I'm an Aussie. Afghanistan's performance at the tournament blew me away. They were very, very good in the field. Very attacking team. Can't wait to see them graduate to test cricket.
South Africa can't play Test cricket for 30 years because of an apartheid government we never went to war with, yet everyone is lauding the Afghanistan team governed by the Taliban. Spare me.
The difference between the Australian cricket culture, and say, the English, is that pre-tournament Marnus, who averages 40 in India in ODIs and is arguably a generational batsman in Tests, was saying he didn't deserve to be in the squad, whereas Ben Stokes who hadn't played for ages and had self-excluded via his "retirement" was parachuted in on pure talent and potential. A spot in an Australian international sporting team and to represent your country is one of the greatest honours you can be given, but it's earned through consistent work and not taken lightly. Bringing in a player last minute like Stokes was, although he may be the best player they have, is terrible for culture as it says that there are some players that are anointed and more important than the rest of the team.
The culture issues in English cricket is well documented, as it the unwillingness of anyone at a senior level to acknowledge that it exists let alone do anything about it.
Yes , Evan, but I'm 65yo ,I watch the big bash adverts , big bash cricket when you would get dropped for skying the ball ,, but let me tell you something , this is why the art of batting is lost , try and make a ton picking gaps , and playing on mongrel pitches , I said to my mate , after the first official 50/50 game , congratulations to the ACB , ALL ,you've just invented Base Ball , oh well , don't watch slogging , unless it's actually Base Ball
Don't watch cricket if you feel that way about it, they aren't as worried getting hit because of the protection they have today. They wouldn't be playing scoops & other outrageous shots. They use to go back and across but mostly step forward now and many pull off the front foot now because of the protection. The game has changed, but for the better or haven't you seen how close teams are getting to each other. Someone mentioned Afghanistan & the Netherlands & the improvement is of minor teams is amazing. 20/20 & 50 overs has given players a chance from minows to play & learn from the games best, the IPL for instance & as l said you can see the improvement. Maybe Root forgot to add that when he made that comment? Or is it just typical arrogance from a group who still think they’re better than they really were?
You make your own luck, the pure fact of the matter was India CHOKED on the big stage and Australia know how to win the big pressure games that count. Go Aussies.........🏏🏏🏏🏏🏏🏏🏏🏏🏏🏏
I liked the format, for what it’s worth. Totally fair, no “group of death” etc and allowed The Netherlands and Afghanistan to show their wares. Those two teams were a breath of fresh air. I felt like the tournament had a slow burn leading to a crescendo. But then, I am Australian.
Yeh it was a good lead in - btw crescendo is a gradual increase in volume so you can’t lead up to a gradual increase. You lead up to a climax - so many people misuse this music term. Now you know what it actually means - tell your friends!
I watched some of the Indian media post final game coverage. It would appear from the Indian media analysis, there was no other team or competitor other than India. In fact you would not even know that Australia had won. Disappointing.
I love the passion of Indian supporters and until recently had wished some of it could rub off on home supporters too (Indian fans are normally noisier than Aus fans at games here). But the WC has changed my position - the absolute partisan blinkered support and blatant lack of respect for any team other than India, and inability to cope with losing is disturbing, infantile, and pathetic. Yes, support your team with gusto, but the reaction to the WC final has been embarrassing.
@@cmadelaide56 Lmao. When Indian fans behave just like Aussies and other white nations do, we suddenly are "partisan" and insufferable. Just curb your racism already. We don't need lessons from you on how to conduct ourselves.
Most of the Indian fans I’ve seen commenting have been heartbroken but proud of their team and accepting that they lost to the better team on the day… a few outliers I’ve seen claiming that since India won every game except the final, are the real champions… and one or two idiots claiming that it was pure luck on Australia’s part due to winning the toss and getting best use of batting conditions (they refuse to acknowledge that India would have batted first anyway)
In Australia in the winter we play all different sports; Aussie rules, football, league, union etc but in the summer we all come together to play cricket. It’s the sport that unites the nation and the sport that is most in the heart of the nation. In England, it’s football that plays that role.
