I always wonder about "editing tricks" when I watch other people paint and talking about how fast and easy it is, so it was great to actually see a timer running during this! Clever idea and a great video topic, too. Painting always feels like an evening commitment to me but you're absolutely right--there's no reason you can't make a little progress over lunch or during a spare 15 minute break each day.
Thanks, yep, I really wanted to demonstrate the fact that painting doesn't have to done like the Forth Bridge, it's easy to do in sharp bursts and when you can. The timer started as a bit of a joke, but I think it's a good indicator that I am doing as I said I was. TBH, I rarely paint for longer than an hour at a time anyway, unless I'm really cracking into something to get it finished.
A very good video. It was full of practical advice and demonstration of effective techniques. Also, good motivational tips for getting started into a painting project. Everything shown was doable and accessible to people wanting to have a go, plus tips for those with more experience. As an addition, I find having a pod cast or audio book playing whilst I paint helps to keep me focused on maintaining a painting schedule; then, every time you plan to sit down to paint you have something else to look forward to e.g next chapter, good hobby/history discussion or simply broadening one's mind.
Thanks Tim, I am glad you liked the video. Yep, I find I listen to podcasts more and more these days whilst painting, it's the perfect switch off for working through the lead mountain.
Thanks, enjoyed. I have stepped down my painting to doing smaller groups now instead of big batch painting and it is much easier on the soul :-) good vid, anything that encourages people to have a dabble is a plus. Cheers,
great video I must admit I have never tried to paint ready based figures. though saying that I normally blu-tack five to six 15 mm metal figures to a lolly/craft stick and paint them there before basing them.must try that some time if I use plastic figures from PSC or other makers
Really impressive, I find when I force myself to do little but often painting I'm amazed by how much I produce at the end of it. I try and squeeze 15 - 20 minutes in when I get home from work to take my mind off the day. Great video!
I tried the 15 minute painting and it’s bloody brilliant! Got me back into some quick painting sessions and, with a bit of discipline, finished off a couple of platoons of Brits for Dave Browns new O Group rules! Next up some French Napoleonic artillery. 😀😀😀
Brilliant! That is great to hear! It really does work when you put your mind to it and it is very surprising what can be done in that short amount of time.
This is excellent! Very fortunate that only this week I've had a company of late war Brits plus mortar & MG support arrive & I'm going to use this as my go to painting guide! Any chance of tank painting tutorial as well as painting tutorial for German Grenadiers & Fallschirmjager? Keep up the great work! Really enjoying your videos!
Cheers Alan, I am glad this was very timely for you! I have a couple of tank painting guides coming soon and will be doing more in the future. Keep an eye out for them!
Terrific work, Alex!! This was a really fun video... thanks very much for posting it. I really liked the time-motion camera shots. All those 15 minute sessions add up, without a lot of disruption to everyday life. Having your phone timer running is a great idea - I always find it surprising how immersed I get in the 15 minute sessions. 15 minutes often turns into 30... 35... 45... but, for starters, 15 minutes is a good benchmark. Thank you so much again for taking the "15-Minute Challenge". Awesome achievement, Sir!
Cheers Sid, glad you enjoyed the video! I wanted to show how simple it can be to just get stuff done in 15 minutes, each bit just pecks away at the whole. I usually spend about an hour at the painting desk, but I know many people don't have that luxury in time wealth.
Thanks, but... You can paint as many or as few as you can mange, this was just a demonstration of what can be achieved by people who aren't very fast at painting figures.
What I don't understand is why you paint the bases green then cover that with another colour then dry brush it to bring out highlight and hide it all under static grass ? Waste of paint and time ?
Great video. I was mixing up my airbrush and my hair dryer until I saw this. Now both my minis and my hair look great 👍🏻
😂😂 glad to be of service.

Cheers Norm, I am glad you enjoyed it. Yep, smaller is the way to go really.
Great video and a perfect illustration of how breaking down a painting job into little chunks make it really easy to get models on the table.
Cheers Lee, yep all it takes is a little discipline and focus. Its surprising how much you can do in a small amount of time.

Cheers ben, it's amazing how much you can certainly do when you are focussed even for 15 minutes a day.

I always try to do something for my war gaming every day, come the end of the week it is amazing how much you get done!!
Absolutely, even a tiny bit of work a day and you will get loads done.
Great video and wonderful results. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video!
Looks like I'm late to the party but ... this video is very inspiring! Thanks for sharing, might steal this Idea from you. ;-)
Better late than never. Please steal away
@@StormofSteelWargaming alright then, time to get the camera rolling! ;-)
Very interesting video and a great way to paint your figures
Thank you!

Whoa - great.
Cheers!
I try to get 30mins a day. It’s hard sometimes but it gets stuff done.
Yeah, setting yourself some time that is specific is key. But as I showed, even 15mins is a good amount to get something chipped away at.
Excellent. Actually painting and working is underrated. But... 12 figures in 6-7 15 min sessions is slow.
Thanks, but... You can paint as many or as few as you can mange, this was just a demonstration of what can be achieved by people who aren't very fast at painting figures.
What bases are you using please?
Mdf bases the same size as Flames of War small bases.
@@StormofSteelWargaming Thank you
What I don't understand is why you paint the bases green then cover that with another colour then dry brush it to bring out highlight and hide it all under static grass ? Waste of paint and time ?
because the static grass doesn't cover the entire base, so you can see the original paint below. Also, the second colour is a wash, not a paint.
Plastic bases would sell better
I think Warbases are doing alright, TBH.
