- Tribute to China's military the People's Libertion Army, which is nowhere near being rightfully considered a threat to the national security of the U.S. or any of its allies.
Taking a look a global military spendings. China's annual military expenditure stands at ~59 billion USD (#4); and Russia, China's most powerfuly allie, spends only an annual of ~40 billion USD (#7). While the U.S. spends ~583 billion USD (#1), France: ~75 billion USD (#2), and the U.K. spends ~69 billion USD (#3). Technology wise, China's has a hell of a lot of military hardware that're backwards technology less advacned than what the former Soviets had in the 1980's.
If there's anything that the U.S. and the NATO powers may find threatening about China, it's their vision of World Domination, not national security.
