People say dogs are man’s best friend. But they forget that some dogs are also a criminal’s worst nightmare. Every day, thousands of dogs fearlessly risk their lives to keep us safe. And it’s nothing short of heroic When Police Dogs Save the Day.

I ran a large warehouse with slippery concrete floors 35 years ago. One day a cop showed up and asked me if it was okay to use the building for canine training. He said some dogs freak out on slippery surfaces and have to be trained for it.. Of course I agreed to let them use it after closing as long as I got to stay and watch. It was incredible!!!! One poor sap in one of those "Dog proof" padded suits was dragged off an 8 foot high shelf and broke his arm.
If you ever hear a cop say "Stop or I'll release the dog!" You better stop. There is no way you are going to win. I let them use the warehouse every afternoon for 2 weeks and got to witness it all from my elevated office. It was fascinating. I'll never forget it.
You were very fortunate, that would be so interesting. I feel for the man with the broken arm.

some of these "men" won't back down and are not scared of any man, or woman, but a dog can reduce them to tears. The dog does not play games, and the dog is not deterred by worrying about legal repercussions. Every unit should have dogs, it's all that works in this screwed up society.

There is a female dog trainer who goes to do shelters rescuing 1 and 2 yr old appropriate dogs and she trains them into first basic commands and obedience, buildsrelari9nship skills then police skills them, THEN donates them to underfunded police departments. Shes placed over 10 now.

When I play with my German Shepherd, he sometimes gets a little giddy putting his teeth on my arm or leg. It's not a full bite but it can be uncomfortable. I'd hate to be on the sharp end of a police K9.

My nephew was in K9 and you couldn't go anywhere near his dog but he said the dog saved his life one night when a man pulled a gun on him. He said the dog was on him before he could staighten his arm to fire. They are amazing.

I retired from a juvenile detention center and I always told my grandkids if you ever get stopped by police don't resist and whatever you do don't run, you will never outrun a radio, a dog or bullet

That fur missile the cops deployed is a Belgian Malinois with a bite strength of around 200 psi,trained to rip, tear, pull, thrash and hang on tight! Imagine the tears if law enforcement used some larger herding dogs like the Kangal Shepherd. They'll take on bear and mountain lion. Their psi bite strength is almost 4x more than a Belgian Mal.Ouch!

@@TheBrillian6 I've not been bitten by a police dog, but I was attacked by an English bulldog. It hurt, yes... But it hurt even more for the weeks after. I swear the back of my thigh felt like it was bitten off by a shark. I'm female and I didn't scream and cry like that. If you think I wasn't bitten that badly, I needed countless stitches. And they don't stitch the wounds closed, they stitch them close. It was rough, but I didn't cry or scream at all.

most people don’t realize that’s why we have such great numbers of animals that are abused euthanized every year and why there’s so many homeless and so many rescues I have spent 30 years adopting rescue Great Danes and in all of my 61 years with dogs I have lived & learned and seen a lot take a look around research and learn gain knowledge in many respective forms for the love of animals and dogs everywhere

A neighbour of mine was a Police Dog Handler (UK) and his German Shepherd was named "Solo". That was the baddest most evilist can of whoopass this side and the other side of the Pacos. In the end they had to pass Solo on to the military to go kill terrorists or something after the dog's first assessment - Solo took a pop at the other dogs, his own handler and then the assessor. Legend.
No, they are not "trained to perfection' and they get hurt A LOT! Some stupid asses send them against guys with guns or knives and that is WRONG! Some criminals have even choked dogs to death. These dogs SHOULD be trained to only attack the lower part of the human body to SLOW DOWN the suspect and NOT fully engage with any of these bastards! The dogs are there to AID the officer - not DO HIS JOB.

I had a German shepherd a few years ago. Boy, was he the most good boy ever (he was a retired police dog). In all the 5 years we had him till his death (he died at the old age of 13 [I took the news really hard]) he only barked like 4 times, he never engaged anyone without command. Despite being 11, he was still able to beat the living daylight out of another German shepherd (that other German shepherd was 5 years younger) after he was attacked, sending him with his tail behind his legs.
Now we have a very energetic 1 year old Belgian Malinois. He's a bit more "vocal" than Ben, but just as well behaved when commands are given. God bless the canines 🙌🏻

I grew up in home with a trained German Shepard (Alfie) - he was the 1968 Winners Dog at the German Shepard National Specialty in Paramus NJ. - Alfie was trained in Germany and my father brought him to the US in 1965 - he was the most wonderful dog and constantly played with us kids, very gentle with us. When a stranger would come into our house Alfie would just lay there and watch the stranger - when I watched Alfie train with his trainers, he took commands perfectly. I will never forget Alf and love we had for him!
Most all the police in these videos acted with professional valor. Hats off to the canines!

Best dog in the world is a German Shepherd. Very loving. Very protective. A TON OF WORK. NOT A COUCH DOG. 3+ hrs of play every day. 20 minutes of brushing and thinning every day. STILL THE BEST DOGS.

I've had 3 German Shepherds. Pets, not police dogs. They are so naturally protective and smart. Their mere presence deters people. Love these K9s - goodest bois.
That's the beauty of using dogs: NATURAL DETERRENT. And as much as I'm fascinated and enthralled watching the amazing abilities of the Belgian Malinois, the problem with Mals is they don't have an off switch, so to speak. A German Shepherd is also physically capable--though not quite matching the Mal--but the GS can easily (and willingly) become an instant "lap dog" type of pet. Again, I love Mals, but the aforementioned lap dog scenario ain't happening with that breed.
I'm on my 8th German Shepherd, all pets. Would never be without one for their unconditional loyalty, intelligence and love. None has been aggressive, but I've had people cross the street to avoid us when walking them.
We were raised with GSDs, and my husband and I had one too. Best dogs ever.

I have 3 Belgian Malinois and one Pitbull, all professionally trained in personal protection, service dog and search and rescue,.. at least one goes with me everywhere I go, biggest statement I get is "I bet I can hit you and outrun that dog", I always say "go ahead, because he loves fast food"..
U.S. Marines use Malinois! many European countries have police K-9 and Military canine Malinois.

I've owned many pit bulls and German Shepards, I personally trained them all. My son had a part Great Dane, pit bull mix, I trained him too he was huge. He was a awesome guard dog as well Great with kid's. I warned a friend of my sons to stop horsing around hitting my son because his dog was coming back in the house. Of course he thought he was tough and told me, I'm not scared of that dog that he'd stop him before he ever got near him. I said OK go on with your bad self, but know this I don't won't to hear you cry, and I'm not paying your Dr bills I warned you to stop. Sure enough I hear his growl from the living room and it was his serious one in warning, I took off running for my sons room got there just in time to see my son dog with a grip on his friends hand and him down on his knees, as my son was giving his dog the order to let go. Luckily he was just holding it in a grip so he couldn't hit my son. I can't stand people who try to act so bad against your well trained animal, just to try and act bad. Yes I did ask him "What happened thought you were badder then him? Your lucky he gave him the command before he did any serious damage" 😂😂😂
I have a 27 inch 70lbs male Mal/Dutch shepherds plus 5 gsd's mal/Dutch take him everywhere no one has never said that he has amazing temperament but very intimidating

The most important lesson from this video is how crucial it is to respect the law, but also how effective and invaluable police dogs are in law enforcement. Criminals tried to hide and evade capture, but the persistence and precision of the K9 units made sure justice was served. It’s a real-life demonstration that crime doesn’t pay, especially when these four-legged heroes are on duty!
The last one should have been charged with assault on a police officer for grabbing ahold of the dog.
