I read the owners manual and it recommends reinserting the plug, for it provides cooling for the unit. My a/c is a year round window hanger, so I'll probably remove the plug, drain the pan, then reinstall for fall and winter. Covered, of course. I wonder if mosquitoes could breed in the pan...
4:33 No you don't remove the plug. The instructions for this GE unit states, "To ensure maximum efficiency it is recommended to check to ensure the rubber drain plug is properly inserted. This plug may be removed during operation to minimize water in the bak of the unit; however, removing it will lower the efficiency of your unit." I believe the reason for recommendation is that because it's a small AC unit the amount of water condensate is very little at the base but it helps to cool the unit/compressor to be more efficient, and likely does not over fill because the fan causes the water at the base to evaporate.
That is correct. The unit's efficiency is compromised when water isn't available for the fan to push against the condenser coils. On the other hand, the water can become moldy and foul. A solution that works for me, wick the water out at the end of the day. A piece of gauze, disinfectant wipe, or even a paper towel will do, You can also pull the plug temporarily. to lower the level. ua-cam.com/video/weRHRXbhAk4/v-deo.html
I thought your idea of sealing the unit by silicone was a great! Also, though I've been using my a/c unit for about 3 weeks, I never removed the drain plug. Thanks for the heads up.
Thank you for this great video! Especially the part with plug for AC to drain. I would have never known!
I wished you were local. You’re Tops!
Great job🎉
Thank you this video gave me more information than the maintenance man who put it in, and thanks to you I got it in right so thank you very much😊
Glad it helped
My baffles were already connected, is that right?

Thanks for that info
The manual does say it will affect the coolness of the unit so I think I'm going to leave mine in year round.
Thank you so much! This video was far more helpful than the included instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
You’re a life saver got the exact ac and this video was better than the instructions
Glad I could help.

In South Florida all my unit generate so much water from the Humidity that I have always had to remove it.

I have 2 plugs but the manual says not to remove them, that it won't cool as well.

I'm glad I was able to help you. Most people forget to remove the Drain Plug and the unit Roots.
