We were so rushed and wish we had another day or two. A night at a west end show would have been nice and we didn’t even get to the Tower of London. So much to do.
When I see that "on time "as we're heading to the airport Friday and then in Atlanta Friday night, I will be so very very happy. And when I see my luggage I'll be even happier!
Great video! We were in Dover doing back to back cruises a few years ago. It was easy to get a taxi from the port to Dover Castle. We tried to get a taxi back from the Castle to the Port, but same thing. It's going to be difficult is what we were told. Finally, a lady at the info office told us to check with the shuttle driver who was just pulling up. We asked him and he said he's just finished his shift, but he'd be glad to take us to the Port. I gave him $20 US, we were so happy. It's amazing that a cruise port is short on taxis.
Ya it just boggles our minds that there weren’t more people cashing in on shuttling cruise passengers - the hotels should get in on the gap. They could charge what ever they want for a shuttle and everyone would be happy.
New subscriber : my wife and l have been enjoying your vlogs. We have decided to try Holland America because of your videos. We have done 30 cruises so far. Really enjoyed your heart felt comments on your Jamaica vlog. Your feelings for Jill are the same I have for my wife. Thank you both so much.
Thank so much for subscribing. Aren't loving wives a wonderful thing!? It's makes you feel you can take the world on. You've done about the same number of cruises as us! Hopefully you enjoy your first Holland America cruise - we are heading back to Holland America in March after a couple more Carnival and Princess this winter. Let us know if we can help in any way!
Wonderful first instalment of your epic European adventure! You really had perfect weather to explore the castles and taking the time to slow down and take it all in is a wonderful idea. Looking forward to the next video!
Awesome video; thanks for taking us along. I am a long time follower of the monarchy and have watched videos of royal weddings and funeral of Prince Phillip at St. George's chapel; so in your showing us your trip to Buckingham and Windsor Castles is a treat. The Queen and Catherine are my favourite. Just a quick note to Jill, you might want to look into getting Keen Sandals for your travelling and long walks. They are comfortable and a good substitution for runners/sneakers and they will protect your feet better than regular sandals. We are counting down to our Panama Canal cruise from Vancouver. Cheers!
Funny you say...... we didn't show it in the vlog but Mrs. Canuck went to a shoe store in Dover and bought sneakers after the days of walking!! We will have to check out Keen for sure. We loved the Castles and had hours of coverage - it was hard to cut it down to just the highlights. We wish we could have shown inside the castles.
I’m a new subscriber from Michigan! Love your content and have been binge watching countless vlogs. I wondered about flowers around Buckingham and Windsor Castles?
Enjoyed this vlog from you both,I'm glad you enjoyed London, its a great city isnt it? I'm an English woman, born in Yorkshire, and I love visiting our capital city London,Ive visited many cities around the world, and London is my favourite, because of its history and culture,When you were outside Buckingham Palace did you notice which flag was flying ? If it was the Royal Standard, then that means the Queen was present, but if the Union Jack was flown,it means the Queen was not in residence..Sadly our beautiful Queen Elizabeth 11,passed away 2 months later..I and as millions of Brits were heartbroken.I hope you get the chance to visit London again one day,as there is so much to see and do.
We do hope to get back soon. The Queen was in Scotland when we toured the palace and we were very saddened at her passing after we left. It’s a wonderful city and we only saw a very small part. We loved everywhere we went in England - we could easily image living there.
@@CruisingCanucks Thanks for your reply,I'm guessing you are from Canada? as I thought the same when I visited the Vancouver area on holiday ,and noticed how clean it was too
Like you two, my wife and I are related to London though the British Commonwealth. (We're NZ). While watching it together last night, we looked at each other and said this is just like us, on our first visit to London. A great bit of déja vu. Not just the sights, but the impression they made on you. I look forward to the rest of your UK travels
We love this comment and encourages us so much. We started posting to UA-cam because we wanted people to feel at least a little of what we feel when travelling. We know so many people that don’t travel and don’t understand the money we spend to do it. So we just wanted to show them instead of telling them. After our 10hour flight home from Rome we started to wonder if we could hack the long flight needed for a bucket list trip to New Zealand. Maybe we’re best to just cruise there and avoid the flight. Thanks again for the comment - we were in awe of London and we hope that came through the video.