It staggers me to hear the number of commentators who seek every opportunity to diminish the Aussie contribution and effort. Possibly an admission of envy and Aussie supremacy. The garbage of the Aussie side being just average in the field. I'll break the news to all those biased and blind observers. Australia has built their cricket culture since the days of Ian Chappel on attitude and excellence in the field. This final of the WC was won in the field with notable contributions from Dave Warner, Marnus Labuchane and Travis Head. The turning point came early in the game with Head's catch to dismiss Rohit. At that point, the Indian team was largely mentally dismantled. Both the bowling and batting efforts in this match were simply closing out time in the game, for it was won on the back of the Aussie fielding efforts.
Funny how white people don't feel that way when pitches are designed to suit their style of cricket and only feel that way when they are spin friendly. Just admit it you are so entitled in your racism that you by default think things should be your way and when it's not, you have a problem ya clown
My moment of the world cup is Modi walking into the India dressing room after final and telling Rohit not to cry as people are watching and then Dravid that, " You played well, but..." and then releasing the video of it.... 😂😂😂....nothing ever got funnier than that.

Yes, there won’t be many teams who’ll take much out of this tournament. It’s one the likes of England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will want to forget and bury. In terms of making progress, Afghanistan showed they’re on an upwards curve while SA and NZ just can’t seem to find whatever it is to go beyond the semis or runners up as NZ have been in recent tournaments. Despite playing some great cricket, right now India will be feeling pretty flat about the whole tournament.

Love the discussion and the breadth of the different aspect you are discussing. On the World Cup, I have followed pretty avidly, and on its completion I would surmised it as enjoyable, but devoid of any particular emotion, which I think belies the idea of the event itself. I'm not sure that its because of it being in India (and India being so dominant until it counted), or the event was too long (probably financial) or the structure, however I do feel that the lack of jeopardy in most of the first 30 odd games made those games pretty irrelevant in effect. Pretty much all sporting codes that have a World Cup event have more jeopardy built in - more knockout games etc. and this imo has to be the way the tournament has to go, otherwise it will cement the view that 50 over internationals are dead and buried.

Phil, at about the 18th minute you mentioned the 'baggy green'. One can to eBay etc and find 'genuine' (hint: they're not) baggy greens advertised. They cannot be purchased from official cricket merchandise vendors. Those who want a 'baggy green' need to be selected to play Test cricket for Australia: to date, 466 men and 183 women. Mystique!
Super Six to suite England team because you can go to semis by getting wins over lower order teams and in the semis/finals just fluke to win or win over boundary count to win a World Cup 😂😂😂😂. A True world champion will face all teams and beat all teams. Australia beat South Africa and India which was lost to both the teams in league group
I personally think the 50 over format is the best format, it involves abit of everything! I enjoy test cricket but do feel it’s abit long nowadays as you just don’t have the time to watch the whole game live anymore! The t20 doesn’t involve enough strategy and tactics , the World Cup is the 50 over World Cup to be honest and I think in England the ECB SHOULD TRY TO grow the 50 over domestic competition!
As an Aussie, the test match format will always be the most important format. T20 has zero tactics, ODI cricket has some tactics but test cricket has all the tactics. Things like do I bat again or enforce the follow on, being concious of the time and how the pitch will play on the 4th or 5th days, declarations, etc. It's got the lot.
As an Australian I enjoyed this World Cup enormously. Watching Australia play of course, but also India a superb side who played a supurb series. The behaviour of the crowd at the final however was disappointing: Booing the umpires at the end, remaining silent at Head's century, going silent and leaving early when the Indian team’s defeat seemed inevitable. Fans chanting 'Rohit, Rohit' when Australia were handed the trophy. All of which demonstrated a disrespect for the players and the game that I found disturbing and unprecedented. I understand the disappointment of the Indian fans after all the hype and expectation but this was a very bad look for India in front of an international audience of billions. It spoilt the series for me. It was a childish display of petulance that has no place in cricket. I expected more of India.
WRT Geoff’s email & politics - “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” I think Pat said that post match presser ..... wait ... sorry, no, that was actually Gandhi ... carry on ...
