For those wondering, technically speaking his actual voice is closer to the heroic tenor repertoire. He was arguibly one of the most talented tenor of the leggero repertoire even if his voice was clearly heavier than most leggeri. He was able to meld his upper register with non-modal voice making the transitions to the highest part of the fifth octave effortless and bright, while most leggeri sound thin and airy. Kunde is not a common voice, he doesn't belong to a single category, he's just that type of voice that tries to remove the boundaries of what a tenor should sing or not. Now he relies on the heavy part of his register since voice has started its natural aging, but still he's capable of singing something beyond its original capabilities, even at 70 years. Tenor with this level of skills are rare, even rare than astonishing voices.
He sang Eneas in Berlioz' Les Troyens, I love his performance on the DVD. And just this January in Rome he sang Radames, it was wonderful. A true genius, bravissimo Maestro Kunde!

@@bodiloto , the man is singing roles like Canio (Pagliacci), Otello, Samson and Manrico (Trovatore). Those roles require a dramatic voice.
