  • Follow the traditional method of water gilding a woodcarved object. Its a technique that has changed a little over hundreds of years and a method still in use today. From the first layers of gesso until the final burnishing strokes with the agate stone tool, the gilding is being performed step by step.

Beautiful and fascinating. You should watch the carving of the mascaron video first to see the complete process. I'm glad that in our techno world today, there are still people who are fine artisans and have skills that require no machines other than the human body.

Very nice. I want to do calligraphy on an oil gilded surface, but I have to draw lines on the surface that I would like to remove afterwards. Any suggestions?

WOW!! If you dont mind I have a couple questions! A) What is that tool that looks like you are polishing the leaf with? B) What kind of brush did you use to pick up the leaf? C) what was the surface you cut the leaf on?? Thank you!!

I love the vermillion Bole. And it's wonderful you left the gilding bright, rather than hiding the brilliance under too much glazing.

Beautiful demo! I can now appreciate the labor and masterful craftsmanship of the gilder and the human connection to this lovely work of art. Many thanks!

Bra video! Jag undrar hur länge man bör vänta mellan att man lägger ner bladguldet på ytan och att man polerar ytan?

surface the leaf was cut on is leather. you can buy it at gold leaf suppliers. the brush is also available there. just rub it on your hair and it will pick up the gold with static

How long do you wait before burnishing? is it the same period of time for oil based sizing?

We don’t need music would much rather have narration to learn the process and materials used.
