ah so basically we have long spined sea urchins along tasmania's east coast, which are capable of overgrazing kelp and causing areas of bare rock known as urchin barrens. Large crays can control urchin populations and prevent urchin populations from getting large enough to create barrens. Once the barrens have formed though it's very difficult for them to revert to healthy reefs naturally...