Love your videos. You should get a 360 camera and then you wouldn't have to decide which way to point your camera. We use an INSTA360 camera and love it.
Great video from your neighbor to the south (near Buffalo). We are planning a bike & barge cruise in Germany next year coupled with a transatlantic cruise from Amsterdam to Ft. Lauderdale. We will need to depend on phone apps for transportation, directions, etc. like you guys did. What did you do for cell service? We’ll need to use data in Europe but our virtual carrier doesn’t provide that. Any suggestions? Love all your videos, really well done. We are a little behind you guys on cruising but hope to catch up! Haha…. Thanks!!
We purchased an 'Orange Travel' sim card for our phone. It was perfect for what you mention. It gave us 20 Gigs of data and we used it everyday for data - mostly for mapping to get where we wanted. We also used it for looking up details on destinations, ordering tickets online, uber, and the translation app. We still had 17 gigs left when we left Europe - so 20 was lots for us. We didn't use it a ton for social media and could only use it when at a port - we had internet on the ship for the rest of the time away from cell service. We would use Orange again in a heartbeat! You can buy the "Orange Travel' sim card on Amazon - so you don't have to wait for it to ship from Europe. You will be given a French phone number - but the instructions are clear and their website is helpful. Thanks for watching and be careful! The cruise life can be addicting...then you'll catch up fast!
Hi! Thanks for the great video. Can you tell me where you booked the train tickets from London to Dover? And what station in London? Also, the roughly the price if you can remember. Was the private driver much more expensive? Thank you so much!
We booked direct with the rail line but can’t remember what one - when the strike hit we never got our money back. There are multiple lines and station options to get to Dover. The private car was Blackline and was around £200.
Heading for London next July. What was the name of the place where you stayed? We'll be staying 3 nights. it looks adequate for us. Supper premium deluxe room, is that what Jill called it? HA
Studios2Let Bloomsbury at 36-37 Cartwright Gardens, London It was called the 'Executive Studio' We paid £264.60 (CA $434.53) for 2 Nights. Hope that helps!
When are you looking? Maybe it’s not available? It might serve as a residence during school months. We did a random search for next July and it came up.
@@CruisingCanucks I probably wasn't clear. I was searching UNTIL you gave me the name. I booked a room for next July for three nights. Website says the bed is a double, was it tight for you two? We sleep in a queen at home and hate to squeeze into a smallish double if we don't have to. And Thanks again.
It WAS small - maybe a double and we sleep in a King at home. We found all the beds in Europe small. For two nights we figured we'd put up with it considering other hotels were so much more
Can you tell me the hotel you stayed at during your visit to London? Was two days enough or do you wish you had stayed more time? We have a cruise coming up next year and are doing some pre planning.
We definitely felt that two days was not enough. We wouldn’t recommend staying where we did. It was not the most convenient location. We had a pretty far walk to even get to public transportation.
@CruisingCanucks thanks for taking the time to answer. We leave just about a year from now and want all our ducks in a row. Ot at least a crooked line.
Can you please tell me exactly how you got from the airport and picked up the train can you give me the information I really would appreciate it. Thank you so much.
We landed in Gatwick and bought an Oyster card for the train. We just asked lots of questions and knew our final station in London. We then double checked with other passengers when we became confused and it all worked out. Sorry that's not more exact, but we tries googling it and weren't 100% - so we figured we'd just ask lots of tourist questions and it all worked out.
@@CruisingCanucks I think your both sweethearts I love watching your vlogs .May I ask ,have you both ever been crusing in a storm . That's the one thing that scares me
Our first ever cruise was a short 4 day cruise in the Pacific. We had 30-foot waves that were throwing us around the final night. A little unnerving on a first cruise. Most times the ships sail around bad storms. So it's usually not a problem.
Thank you!

Love this video. We went to Windsor Castle Nov 2023. Buckingham is on the list now. Thanks for sharing this video. Looks like so much fun ❤
Buckingham is a great place to visit. We loved it. Do believe that we agree with Queen Elizabeth in that Windsor Castle is the best.
