one cute detail in the neighbor part is how every character is looking somewhere or something (looking at the butterfly, the letter or just looking to the side) but Wally is looking directly at us
I also like that it has a “out of character” page. I think that’s something more of these things should have something that let’s people see a start and know a place where it’s not a game and the author/artist can talk about their work outside the isolated chamber of the project.
I know, right? The illustrations are beautifully designed, and genuinely made me want to read a wholesome little comic series or watch a cartoon of these characters.
It certainly elevates the work, to say the least. Also, with the promise of the neighbourhood twisting into something unrecognizable, along with the promise of themes of derealization, mental health and isolation, I'm wondering if dementia's gonna end up in the mix? 'cause dementia is some SCARY shit.
@@twindrill2852 could you please provide a link to the artist's art page? Just looking at the art on the Welcome Home pages just makes me wanna see what else they've made, it's so lovely
What’s even more insane to me is the creator is a college student. Whether in their 20s or still a teen, this is insanely impressive for someone also in school
@@jaymattel I think the point of the comment is that the creator is younger and made this while dealing with how college is really draining physically, emotionally, and creatively. That's a hard rut to get out of especially when working so hard to create something while also dealing with stress, studying, school projects, lectures,Etc. I'm not trying to sound rude or argumentative, hopefully just sharing some clarification!
Life advice: there is no "professional standard" of art. "Art" and "professionalism" do not mix. You're either hired (out of dumb luck) or you're not. The major workplaces would just rather hire someone's son (qualified or not) than trust anyone outside their familiar work circle. If you have an older peer criticizing your art and ideas, and just keep saying things like "you're art is no good, you need to go to art school, etc etc." chances are, your art and ideas are "just not for them" and he's an ill-tempered, self-elitist shitbag who is forced to tolerate you My bastard was an older guy who just worked at my dad's business. He just brings up the likes of Picasso and Quentin Tarantino just to make an unfair comparison. He was also someone who openly hated things like Spongebob and One Piece, but puts Neon Genesis on a pedestal. Looking back, this was just a bastard I had the misfortune of being stuck with.
"Welcome Home" is a lot more off-putting than your average "kid's media horror" project because the show genuinely feels like something that would have gone to air and been popular among kids. There's no obviously spooky or weird designs for the characters that you'd typically see in even the more thoughtful projects. This looks like something I would have wanted to watch as a kid, and that just makes this a scarier trap.
@@Sonne.IsFeral Yes, but I'd argue it's been to varying degrees of success. And even then, something can ostensibly be a horror thing pretending to be kids media that succeeds at being scary but not at looking like kids' media. Look at FNAF, for example: it's spooky, sure, but looking at the animatronics for the first generation of that game, I don't believe for a second that those would be things at a children's pizzeria and arcade.
@@Cuiasodo They would not endless people could find a way to make them more freindly and better looking. But either way this is gonna be another creepy things thats most likely gonna have crazy lore
Whoever draws these, LOVES to draw them and does so very well. I highly respect the artistic integrity and will to do so much of it. The puppet characters are painfully adorable, just very heart-melting and joy-filling, but, whole thing being horror themed just gets me even more giddy to see where it goes.
You're right, you can just see the love and care in the illustrations. I was hooked from the second I saw the Welcome Home page. Visually stunning with bright, happy colours and bright, happy faces that have so much personality. I want my bedroom painted with a mural of the characters and designs, I want to look at it all day every day because it's just so darn charming and cheerful and as you said, the horror theme makes it all the more fascinating and exciting. I'm in love with Welcome Home and I can't wait to continue experiencing the secrets it holds.
Not to mention being able to draw something that walks the line so perfectly between kids show, and dark underlying horror is something extremely hard to do on purpose. That's a sign of serious talent, and dedication
I just love that it took so long into the video for us to get to something really directly sinister and creepy. Everything else was just kind of unsettling.
Me too! It’s more effective than a lot of typical horror for me, it gets under my skin too. It’s even worse after looking at such a fun and colorful page full of puppets that look straight out of my childhood
The character designs are so appealing and interesting. They really feel like a complete cast with lots of personality. In universe and out they were made with love.
I feel like a lot of horror stuff that's based on the "cute piece of media is actually evil!" premise forget to actually put a lot of effort into the character designs and making them feel like they're actually what they're supposed to be. I love the Walten Files but it takes a heaping cup of suspension of disbelief to believe that any of those designs were actually meant to appeal to children.
@@TheAntiGravityMaster To be fair to the Walten Files, it's based off of the old Chuck e. Cheese animatronics which did not age well. You can find footage of those things malfunctioning all over youtube.
I really hope that the "Uh oh! Looks like you wandered too far away from Home! [You should head back]" gets included into the actual canon/lore in some way in this series. It's a great error message and page, but it really seems like another cool addition to this story.
Reminds me of the poem included in the about page... "Your house is a mirror of just who you are, a reflection that tells you to never stray far"......
A part of me genuinely wants this show to be real. It looks so wholesome... and despite that I've never seen this before in my entire life it somehow still feels really nostalgic.
I would that think that feeling mainly comes from the fact that the aesthetic and designs are heavily Jim Henson inspired. So if you’ve grown up with Muppets and Sesame Street, you’ve basically grown up with this show hehe
I’m calling it now: this story is going to be an exploration of how childhood media can act as a guiding hand for kids suffering in abusive households. That, and how the trauma itself can warp those happy memories into something that can hurt as much as it heals. I’m so fucking excited to see this story unfold regardless
Hmm, how nice, a show that was called "Welcome Home?" Why does that sound familiar? A few minutes later: I remember this....I used to watch this everyday..... A voice: "If you remember, its probably inside of you. And it hurts." W-What?! Oh geez. I'm hearing things..... A few hours later: Where am I? I want to get away from here....I want to go home! The voice: "This IS your home." W-what? The voice: "THIS is your home." My imagination is sparked.
@@beksy4206 I like the concept you have! The only thing I would do differently is pace the shock value bit a bit slower. I think you should work on more of these! 😆
As a survivor of childhood abuse, I would love to see this topic tackled in more media. It's something so painful yet prominent in many lives, and to be able to confront and discuss it in a healthy way is integral to the recovery process. Media like this can be very relatable and beneficial. It can also be delightfully horrifying in fiction.
@@CamScam18 I would really love to see it discussed as well! Horror fiction like this is the perfect medium for the sort of story that not only confronts the existence of the issue but offers an honest depiction of healing and growth after the fact. A lot of media that uses CSA as a plot point neglects to incorporate any discussion of the healing process, which just sort of sucks. There is life after trauma, and it's just as worthy of exploration.
I love how on the first page Watchy's guestbook comment goes "Hey Wally I hope you’re cool and not super evil that’d be a real bummer" and there's a crying smiley face on it :')
My first instinct with the image of Wally with his hand out in Home was not that he was worshiping it, but that he was *controlling* it. To me, that explains why Home's eyes are darting around frantically and the oozing/crying. The image from Clown's page of Wally controlling what I assume is Barnaby with puppet strings supports the control interpretation.
Not only is this a fun spooky project, this is also like a genuine passion project and mini-art-portfolio by a talented creator. This is what happens when you put horror in the hands of an *artist.*
Hilarious immature troll on the internet wasting time and effort on useless typing to insult each other over long distances. What a beautiful thing the internet has become.
If you read the descriptions of the characters, there are details that are weird and out of place. I noticed while reading Barnaby's that the neighbors seem very cruel, "Barnaby's segments were akin to stand up, often being met with booing, clapping, or having things thrown at him by his fellow neighbors", and Poppy's description, "she is rarely ever seen outside her house typically being visited by neighbors instead" and is scared of appliances. I thought it was strange, maybe some of these will come into play later.
oh yeah i could see this playing a role, maybe even little 'games' or something. I have been recording or writing down all the things I could about it lol
I feel like the part about Barnaby isn't exactly true.. he's depicted as the favorite by a lot of residents but he gets things thrown at him? Doesn't make sense
Also howdy saying the weird thing about eating a dog and cutting off its legs (Barnaby) or someone getting eaten in a house full bloodhounds (beagles are bloodhounds- Barnaby)
But then why does Howdy have so much beef towards Barnaby? That’s my question, since it was also stated on Howdy’s bio that Barnaby is one of his favorite customers. So I guess he likes him as well to some degree? Idk
Clown's use of colour is really good, even disregarding the designs and puppets. Not necessarily the rainbows, but the careful blending of aesthetics makes the entire website/aesthetic feel like a delicious fruit smoothie.
It baffles me people are literally blaming you about people in the "fandom" harrassing and bugging clown. A video was bound to be made at any point, and i think you did an amazing job with this. My curiousity got to me about this randomly and i found this video and I'm happy I did! I hope Clown isn't being harrassed by the immature fans anymore, you were very respectful and kind!
@@gaiatiful Did clown make a statement saying he didn’t like that video? Cus from my memory he only explored the site and came across some fun hidden bits