Hey lads, really like the chilled approach to crickets, sometimes ambiguous metaphor " cricket isn't just a game, its a beast that we Aussies look forward to every summer, rain hale or shine. with the ever-present ABC radio coverage. (Australia's summer of cricket) It's like a warm blanket on a rainy day or a nice memory in the shed with grandad getting some folksy wisdom from down on the farm. Cricket in Aus goes back to Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson, filling our heads with heroic tales of wild headed fast bowlers coming outa the bush and giving it to the city boys. Don Bradman sticking it to the old dart. Hence the attitude Aussie kids grow up with; " i want to play for Australia (at some point every kid does) Bowl fast and rip heads off, and smash tinnies and 6s. Its in our blood. I remember as a kid when rod marsh (for memory i could be wrong) opened up the Aus cricket Acadamy, which basically spawned generations of brilliant cricketers. What i remember was the other country's coming out, and being showed through the complex, as it was for its time, world leading. Then about 2 years later i remember playing a game for a particular side and the opposition were all bar 3 west Indian; so basically, alot or most of the worlds cricketing nations were sending there youth to the academy, and they were being seconded out to good tough cricket districts while not at the academy. It was awesome to say the least. everyone got to meet amazing human's 1st and great cricketers to boot. (all the while they also created their own Acadamy's) As they say lads " you are only as strong as your weakest player" bring em all along and have fun.
if playing for country means less in england it’s probs because the national team is a composite construction, regularly featuring boers, rhodesians, new zealanders, australians, west indians, and even irishmen.
The thing you must remember about the Australian attitude is the Have a go mentality. We can take Australia losing, but we can’t take our sporting teams not having a go. If you’re cheating to win (like sandpaper gate) it is even worse. By cheating you are not having a go, that is why the Australian team copped it more from Australian fans than anywhere else for sandpaper gate.
It is intereting to know. The pitch preperatoon is in the hands of ICC Good. Ensures neutrality. But two sides are to play. The pitch can be prepared in several ways To suit spinners Fast bowlers Batters only Then, what arr the steps the curator takes Who is pleased more than the other Agreed other than a world tournament if between two countries the host countrys right to prepare the wickets, according to their wish is ok But in a world cup tournament, fair to all equally, should be the criteria
I see the ICC has awarded the 2031 World Cup to India and Bangladesh. The centre of global cricket power has certainly been fully acknowledged and cemented. What non-Indian fans will look forward with eager anticipation to that ‘pseudo-international’ , nationalist political event after the experience of the last one?
Ability towards an indepth analysis in sports, helps to broaden change, new thinking, etc. No matter, not only in cricket in perhaps many other competative sports Could be even of another fellow brother or sister My thoughts are towards the better not bad or worse It will interest only cricket lovers. Not those who will not be interested, beyond Australia won, and is the chapter end Australia though terribly the underdogs, can also turn tables on any given day The thinking goes beyond the game on play. The strength and weakneses of the opponents and of themselves Their are missings Massive ground support only to India Perhaps even a clap or a cheer to Australia was crtainly not to be. Cunnings reacted. to the negative factor. As the skipper made a public statement. His wish was to finally silence the crowd He did it 10000 and over Immagine the pin drop silence towards the end For sure that earlier words of cunnings about the silencing of the crowd, boosted the Ausies and had a negative effect on India A gamble a risk, was in the horizon India being put into bat. More so when Indian skipper said, it was his intention to bat, had Sharma won the toss Cunnings, it was a gamble. Specially against a side on paper, under any condition, to get 300 or more was for the asking Cunnings had a plan having done an indepth study Hence with utmost confidence that he took the gamble. He was proved absolutely correct Cunnings individually came to this match with much confidence on himself. Two initially lost Bounced back though not at all plain sailing He played an anchor role as a late order batsman to help Maxwell to knock up a one legged double century and win a doomed match for Aussies as it looked. This uncertainty made otherwise, was perhaps a boost to Australian confidence and approach the final, on a positive note. Cunnings followed it with another to follow Ensured through a late order partnership to topple South Africa The above hard fought achievents only gave that extra energy to Aussies To India, so plainsailing it was, they underestimated the Aussies and played penalty for it Failures struggles, fight to the bitter end was Australia Finally it all paid huge dividends
Are Australia the most dominant national team in world sport? The only comparison that comes to mind in terms of the meaning to a nation is probably the All Blacks in rugby - but they are nothing like as dominant in the world cup as Australia are in cricket. Any thoughts?

