    Hey Apryl! I dappled in some paper clay for a minute & although I loved it, its sooooooo light when completed. Didn't get a "solid feel" to my BJD if that makes sense? But how do you prevent all the extra BULK with polymer, even tho its hollow? Im looking for middle ground I suppose. Thinking of buying your BJD Tutorial again (been a good 10 years since I got it last) & remember loving it, but need a refresher course lol....
    Smiles,

    I really wish you *had* shown the little details :/ This is useful, but the way you sort of skim over how you made the lips look so real and the eyes sort of makes it hard to completely learn from it - you get the gist of what the method is, but if like me, you really struggle with making faces, then it kind of makes it harder to learn.
    Other than that, really good video :)

      Okay, thank you! :D Sorry if I came across as rude before, that wasn't my intention ^~^' I'm struggling to find tutorials that help, so I'm trying to piece together tips on how to sculpt better from multiple videos xD The things I find hardest are lips and eyes haha, I've tried three times and each attempted ended up looking like some mangled excuse for a human XDD

      @aprylian  7 років тому

      I understand. I have more videos on UA-cam that might help. You can take some scrap clay and practice on that until you make something you are happy with and then use the good clay. :)

    Hello I just found your channel and loved this video! I found it very informative. I have a couple questions.. 1. Is that a polymer clay that you bake? I probably missed you saying if it was or not because it’s 3 am lol. 2. Do you have any advice for sculpting an animal face? I’ve been trying to sculpt a wolf and am not having much luck at all. Have tried DAS and Polymer. I’ve watched a loooot of videos but no one really goes through it step by step like you did for this one

    • @aprylian
      @aprylian  6 років тому

      Yes I am using polymer clay. I don't do animal sculpts but I can advise you to have wolf pictures in front of you to guide you while you sculpt. Some videos here might help: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=sculpt+wolf+face

    I subbed, but I wanna ask something... What do you do to make the face smooth? I use premo but when I do a "pancake" or add pieces to the head, it still has lines after blending it for 10 mins and then I have to sand the face.

    • @aprylian
      @aprylian  7 років тому

      What clay are you using? My clays are easy to blend. www.makingfairies.com/collections/clays

    • @Iv3y_Lamar
      @Iv3y_Lamar 7 років тому

      I use Craftsmart clay. I haven't seen Prosculpt at Michael's, hobby lobby, etc. However, I have tried using Living Doll and Premo, but craft smart is super similar to both brands and I get the bigger pack(440g) for about $2 less. I've been looking for tutorials or books on sculpting (ball-jointed) dolls or figures, but none are at my library and some are hard to find at Barne's & Noble.

    • @aprylian
      @aprylian  7 років тому +2

      If you are having trouble blending you should try prosculpt, at least try a sample piece. www.makingfairies.com/collections/clays/products/living-doll-sample-4-oz-baby

      Thank you. After you take the wooden stick out you dig out or drill from the top of the head to the bottom. It is easier to do before you bake but you can also do this after. My tutorial on www.MakingFairies.com tells you in detail.

    Beautiful work, I create polymer animals and prefer to make my own eyes, I Love the look of the uv resin vs just painting the eye but I find the uv resin darkens really bad when you bake the sculpt, do you have this problem or is there a tip or trick to making them not darken?? (I use the Lisa Pavelka resin right now)

    • @aprylian
      @aprylian  6 років тому

      That is the resin I use but it does not darken. Maybe you are baking too high? I bake at 275 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also put the resin after you have finished baking the whole doll.

    • @debbyk9502
      @debbyk9502 6 років тому

      thank you, I actually baked at 270 for about 30min.. and, I may have the answer... I do believe it may be a leakage of color from the iris of the eye! I will be experimenting a bit more to see if that is in deed the case, I am just VERY grateful that I did not discover this issue after I had completed the commissioned sculpt!! ty for you very quick response!!