I cannot gush enough over how perfectly the artist nailed the classic Sesame Street look. Seeing his other art, you know this guy loves the muppets and he put his all into perfecting that style. Definitely donating to their ko-fi.
the same could be said for wally. one of the secrets you can find when typing the askew letters into the end of the url is a pair of eyes staring right at you, telling you they know you're there, but that they can't see you, and that if you can see them, *stay quiet.* the eyes are very jittery, like it's scared and trying to warn you. at first you think, "this can't be wally, his eyes are sleepy and these eyes are...serpent-like. or maybe feline-like." but i can assure you that it is wally, as he's the only one who makes direct eye contact with You. the picture of wally in front of home with home looking down at him in this *very* eerie lighting can hint that this secret means that he's warning you to stay quiet, or else home will hear you. or it could be that the colorful envelopes of old art and content from the show was sent from wally, covered up and/or destroyed by wally so home couldn't tell or catch on, and sent to the restoration team. the fact that You are on the website means that you know the secret messages he's hidden and you know about the stuff the restoration team's been sent. there's a chance that wally is doing whatever he can to get away from home, even if that means risking slipping up and revealing not only his sentience, but to home that he doesn't truly love or wish to live in him. this is only a theory of course, but it could be plausible, i feel. wally is definitely scared of something. or it could all be a hoax, and he's trying to make us think he's the victim. the only reason why i'd ever think that, however, is the picture on clown's website, where wally has more sinister art of him, one of them including barnaby behind him with his head decapitated from his body, and i believe the picture's text says "look, wally made a D O G".
@@peachypufff what it actually says is "l o o k" wally e xcla im ed. " i made a D o G " i think you know that i just wanted to mention that. also i feel like home is bad but also wally because it feels like wally just wants eyes on him and not anyone else. its like he wants to make himself the center of attention. his house is in the middle of the neighborhood and also on the left side of the house there's the black stuff on it too. so its sorta like goo i guess? also in the window of eddie's post office is a tiny version of home on the bottom right. i love welcome home so much istg😭😭
BTW Dunno if anyone told you anything - but the sketches on the textbook are named! So if you open the images in a new tab, you can see Wally respond to some of the messages! And some of these answers are just him cutely responding, while some others are more creepy. They seem to indicate a call for help from Wally - or at least PRESUMABLY Wally, since he has said to messages saying "Wally is my favorite" by saying "I'm your favorite! Thank you!" and the sort! Also - there are many different pages for when you type in random strings after the link. Many 404 pages give different results, so might wanna mess around with that! Also "Barnaby was Wally's best friend" but also YOU are Wally's best friend. One of the sketches to a signature saying about their dad loving the show, there's a doodle of Barnaby titles "What is your dad." And many doodles to messages saying something about wanting to stay in Home saying something along the lines of "You will." THAT And also - have you noticed? Everyone's descriptions say "was".... Wally and you are the only ones who say "is".
@@zoev9050 tbh, I saw it first on a different video, but then did further testing! According to another theorist, the misplaced letters lead to specific pages, if you keep rearranging them too, so that's something worth of note!
He's also the only one when reading his description that says "goodbye" as if you walked into a room to talk vs the rest say "leave" referring to others as if they were just exhibits in a museum
Just wanna say, as an ex-web designer, it’s great to see a site with so much life and art put into it! Web design has gotten to be VERY minimalist in recent years with a form follows function only aesthetic which might have been the right choice, but it’s just great to see the effort and beauty and fun thrown into this work. Reminds me of the early 00’s web design. Every team out there was all about the art and I think lots of Those designers folded because companies really leaned into an approach of using only what was needed for ease of use. But I really miss this kinda stuff!
Even Home’s current design makes it look like it is in pain. The blue areas under the windows look like tears, and the door looks like an eternal scream or plea of help
i kind of feel like wallys house might be also evil (mostly because i cant stand those creepy eyes lmao), but who knows, judging from the artwork from the artist website Wally is clearly on a villain role so he might be torturing the house too, since the So Below sketch shows it bleeding from its eyes/windows i think?
I'm glad we're focused on the creative project, but not enough of y'all were as bodyslammed as I about the whole "for those of you who've wanted me to give it to you raw" line
As someone who's been following the artist for years and seen welcome home in its earliest stages of development, I cannot wait for the story to truly being and I am so happy it's starting to get the attention it deserves
Same, I'm ready to have this added to mu reoccurring nightmare where I get chased by a giant purple rabbit in the woods. That dream sounds cute... it... it's really really not...
I had the opposite happen actually- I had a horrible recurring dream and a scary UA-cam video actually broke me out of that fear and freezing up.... I was quite literally tortured, I couldn't see myself and like, my body parts were being replaced with fabric of different patterns, and everyone in my dream didnt seem horrified and instead just kept admiring and talking about how beautiful are the patterns they have. The video that broke my out of this sleep paralysis type recurring dream that haunted me, was.....one of Battington's FNAF VHS tapes where the endoskeleton/carbon fiber shell animatronics was crawling toward the camera while fire alarms go off and it drags itself toward you in pain, singing a broken happy birthday. I have no idea why, but after I finished watching that scene and watched it over and over again, i felt...comforted? And I NEVER had that nightmare again
@@sexygirlmax2019 for me, my nightmare starts with me just taking a walk, it's nice at first, and then this... thing appears. I just love that even tho this is clearly a horror project, it's actually made to look like it's supposed to be made for kids, somehow Wally's design can tiptoe between comforting and creepy. And the aesthetics of the website is so beautiful that even tho it's rainbow colored, it doesn't look like some rainbow vomited all over it, it's actually so pleasing to look at!
The part that stood out to me was the idea that Julie used to live in a cave in the dark forest. That was the one bit of lore you probably shouldn't have skipped from the characters page.
these character designs are so wonderful and thoughtfully made, they have gripped and infected me with a feral urge to turn them into articulated art dolls
Apparently Clown is having a big update in late April, and people have signed on to be voice actors for Wally and such. Would love to see you cover the update when it comes out!

