolen from Movado. Great, Venezianico. 🤢 Most reviewers don’t even mention or notice it. So, your review is so far the best one, Shane. 🕐🍸🍸
I didn't know about the H. Moser part. Although as for Movado, my parents had a matching set of museum pieces. The really ultra-thin ones. So even though I have no interest in ever buying a Movado, the design holds a special place for me.

This watch was kinda-sorta interesting overall...until you brought in the Mojito: game over. And not just because Seiko does a better job with dauphine hands

Gotta be honest, once I was able to drag my eyes away from the neat ultra-black dial, the rest of the watch looked like something from Vostok. That is to say, not bad but definitely not worth $500
It's an odd color... When you isolate it, it comes off as matte. Which I guess is the point. There is an interesting Japanese video where some guy paints his Porsche with it. (no idea why...). I’m worried about the 48 mm L2L for my 15,5 cm wrist size.

That's a good point. Perhaps being under the crystal will help protect that, but time will tell.

Well, the rally strap was sitting on the table from a previous review, so I figured why not.
A watch without any index markers is just dumb. Even if it just had small simple ones I’d probably be interested.

I think it's more unisex. There isn't anything aggressive with the case, and the dial is sort of a blank canvas. Which is sort of the point.

I checked it out at the beginning of the year but didn't buy it. It's way overpriced for what little you get.

The black you see is limited by the camera sensor, and more importantly the screen you watch it on. It can't look blacker than that even if it is