Why don't you guys put "bias toward englad" in your channel name.
Mystique!
Good 2 hear “Chaos” got on it after the game.
(all the while they also created their own Acadamy's)
As they say lads " you are only as strong as your weakest player" bring em all along and have fun.
Love our dear 💓 coach johnny tott
J Trott- sour grapes my friend.
if playing for country means less in england it’s probs because the national team is a composite construction, regularly featuring boers, rhodesians, new zealanders, australians, west indians, and even irishmen.
How are England's big players?
The thing you must remember about the Australian attitude is the Have a go mentality. We can take Australia losing, but we can’t take our sporting teams not having a go. If you’re cheating to win (like sandpaper gate) it is even worse. By cheating you are not having a go, that is why the Australian team copped it more from Australian fans than anywhere else for sandpaper gate.
Piers Morgan Crying
whats ben done to himself?
That’s why matches should be fixed. At least the losing team has a chance.
It is intereting to know. The pitch preperatoon is in the hands of ICC Good. Ensures neutrality. But two sides are to play. The pitch can be prepared in several ways To suit spinners Fast bowlers Batters only Then, what arr the steps the curator takes Who is pleased more than the other
Agreed other than a world tournament if between two countries the host countrys right to prepare the wickets, according to their wish is ok But in a world cup tournament, fair to all equally, should be the criteria
Too much unnecessary cricket! Then you ask why players are burnt out!
Ability towards an indepth analysis in sports, helps to broaden change, new thinking, etc. No matter, not only in cricket in perhaps many other competative sports Could be even of another fellow brother or sister My thoughts are towards the better not bad or worse
It will interest only cricket lovers. Not those who will not be interested, beyond Australia won, and is the chapter end
Australia though terribly the underdogs, can also turn tables on any given day
The thinking goes beyond the game on play. The strength and weakneses of the opponents and of themselves
Their are missings Massive ground support only to India Perhaps even a clap or a cheer to Australia was crtainly not to be. Cunnings reacted. to the negative factor. As the skipper made a public statement. His wish was to finally silence the crowd He did it 10000 and over Immagine the pin drop silence towards the end
For sure that earlier words of cunnings about the silencing of the crowd, boosted the Ausies and had a negative effect on India
A gamble a risk, was in the horizon India being put into bat. More so when Indian skipper said, it was his intention to bat, had Sharma won the toss Cunnings, it was a gamble. Specially against a side on paper, under any condition, to get 300 or more was for the asking
Cunnings had a plan having done an indepth study Hence with utmost confidence that he took the gamble. He was proved absolutely correct
Cunnings individually came to this match with much confidence on himself. Two initially lost
Bounced back though not at all plain sailing He played an anchor role as a late order batsman to help Maxwell to knock up a one legged double century and win a doomed match for Aussies as it looked. This uncertainty made otherwise, was perhaps a boost to Australian confidence and approach the final, on a positive note.
Cunnings followed it with another to follow Ensured through a late order partnership to topple South Africa
The above hard fought achievents only gave that extra energy to Aussies To India, so plainsailing it was, they underestimated the Aussies and played penalty for it Failures struggles, fight to the bitter end was Australia Finally it all paid huge dividends
Australia only has 2 states and territories out of 7 that play rugby so not so much of of difference
What biscuits does Ben munch during the podcast?
🤣🤣
Australians are serial winners, because we have the MONGREL DOG in us.
The whole world knows who the real ODI world champion is - it's India!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
India might be the ODI champions but do uou remember the smashing Australia gave India in the 2003 final? Ponting put India to the sword.
is something wrong with Phil Walker? ADHD?
I'm adhd. I move exactly the same. It's relentless 😂

He looked bored when Ben was rambling at the start.
I do the same

Are Australia the most dominant national team in world sport? The only comparison that comes to mind in terms of the meaning to a nation is probably the All Blacks in rugby - but they are nothing like as dominant in the world cup as Australia are in cricket. Any thoughts?
Aus play rugby in 2 states and territories out of seven otherwise we'd be better
@@johnmurrihy5365 - and New Zealand have what, 4 million people in the whole country? 🙂
I think South Africa is the new dominant force of rugby.