If you go back to the picture of Wally sitting in a chair, holding a newspaper, youll see a patch on the corner of the chair that looks like Barnabys skin. Also, if you zoom in on the newspaper hes reading, his finger is slightly covering a picture of Barnaby.
I'm getting sucked in and obsessed by the psychedelic pattern of the website background. I want a pair of bellbottoms or a spring dress with this print.
All scares aside, I am absolutely obsessed with this person’s art style and gallery of work. You really get that they just love the cast of characters they’ve made and want to draw them constantly. That’s honestly the biggest nostalgia trip 😂
29:00 I didn't see it as wally worshipping home, I saw it as the link entering us into the house and showing us the perspective from inside. Wally is looking out of the window, through the screen, and up at us (who's looking back at him by looking at his house on the screen). Not to mention Wally loves eye contact apparently. I see it as us seeing his yearning. That or it's a representation that he's trapped, stuck inside and looking out
Screaming at my phone when he didn't call out the "Does it hurt?" hidden text after "It means it is inside of you too, then.". So glad he looked back and found all the hidden text! 🙌
Can I just say I love Night Mind's voice? The calm radio voice while he looks for possible horror stuff is fascinating to me. :D Clown did such a wonderful job with this! 💜 I love creepy stuff, so this is right up my alley.
I love the subtle use of vocabulary, like when they say “help us awaken this memory” or referring to the people who live in the town as “denizens” or that one puppet being a fallen star who shined the brightest… It has a very eldritch flavor to it.
I noticed a little detail in the concept art featured in the original clown site, Wally has a cross on his sleeve instead of the regular button. definitely a lot of religious and eldritch stuff going on which i always love seeing. im adding on bcs i have an issue with never shutting up. Someone else pointed out that in the neighborhood page Wally is the only one looking directly at the reader, and he's also the only one to out right talk to the reader in the guestbook page. (i cant see his text myself though? all of the notes are blank idk) Also in the original clown site, the first picture is of Wally 'making' Barnaby. so i guess its pretty clear that Wally is pulling the strings, which paired with the cross, the seeming omniscience and the whole fallen star thing maybe he's trying to play god. i am also prone to pulling olympic stretches so😐.
15:45 there's another hidden text "Does it hurt?" when the entire paragraph is highlighted with the secret code at the very end. When you put it together it reads: "When I unwrapped the first letter, I felt it. I heard it. Open. Open. Open. I want it out. I’m going to get it out. That means it's in you too. Does it hurt?"
I only managed to read "When I unwrapped the first letter, I felt it. I heard it. Open. Open. Open. I want it out", where did you manage to read the other parts?
The other questions have added bits as well, being “Could You Imagine?” In the second one and “The numbers are so hard to read. Sometimes I can’t see them.” There’s probably more but that’s all that’s shown in the video
My entire face literally lit up as soon as I saw this in my feed. ive been following Clown's (the creator) art + story for about 2 years now, im so incredibly happy to finally see a bigger channel view his amazing project! Thanks Night Mind + everyone for the all the appreciation for this piece of art!
@@jacobnoelle8428 Not the only one! The artwork and the entire vibe is so well done that it's a crime it's not a show. Somewhere in another universe maybe.
It's been a while since I've felt warmth like this from any genuine show or interactive kids media, let alone a horror show. This is the most precious thing I've seen in years, and after some stinky garbage like garten of banban, It gives me so much hope for the future of horror projects with a cute spin.
you’ve got to admit though, the amount of polygons on garten of banban’s character models is one of the scariest things to ever come out of the mascot horror genre
@@Haunted_Plush I think it helps that it feels like the characters are victims too. I think Wally might not be entirely innocent, but it feels like there's going to be a better reveal than a lame he's a killer twist or something. His messages to the guestbook signers suggest he's suffering right now. I can't wait for the other characters to start telling us what's really going on in the neighborhood.
As both a horror fan and a puppeteer, I'm obsessed with this concept. The 1970s aesthetic is solid and reminds me of H.R. Puffinstuff and Great Space Coaster, shows I barely remember from my own childhood. Just really good character design and the mixed media is out of this world. Welcome Home, indeed!
Same, ive designed and made a few puppets myself and even froma puppeteering standpoint the designs are pretty good. I love the fact they even talk about the mechanisms the puppets wouldve had, im so tempted to try my hand at making something like Frank's spinning head mechanism
Normally don’t get all too unsettled by the media covered, but waking up to this and spotting “Does it hurt?” at the end of the first unusual FAQ question, missed by Nick? Sloooow chills crept up my back. This project looks wonderfully well-put-together. It’s such a wonderful time for spring. 💕
Ooooh, and as you could expect he caught it on a second comb through the FAQ! Can’t believe I succumbed to the cardinal sin of commenting - doing so before watching the full video :P
@@cold1895 Lowkey I think Wally and Barnaby have a thing going on that will be plot relevant later. Partycoffin (Welcome Home's creator) hails from tumblr, so they likely know queer subtext. Wally gives me gay vibes and some of the art where he's looking at Barnaby, well, let's just say I'm getting "roommates" vibes from those two. I want to be careful saying that, as I don't want that theory to become a fandom thing that everyone runs away with, and let me be clear that I reserve the right to be 100% wrong in my theory and that coffin isn't necessarily queerbating if I misread subtext that isn't there and Wally and Barnaby aren't involved with each other that way, but for now it feels possible to me. Plus there's that art on the coffin portfolio page for Welcome Home featuring Barnaby and Wally, and we know they're best friends. That's my early prediction for a plot relevant element and I'm excited to see if I'm right or wrong. *EDIT* Plus look at the rainbows both Wally and Barnaby wear. It's not the full on pride colors, but that could be just to not give up the game. Plus, Wally and Barnaby literally painted hearts on each other. And on the links page, the only digital sticker we can click on is the "I love Barnaby" one, and we already know Wally is talking to us through the website so.
Its refreshing how subtle the darkness is Too many projects like this go hard and fast with the gore and whatnot. This feels like a slow burn and that's appreciated
EXACTLY! the kids thing turned evil is very overdone, and it takes a real understanding of this concept done well to stand out. this could easily be a real and adorable kids show, which will make it all the better when it goes south
Something about Wally’s smile gives me the creeps, the way he looks at the viewer in that suspicious smile, the way he seems like a calm and enthusiastic character is a little odd. I think he’s more than a guide to this world
