Girls built up fast here in WNC and the flow is on heavy. Glad your girls have you.
I tell people of your very smart brood breaks you practice.

In the Appalachians in the US. The joys of raising bees in a temperate rain forest. We did get a nice Black Locust flow, but our primary flow is Tulip Poplar, and it pretty much rained every day during the Poplar flow. But this is a hobby for me, so it is what it is. It does set us up for Sumac for the next month or so, but it isn't as prolific.

Well in Australia we have had a very bad season flat out scraping up 500 kg at 45 colonies . Normally make that in the spring.😪

Mine were not strong enough for the flow to begin with and then when they were the weather got cloudy and temperatures dropped so much the plants did not produce nectar. Unfortunately it was during the main spring flow when temperatures dropped. So had to feed until now. They just started putting in some thyme nectar in the brood. So hopefully at least no more feeding now. Also mine the queens shut down laying so am finding not as many new bees to older bees this year.

It's a very early year. I had better winters than this spring. Yes they grown big and eaten a lot. I think I'll cage them very early this year. It's the only way to make them collect some surplus for them and fill bee bread in the frames. If not it will be a summer of syrup and patties. I'll rader test some ideas.
I double caged a 20 hives test last summer and left those queens to lay until few weeks ago. I'm thinking about some broodless splits if the opportunity presents after caging.
I hope you get something from chestnut or some other flow

Why are you not extracting in new building Richard?

Hi by Dan, because the new building isn’t completed yet. There is multiple reasons why firstly because I can’t get electricity connected officially to the place until the infrastructure is in inside and I can’t get the electricity supply inspected until that infrastructure is fitted in place but I can’t get that done until I’ve got my grant through and I’m waiting for the grant commission to give me the yes or no is other factors as well, but long story short, it was just easier just to wait a little bit longer to get everything done and then I’ll be in there for next year extracting and putting into pots inside the new Honey house
