As a man who been wearing cologne for 25 years I would say this list is very balanced and well thought out.because as a purchaser this in my opinion is money well spent and you should be very happy.

This is also what I would do if I'm just starting again. I get why I wouldn't/didn't and so can't blame others. But getting my nose around some of the more niche(y) smells was the quickest way for me to find notes I like. It's one of the things missing I think in his list, something to challenge. Getting a sense of where fragrances can go once outside of the safer designers. Because the concept here I presume is that the newbie is marginally interested in fragrances. Otherwise they'd just buy a popular compliment getting fragrance and that's it.

as a beginner i bought a lot of zara fragrances, so by being able to experiment with clones makes it way easier to find out what you like and can pull off, so you won't waste any money going for blind buys of the originals later. example: if you buy - seoul (invictus clone) - lisboa (aqua di gio clone) - 8.0 (lacoste blanc clone) - 9.0 (valentino uomo clone) - vibrant leather (aventus clone) - gourmand leather (ultramale clone) - teahupoo (invictus aqua clone) - scent #1 (santal 33 clone) then you can basically make yourself familiar with 8 popular expensive designer scents for just 100$. and after gaining some fragrance experience with them, you can go to the originals that suit you best for the badass performance.
As a beginner, I bought a variety of fragrances that were samples/minis from FragranceNet, ForeverLux, and ScentSplit. I'll use these to narrow it down to an everyday/office scent, maybe a Blue fragrance, and then a scent for Spring/Summer, and another for Fall/Winter.

And then, for each of those categories, what would be some of the absolute top choices, regardless of price? That would be another very interesting "shopping spree" video, e.g. what total price would be reached? The video could also suggest the best beginner options for each category, but still with no price limitation, just affordability in mind, but still keeping the minimum scope of categories to consider

I kinda disagree with the video approach. As a newbie I'd rather invest 50 dollar (or even more) in some samples and then rather buy two or three full high quality bottles that you really like with the remaining amount. I regretted overspending on cheapies in the beginning that I never ended up wearing.
But a newbie is going to want full bottles because they will go through samples quickly. I think the premise was fitting and executed well. You have to go off the newbie's mentality and not your own mentality after you have been collecting for a while.
@@ll7915 Agree, first few days anything over 2 sprays can do that to a wearer, but than it stops. 3 for inside and 4 for outside and I don't get headaches now. But you did raise a great idea here. Anything stronger really is bad. This is why I hate a lot of Tom Ford's fragrances. Black Orchid for instance, waaay too large of a sillage, simply overpowering. I got Tobbaco vanille as a gift a while ago and only use it from time to time with ONE spray, otherwise I would reppel people like a skunk.
Prada carbon + ambrette 9 is a king mix. Big complement getter. Not sure how I ended up mixing the two but ambrette 9 on the skin and a single mist of carbon on the clothes is magical.

I just got into fragrance a couple months ago, after saving up money from my first job ever (I'm 16). I should've researched a little more though, because I bought 3 different bottles, not realizing they're all kinda "fresh and clean". A little more diverse scents would've been better. I got Dior Sauvage EDP 3.4oz for $125 , Versace Eros EDT 3.4oz for $48.09, and D&G Light Blue 1.3oz for $27.94. Totals to $214. After ordering I found out through Jeremy Fragrance (despite him being called unreliable) that the Light Blue Intense is better, and the Sauvage EDT is better. One thing I highly recommend if money is tough, is to use payment services like Afterpay, Klarna, Quadpay, etc. because they let you split your purchases into 4 interest-free payments (not an ad). So instead of paying the $215 at once, I paid about $50 every 2 weeks. Its not that big of a deal anymore for me, but its a great option if you're young like me and don't make much, or don't want to blow it all. Now I have a whole list of fragrances I want to own "at some point" lol. My next 3 will probably be Spicebomb Extreme, Acqua di Gio Profumo, and Bleu de Chanel
I would buy the fragrances from Pure Editions. They offer all their fragrances in small bottles of € 9,5, so for 250 USD you can virtually buy all their men's fragrances in one go. Great stuff, best fragrance collection ever seen as far as I've been going around.
As a newbie, you'd rather spend 1/3 of the money on samples off Reddit. So many different scents and quality brands/houses to choose from. Try them out, find what you like and dislike and the money you have left over, get the bottles that you really want. You don't really need more than 5 high quality bottles to fill the seasons or occasions and a lot are versatile that can fill the need. For the cheaper bottles, I'd say sure go for a blind buy. Try before you buy.

How about you make a little shelf and keep the bottle you are talking about in the frame all the time? Right in front of the camera to the right or left. I find myself searching back and forth trying to read the bottle when you are waiving it around.