For those who have noticed the website is down, don’t worry. Clown only took down the site temporarily for maintenance work. It will be back with a new update.
As an artist, I really appreciate you calling so much attention to the art of this ARG, not just the spooky parts -- the amount and quality suggests the artist spent months or even *years* creating all of it, and so many people don't get recognition for that time and effort 😭 This is such a fantastic project, Clown is so talented!!
Okay, regardless of everything, JUST the art is plenty of astonishing and deserving of all the attention it can get. It's SO full of personality, color and obviously love was put into this. Even if this was a 100% straight bunch of OCs from someone just posting sketches on twitter, this is remarkable but then ALL the work that was put into everything else is amazing.
27:53 some thing I noticed, before you clicked on the blue Barnaby is that above it, it shows a pin above all the characters looking up in some sort of way as it switches between them. But Wally stares directly at you. It lingers for a bit longer before switching to all the other characters, and then eventually looping around back to him.
me too. especially the stuff his company has done since, like mirrormask. did you know that the Jim Henson Company is (according to IMDB) currently part of the filming of a FNAF movie?
Has anyone else noticed that Wally’s book that he is reading is exactly what we are looking at? Like he is reading one book only, and that one book is the book of what he and his friends are doing in that exact moment?
As someone who is a hardcore Jim Henson fan, huge fan of internet horror / ARGs, and also a fan of analog horror, this is SUCH a cool concept to see. You can really see the love for Muppets in this piece. And it wasn’t done in the weird “ooooh animatronics / puppets are sooooo scary” way like FNAF-style stuff does. This is so well done and Clown seems like such a passionate artist. Thanks for sharing this with us! I can’t wait to see what updates come out of this!
One interesting thing to note is when I tried to view the website using mobile, the site didn't seem to load the neighborhood correctly. Instead Wally's house was moved upwards more, and showed the "black puddle" actually looked drawn to be a giant hole or crater under the house. Not sure if that's just me though! Update: I tinkered with it more and there's actually a white spiral leading into the hole! It seems purposeful! Update 2: He brought it up in the follow up video, somebody on Twitter had found it as well ^^. Still proud to say I found it blind~
Same with mine! Thought that was just a normal thing until I saw this video lmao. You can definitely tell it's some kind of hole leading down to somewhere not so fun. Wasn't able to click on it to get to that dark page with Wally and Home's eye/window unfortunately.
My girlfriend has been obsessed with Muppets for as long as I remembered, and when I found this we were instantly obsessed with it. The art is so soft and the colors all go well together while looking like unique characters. It makes me so happy to see something with such love and care put into it. They even list what kind of puppets they are!! This project has me so darn tickled. My favorite is Frank’s
This one is an even better example of what I have always said about these ARGs: They're labours of love. Someone drew and made cut outs and puppets and took photos of all of these characters for the sole purpose of entertaining others. I think it's beautiful
I'm actually kinda fixating on Barnaby of all characters. On the "You" neighbour page it insists that Wally is your best friend, but multiple times it says Barnaby and Wally are best friends. Additionally, the "I love Barnaby" gif is the only clickable one which is interesting. There's also the the links in their designs the website keeps bringing up, mainly the hearts on their paws/shoes and stuff. Barnaby seems to be kinda relevant in a way I don't think we have full answers for yet?? right?
Barnaby comes up more often than other characters, and his friendship with wally (who appears to be the focus of the story) might indicate his future involvement
this could bring into question who’s actually running the site. could it be barnaby? maybe wally himself (which makes the “if you ask me” about-my-favorite-character question pretty funny. tho, if barnaby, the answer being wally could have to do with their friendship)? after all, there are yellow puppet hands holding certain documents on the photo gallery. which is pretty weird considering it’s assumed a human is restoring pieces of show, and suggests having no access to any of the original puppets (judging by how they speculated certain elements of other puppets, like Frank’s turning head). and i’m pretty sure promotional material wouldn’t have originally included a creepy puppet hand on the side.
Okay, so here's what I noticed: 1.) Wally is dressed as the Devil in the Halloween artwork. 2.) Julie and her siblings all have... Horns. In particular, Julie is depicted with two different-sized horns in almost every one of her images. 3.) There is a recurring apple motif throughout, from one of the doodles on the guestbook, to Howdy Pillars origin story. You can color me intrigued.
There's something you missed in the guestbook Nick! If you open the little crayon drawings in another tab, there are hidden messages in some of them! Some of them indicate that maybe the owner of the site is possibly Wally himself.
So, I'm gonna thank you for pointing this out. But, I'm thanking you both sincerely and playfully sarcastically. I started looking through them, and one of the comments says this: Why do you like eye contact?. The hidden response: soyouwillknowiamlookingatyouneighbor_iamtalkingtoyou.png. I think you're right, i think it's Wally making the comments. So, honestly, thanks for finding that! So neat. But "thanks" for that. Because now I'm not gonna sleep. :P
i sent the link to the site to a friend, and the preview image was wally writing in the guest book with crayon, so i think that makes it extra likely. i know a lot of the hidden messages are ominous but some of them are really cute and endearing (e.g. the smiley face this way around (: is called "hello_whyareyousmilingthisway_illkeepyoucompanyneighbor")
As Nick said some of the illustrations appear to have a signature, to me the black, almost heart like shape looks like a stylized set of initials "WD"...Wally Darling?
Never have I been more impressed by an ARG. The artwork really sells it and the creator has some big talent. It really feels like something Jim Henson could produce and the secrets and sinister undertones are well executed. I really hope more people will get into it!
My irrational fear of muppets and puppets akin to that is warring with my desire to admire every inch of work that went into this. Especially as an artist myself
THIS, THIS is what it means to make a great mascot horror! Beautiful and unique work! I'm in love with the characters! This has been such a treat to play detective in the website looking for spooks!
It really does look like something made in the late 1960s with the bright and warm colours, soft outlines, diverse character design, lovely writing and familiar aesthetic. I'm glad there's passion and love in Welcome Home (unlike a certain green blob kindergarten horror game). This is an ARG that I now want to follow.
