Devlin, I'm loving all the bonus downloads you've been attaching to your videos lately. Your videos are already great, and then these add a ton of value on top of them!
@@DevlinPeckYT Hi Devlin! My interview went well and I was able to make it to the final phase to present deliverable to a panel. I was wondering if you can create a video in the future to train people how to approach presentations? I always seem to make it to this phase but never land the offer. Also, what software are you using to create presentation in this video. Is it still storyline? Thanks!
Hi, Devlin! Like you said, I heard that the STAR method would be used for behavioral questions (ie. "What would you do when...", "Tell me a time when...", "Have you encountered...", etc). Do you still recommend STAR method for *all* interview questions? I ask because your example here is not a behavioral question (What is your favorite ID learning theory?). Thank you!
Devlin, recently I covered my office wall with STAR-type answers prepping for an Amazon interview. The company had given me a link to a video tutorial about the STAR Method at Amazon. When I explained my STAR prep to the hiring manager, she cut me off and simply said, "We don't use that anymore." I never preplan any interview, outside of basics such as industry and training functions (sales, technical, etc.), and I carefully study the Hiring Manager's LinkedIn profile. During the interview, I never answer questions directly. Instead, I answer a question with a question to start a dialog. Q: "Tell me a little about your background in instructional systems design." A: "So I can focus my experience on what you need, can you tell me the top 1-2 traits you are looking for in this ID position?" Continue with Q&A until the end, and ask this question, which seems negative but actually works to allow you to address any objections. Q: (Hiring Manager) "Do you have any more questions for me?" A: (Candidate) "Just one, please. In our interview have you heard anything that indicates that I may NOT be the ideal candidate for the position?" You would be surprised what comes up, giving you an opportunity to address any hidden objections and close the position in your favor.