For $250 I would buy creed himalaya($150) or PDM percival; and either spice bomb, stronger with you, or la nuit de lhomme with the other $100, or something heavy and oriental with some oud for winter
if I had $250 to spend, not including stuff that was gifted to me also not including the land of the free gift box I bought, I've spent about $180 so far on fragrances, just so I have more than one thing to wear. I got 60 ml of sauvage edp $105 ( I paid retail) 125 ml of cool water edt $20 two pack of 1 oz mr burberry (60ml) $35 EDT ( I liked the EDP) then a .17oz of versace eros to see if I even like it for 7 bucks. If I had to go with the 50 ml minimum I still have plenty of money to spend, if I don't want designer. Depending on how i like the eros, I might get the eros flame because it's discontinued

@@centurionl I agree i get a solid 2 hours of pretty loud projection and then the vanilla/amber/tobacco dry down sticks around for 6 more hours at least. Spray it on clothes and can smell it next day.
Yea Shock is definitely one of the best bank for the buck fragrances I've ever owned. Tobacco, slightly oriental, warm and comforting for cool autumn nights. And it really does stick around for a while. If I wear it to work I can still smell it after a 8-10 hour shift.
Creed Amouage Parfums de Marley I'd start there. Then I'll move to more of niche/designer grey area with the private lines from designers, particularly Bvlgari's, Tom Ford, & Armani's. Lastly, & optionally, I'll hunt of a proper oud fragrance: Nabeel Oud Vetiver & Rasasi Borruz line in particular.

Guerlain L´Homme Ideal Cologne was also one of my first fragrance purchases. It´s a must in any fragrance collection.

The one edt was the scent that started my interest in collecting fragrances
I just got into fragrance a couple months ago, after saving up money from my first job ever (I'm 16). I should've researched a little more though, because I bought 3 different bottles, not realizing they're all kinda "fresh and clean". A little more diverse scents would've been better. I got Dior Sauvage EDP 3.4oz for $125 , Versace Eros EDT 3.4oz for $48.09, and D&G Light Blue 1.3oz for $27.94. Totals to $214. After ordering I found out through Jeremy Fragrance (despite him being called unreliable) that the Light Blue Intense is better, and the Sauvage EDT is better. One thing I highly recommend if money is tough, is to use payment services like Afterpay, Klarna, Quadpay, etc. because they let you split your purchases into 4 interest-free payments (not an ad). So instead of paying the $215 at once, I paid about $50 every 2 weeks. Its not that big of a deal anymore for me, but its a great option if you're young like me and don't make much, or don't want to blow it all. Now I have a whole list of fragrances I want to own "at some point" lol. My next 3 will probably be Spicebomb Extreme, Acqua di Gio Profumo, and Bleu de Chanel

Just bought the Lalique Encre Noire Sport in South Africa! Best price I could find here was the equivalent of $35 though
I would buy the fragrances from Pure Editions. They offer all their fragrances in small bottles of € 9,5, so for 250 USD you can virtually buy all their men's fragrances in one go. Great stuff, best fragrance collection ever seen as far as I've been going around.
As a newbie, you'd rather spend 1/3 of the money on samples off Reddit. So many different scents and quality brands/houses to choose from. Try them out, find what you like and dislike and the money you have left over, get the bottles that you really want. You don't really need more than 5 high quality bottles to fill the seasons or occasions and a lot are versatile that can fill the need. For the cheaper bottles, I'd say sure go for a blind buy.
Try before you buy.

then a .17oz of versace eros to see if I even like it for 7 bucks.
If I had to go with the 50 ml minimum I still have plenty of money to spend, if I don't want designer. Depending on how i like the eros, I might get the eros flame because it's discontinued

@@centurionl I agree i get a solid 2 hours of pretty loud projection and then the vanilla/amber/tobacco dry down sticks around for 6 more hours at least. Spray it on clothes and can smell it next day.
Yea Shock is definitely one of the best bank for the buck fragrances I've ever owned. Tobacco, slightly oriental, warm and comforting for cool autumn nights. And it really does stick around for a while. If I wear it to work I can still smell it after a 8-10 hour shift.

I'd start there. Then I'll move to more of niche/designer grey area with the private lines from designers, particularly Bvlgari's, Tom Ford, & Armani's.
Lastly, & optionally, I'll hunt of a proper oud fragrance: Nabeel Oud Vetiver & Rasasi Borruz line in particular.
I'd go so far as to say you'll do really well sticking only to Tom Ford, Creed and Amouage, lots of variety and superb quality