Me: falling asleep listening to this in bed NM: “for those of you who’ve always wanted me to give it to you raw” Me: now fully awake “was that real? 😳”
I immediately find myself completely enamoured by this colourful, happy art style. The 60's colour palette, patterns and clothing just oozes charm and I am truly in love. I really, genuinely want Welcome Home merch like toys, posters and shirts. I'd want to buy it all. It's just such gorgeous art and character design with so much personality and I absolutely adore it. The artist is truly talented and is genuinely putting so much love, care and attention into creating this art and I am very thankful that I have the opportunity to experience this. A joy to behold. That's not even going into the brilliance of the storytelling, which is also absolutely wonderful, but you need to have a hook and boy has the art immediately pulled me in and made me want to experience as much as I can.
I genuinely thought Welcome Home was an actual TV show recovery project until I saw this video- It goes to show they did such an incredible job with the amount of dedication, passion and time put into this whole thing to make it look real and not to mention so beautiful- I can't stress enough how much I adore the character designs and concepts and to now know this is also a horror project adds so much more!! My two favorite things, horror and rainbows :) Thank you for covering this and I can't wait to see what Clown comes up with further more!!!
Honest to God, despite how little I care about ARGs and internet spooky stories these days, this one is SO impressive. The artstyle and storyline are so charming.
I had the exact same thoughts as you towards the end. This isn't just another opportunity from some desperate individual looking to make bank off a tiresome trend... this is a genuine work of passion. It has dedication. It has effort. It has *soul.* I wish nothing but the best for Clown, and I hope he continues doing what he loves despite what has happened regarding the unwanted attention and bad actors.
One thing I noticed is that there are several instances of Julie having horns in some pictures, while in others they don't exist, and in more still they seem to be growing at a disproportionate rate.
I just gotta say how much I love the design of Howdy Pillar. You can just see the ideas of him doing four different things with his multiple arms while talking to other characters. It's such a fun idea for a bodega shopkeep.
Welcome Home is such a unique, cool project, I literally can’t get enough of it!! And the fact that people are harassing/doxxing Clown makes me so upset, it just ruins it for Clown himself and the fans :( I do really really hope Clown continues with this project because as an avid ARG enjoyer and horror fan it makes me so excited to be a part of this community!! Thanks Night Mind for covering it :)
At 40:15 I think that could be regarded as a ‘clue’ due to how creepy it looks. Also I’m kind of disappointed you didn’t read the character descriptions more closely because there is some interesting tidbits you missed. For instance, Julia’s favorite song is ‘The Fun in Your Frown’. Poppy’s is even more so interesting as it states she apparently rarely leaves her house and has her neighbors visiting her most times. Most of her segments are baking but she never does any of the actual cooking but that her friends do so for her. It’s said that it was because she didn’t have a hand puppet counterpart but in context of the show ‘she was too scared of kitchen appliances’. I think that this could allude to someone who is suffering from some mental illness and can’t function properly so they need assistance to do normal tasks. I’m guessing PTSD as she doesn’t seem crippled in other ways but that appliances apparently trigger something in her, maybe a flashback?
Theory Time! As mention by the website, the episodes end at the end of the day and Night Mind observation of "Welcome Home" never showing nighttime. On Clown's project page of Welcome Home, one of the pictures has Wally drawn dark and eerie with the text "YOU'RE OUTSIDE" and in the back the words "Good Night" are repeated over and over again. Two things I want to point out, is that this is one of the few times Wally is shown without smiling and a star like clasp on his sleeve. With this I suggest that Wally dictated that no one will be allowed to go outside at night and Sally is somehow involved with it. Poppy broke this rule and was caught by Wally. Wally punished her severely, most likely physically. This traumatized her into staying in most of the time with a phobia of kitchen appliances.
Ah, when I first read that my instant thought was "Is she scared of being turned into dinner herself?? Since she's a chicken.." and I thought it was funny, but I doubt that's the actual reason
I'm actually friends with somebody who was involved with this project, and yeah - they had some REALLY talented artists in on this, so I'm not shocked they went all-in on quality. They posted looking for auditions for the project and everything~ I think they were pretty hush-hush about it otherwise, but yeah~ Absolutely made my day to see one of my favorite youtubers looking it over.
@@pineapplefrostyfruits9225 I assume so - I recall aforementioned friend posting a thank you to everyone who auditioned, quite a while ago - and the use of the word 'audition' rather than anything else (especially given they're one such artist) does imply there'll be at least audio in the future.
@@pauline1809 Yeah the coding and making the assets and making sure all the animations are right is tough as shit, but nowadays most of them don’t have any passion to them. There’s no hidden details or cute moments and sometimes it doesn’t even feel like they cared at all to do that bare minimum of making sure it worked. Take the gameplay of Avengers and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Yes there’s many interesting things about it, but the gameplay in Avengers is sloppy, Spider-Man swings on clouds even though we’ve figured out how to make him swing from buildings (he’ll FORNITE has better Webswinging so don’t give me anything about how it’s because he isn’t a major part of the game) the alternate costume just look like the kind of recolors you’d see on bad OCs, and people constantly talk about how the combat itself is boring and uninspired And with Scarlet and Violet, you’ve got broken assets, bugged shading, sometimes character models straight up do not appear, sometimes limbs will be disjointed or part of the ground just doesn’t exist. It’s clear the creators either didn’t care or were refused to have enough time to actually properly make it
Dudes voice was so creepy in the intro and moved into infomercial voice for the raycon ad so smoothly haha. Also that character art on the bottom of the homepage is really beautiful
As a puppeteer and ventriloquist, this is a project I can get behind. If the creator happens to see this, I’d love to lend a voice and hand to any future efforts at “restoring” and “recovering” this amazing show!
I absolutely love how the images on the guestbooks has unique names. Opening them in a new tab shows their file name and its Wally replying to the comments- was startling to see "be not afraid" as a response to someone being scared lmao edit: seems like that isnt true for all images, but the ones that dont have a unique name are self explanatory. I found a lot of wally's replies from page 7 onwards

