Thank you, your video solved our issue after migrating to Microsoft 365, at least it works in PowerShell, and I will test on the printer next week. What I missed is, first I didn't use App word, second by default SMTP authentication is turned off on the mailbox. Hope this helps for whoever need it.

For the SMTP Relay option, can you use an SSL Cert for the Mail Connector instead of a Public IP? Trying to configure smtp services in IIS w/o a Public IP. Maybe you still need that for the SPF too? Thank you.

Is there any way to mitigate direct send method only for an ip-range ? I mean in our company we have hibryd configuration and we need direct send can be used only for devices inside the company , so I wonder y we could disable direct send method from our Tenant or al least mitigate ip addresses.

Can we use shared emailbox account to send notification emails to anyone? A sharedmailbox doesn't has username or password and smtp capabilites.

I think the portion on the STMP Relay is wrong. If you send using the MX record it is not using the relay. The relay should be an internal server IP that's doing the sending,
Can you use Direct send and SMTP relay together or does it have to be one or the other ?
Also, if you do not want to authenticate I was reading that SMTP direct or SMTP relay does not require authentication, Is that correct ?
You don't need to authenticate for smtp relay.
How did you generate the app password to use option 1? It is not explained on the video.
Therefore, we highly recommend that you disable SMTP AUTH in your Exchange Online organization, and enable it only for the accounts (that is, mailboxes) that still require it
So there is no need to set the transportconfig SmtpClinetAuthenticationDisabled to False
Is this still relevant in 2024? Having a hard time getting an on-prem SMTP Relay set up and I don’t remember having so much trouble. Trying to use hmail, or Windows SMTP.

Why would you use an 365 E3 license to for this job? You could use a M365 Business Basics license for a lot less per month.

One thing i have observed in Direct send and SMTP Relay, you said they dont requires to have a mailbox, it can just be a email address, but we are still entering the password of email address, can you please explain?

Hi, due to a recent change in M365 product, admins are not able to enable connectors. You need to create support ticket with MS along with a business justification to enable connector in your tenant.