Reguardless of its state as a something “spooky” it’s amazing how beautiful the art is. It’s so well drawn and colored.
I follow the artist on Twitter, and I always love seeing what they create on my timeline.
It certainly elevates the work, to say the least.

What’s even more insane to me is the creator is a college student. Whether in their 20s or still a teen, this is insanely impressive for someone also in school
College students are usually the most creative
If you have an older peer criticizing your art and ideas, and just keep saying things like "you're art is no good, you need to go to art school, etc etc." chances are, your art and ideas are "just not for them" and he's an ill-tempered, self-elitist shitbag who is forced to tolerate you
My bastard was an older guy who just worked at my dad's business. He just brings up the likes of Picasso and Quentin Tarantino just to make an unfair comparison. "Welcome Home" is a lot more off-putting than your average "kid's media horror" project because the show genuinely feels like something that would have gone to air and been popular among kids. There's no obviously spooky or weird designs for the characters that you'd typically see in even the more thoughtful projects. This looks like something I would have wanted to watch as a kid, and that just makes this a scarier trap.
it reminds me of chowder
Kids things have always been made creepy or attempted to be.

Whoever draws these, LOVES to draw them and does so very well. I highly respect the artistic integrity and will to do so much of it. The puppet characters are painfully adorable, just very heart-melting and joy-filling, but, whole thing being horror themed just gets me even more giddy to see where it goes.
So true
I feel the exact same as you
You're right, you can just see the love and care in the illustrations.
That “so below” bit is genuinely creepy. No sound, no jumpscare, no explicit gore. Something about it just gets under my skin.
Home is juggling him. home? maybe it’s a metaphor
To me it looks like Wally is clawing to get out, like he's trapped
I just love that it took so long into the video for us to get to something really directly sinister and creepy. Everything else was just kind of unsettling.
Me too! It’s more effective than a lot of typical horror for me, it gets under my skin too. It’s even worse after looking at such a fun and colorful page full of puppets that look straight out of my childhood
It's a satanist mantra, so... yeah. Something is hiding under that house. Maybe they should click the chimney too.
They're not appealing to me, I swear, I have had dreams of puppets that look just like this that unalive me. When I was a kid

Hmm, how nice, a show that was called "Welcome Home?" Why does that sound familiar?

As a survivor of childhood abuse, I would love to see this topic tackled in more media. It's something so painful yet prominent in many lives, and to be able to confront and discuss it in a healthy way is integral to the recovery process. Media like this can be very relatable and beneficial. It can also be delightfully horrifying in fiction.

@@CamScam18 I would really love to see it discussed as well! Horror fiction like this is the perfect medium for the sort of story that not only confronts the existence of the issue but offers an honest depiction of healing and growth after the fact. My first instinct with the image of Wally with his hand out in Home was not that he was worshiping it, but that he was *controlling* it.

It’s as though he knows something and doesn’t want to be a part of it
the same could be said for wally. one of the secrets you can find when typing the askew letters into the end of the url is a pair of eyes staring right at you, telling you they know you're there, but that they can't see you, and that if you can see them, *stay quiet.* the eyes are very jittery, like it's scared and trying to warn you. at first you think, "this can't be wally, his eyes are sleepy and these eyes are...serpent-like. or maybe feline-like." but i can assure you that it is wally, as he's the only one who makes direct eye contact with You. the picture of wally in front of home with home looking down at him in this *very* eerie lighting can hint that this secret means that he's warning you to stay quiet, or else home will hear you. or it could be that the colorful envelopes of old art and content from the show was sent from wally, covered up and/or destroyed by wally so home couldn't tell or catch on, and sent to the restoration team. the fact that You are on the website means that you know the secret messages he's hidden and you know about the stuff the restoration team's been sent. there's a chance that wally is doing whatever he can to get away from home, even if that means risking slipping up and revealing not only his sentience, but to home that he doesn't truly love or wish to live in him.
this is only a theory of course, but it could be plausible, i feel. wally is definitely scared of something. or it could all be a hoax, and he's trying to make us think he's the victim. the only reason why i'd ever think that, however, is the picture on clown's website, where wally has more sinister art of him, one of them including barnaby behind him with his head decapitated from his body, and i believe the picture's text says "look, wally made a D O G".

Same, I'm ready to have this added to mu reoccurring nightmare where I get chased by a giant purple rabbit in the woods.
That dream sounds cute... it... it's really really not...
same as fuck

That was the one bit of lore you probably shouldn't have skipped from the characters page.
poppy also lived in a nest in a hollowed tree within the forest before outgrowing it

If you go back to the picture of Wally sitting in a chair, holding a newspaper, youll see a patch on the corner of the chair that looks like Barnabys skin. Also, if you zoom in on the newspaper hes reading, his finger is slightly covering a picture of Barnaby.

All scares aside, I am absolutely obsessed with this person’s art style and gallery of work. You really get that they just love the cast of characters they’ve made and want to draw them constantly. That’s honestly the biggest nostalgia trip 😂
Wally isn't "worshipping the house" in So Below, he's trapped inside and desperate to get out.
Got any theories?
@@RockoSalmon Yeah, House is sentient and Wally has to placate it or else get swallowed up by it House of Leaves style.
I agree but it’s readers interpretation
I, too, thought the 'as below' graphic looked like Wally was looking OUT from inside Home...reaching...yerning....
That or it's a representation that he's trapped, stuck inside and looking out
This maybe could also be represented when there is the artwork with a hand sticking out of Wally's mouth..
Not to mention in the news page "Remember to wave up high!" It looks like Wally is waving?
Well, he's sitting on the ground, so I don't know how exactly that would work
"Wally is your best friend" gives me HUGE "remember: Gary loves you" vibes.

Can I just say I love Night Mind's voice?
The calm radio voice while he looks for possible horror stuff is fascinating to me. :D
Clown did such a wonderful job with this!
(i cant see his text myself though? all of the notes are blank idk)
Also in the original clown site, the first picture is of Wally 'making' Barnaby. so i guess its pretty clear that Wally is pulling the strings, which paired with the cross, the seeming omniscience and the whole fallen star thing maybe he's trying to play god. i am also prone to pulling olympic stretches so😐.
I was getting that vibe too, especially with the implication that the “memory exists in all of us” that needs to be brought into existence
In addition to the other seemingly religious themes... the thing about the "brightest star" falling to earth?
That's *Lucifer's* backstory

As both a horror fan and a puppeteer, I'm obsessed with this concept. The 1970s aesthetic is solid and reminds me of H.R. Just from the Q/A section;
Q2: "But it hurts."
Q4: "Does it hurt?"
Q6: "The numbers are so hard to read. Sometimes I can’t see them."
This whole project has MASSIVE gay energy. 😅
Is anyone else impressed by the art in this series? Like, that is bona-fide quality kid's book art right there...

Too many projects like this go hard and fast with the gore and whatnot. This feels like a slow burn and that's appreciated

the kids thing turned evil is very overdone, and it takes a real understanding of this concept done well to stand out. this could easily be a real and adorable kids show, which will make it all the better when it goes south

One interesting thing to note is when I tried to view the website using mobile, the site didn't seem to load the neighborhood correctly. Instead Wally's house was moved upwards more, and showed the "black puddle" actually looked drawn to be a giant hole or crater under the house. Not sure if that's just me though!

They look more well-designed than most Muppet shows than most actual Muppet shows, I've seen.
@@lakshaykochhar6799 I wouldn’t say they’re better designed, but I would say they’re definitely on par with some Henson and other popular kids’ shows
This one is an even better example of what I have always said about these ARGs: They're labours of love.
Thank you! This is fun, you can tell the internet confuses Wally, but he's smart enough to pick up on things like text emojis!
i sent the link to the site to a friend, and the preview image was wally writing in the guest book with crayon, so i think that makes it extra likely. i know a lot of the hidden messages are ominous but some of them are really cute and endearing (e.g. the smiley face this way around (: is called "hello_whyareyousmilingthisway_illkeepyoucompanyneighbor")
As Nick said some of the illustrations appear to have a signature, to me the black, almost heart like shape looks like a stylized set of initials "WD"...Wally Darling?

Yes! I also noticed sally starlight’s description says her plays take an “abnormal turn either due to her will or at her expense”
"The Fun in Your Frown" is probably a reference to her being the frowning character's best friend (I don't remember the name at the moment)
I can hear MatPat sprinting to his closet ready to make a new ARG theory
Oh i hope he dose!
Clown deserves the attention and support, but if the characters end up on UA-cam kids like what happened with poppy playtime I'm going to lose it

I love the eyes drawn in the background of the website, they almost look a bit hidden as to imply they are watching you
IKR like I saw those and they add to Wally’s stares so much
your voice is literally so calming and easy to listen to woah
I'm actually friends with somebody who was involved with this project, and yeah - they had some REALLY talented artists in on this, so I'm not shocked they went all-in on quality. They posted looking for auditions for the project and everything~ I think they were pretty hush-hush about it otherwise, but yeah~ Absolutely made my day to see one of my favorite youtubers looking it over.
Auditions? Like voice acting? Have they heard anything back yet?
@@pineapplefrostyfruits9225 I assume so - I recall aforementioned friend posting a thank you to everyone who auditioned, quite a while ago - and the use of the word 'audition' rather than anything else (especially given they're one such artist) does imply there'll be at least audio in the future.
these designs are incredible. I would want to see this even if it weren't horror, they're just so darn cute and stylish
This deserves to become huge. There are triple-A games that don't have this amount of effort into it
i think you have deeply misunderstood how much work game design is.....
@@pauline1809 nah triple a games now a days dont have much behind them
@@pauline1809 Yeah the coding and making the assets and making sure all the animations are right is tough as shit, but nowadays most of them don’t have any passion to them. There’s no hidden details or cute moments and sometimes it doesn’t even feel like they cared at all to do that bare minimum of making sure it worked. Take the gameplay of Avengers and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Yes there’s many interesting things about it, but the gameplay in Avengers is sloppy, Spider-Man swings on clouds even though we’ve figured out how to make him swing from buildings (he’ll FORNITE has better Webswinging so don’t give me anything about how it’s because he isn’t a major part of the game) the alternate costume just look like the kind of recolors you’d see on bad OCs, and people constantly talk about how the combat itself is boring and uninspired
And with Scarlet and Violet, you’ve got broken assets, bugged shading, sometimes character models straight up do not appear, sometimes limbs will be disjointed or part of the ground just doesn’t exist.
361th like
Horror or not, these designs, concepts, puppets, and literary EVERYTHING about this is so clearly loved..
I absolutely love how the images on the guestbooks has unique names. Opening them in a new tab shows their file name and its Wally replying to the comments- was startling to see "be not afraid" as a response to someone being scared lmao
edit: seems like that isnt true for all images, but the ones that dont have a unique name are self explanatory. I found a lot of wally's replies from page 7 onwards
looks like wally responded to a bunch more! it seems he recognizes someone named sally edit: i forgot sally was the star nvm don't look at me
@@sorohara oh?? now that's interesting
@@walnut_raisin2621 it seems he's scribbled over some comments on page 5 for some odd reason?
@@sorohara because the user is talking about the secrets in the website i think
@@sorohara the comment scribbled over the most on page 5 seems to say "this website has secrets i just know it." the other with a swirl over it says "This site has reawakened so many childhood memories! Thank you for starting this restoration project, it's a true shame what happened to the show :["
I literally cannot stand the level of nostaligia and joy the illustrations bring, as a fan of Sesame Street. GOD these are GORGEOUS
