Why should we trust what the gospel authors have to say about Jesus? How can we test the Gospel authors to see if their accounts are reliable? J. Warner answers these questions in this video from a stage presentation from his book, Cold-Case Christianity.

Luke 24: 44 Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father ...
"that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” The jews that not believe in Jesus do also have these Scriptures, so it cannot been corrupted for Jesus. Is Jesus falsely made up so that He fits into it? No, it makes more sense that Scriptures were prepared for Jesus and that God prepared the coming of Jesus.

This is great testimony for Christians, but I am looking for material I can share with atheists. They are so good at turning things around, they will use the variances you mention to deny the bible.

But the guys who recognised the Canon weren’t Roman Catholics. They were just called “Christians”.

@@aericabison23yeah, with apostolic succession, making weird claims about Rome acting like the supreme court because of special succession of St Peter. Also they used the word Catholic as well as Christian.
The word Catholic is nothing new, neither are the claims new.
St Ignatius of Antioch (spiritual son of At John the apostle said for example)
"Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church"
This is still our guiding principle both locally and universally. A bishop of a diocese has full control.
      Martyrdom of Polycarp (150AD)
The Church of God which sojourns at Smyrna, to the Church of God sojourning in Philomelium, and to all the congregations of the Holy and *Catholic Church in every place* : Mercy, peace, and love from God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, be multiplied.
      Muratonian Fragment (170AD)
[Paul] wrote, besides these, one to Philemon, and one to Titus, and two to Timothy, in simple personal affection and love indeed; but yet these are hallowed in the esteem of the *Catholic Church*, and in the *regulation of ecclesiastical discipline*.(I highlight this discipline leat you claim they meant something else by Catholic)
There are also in circulation one to the Laodiceans, and another to the Alexandrians, forged under the name of Paul, and addressed against the heresy of Marcion; and there are also several others which cannot be received into the *Catholic Church* , for it is not suitable for gall to be mingled with honey. (Sounds like a visible church in many cities....almost like in the Bible)
      Tertullian (180AD)
Where was Marcion then, that shipmaster of Pontus, the zealous student of Stoicism? Where was Valentinus then, the disciple of Platonism? For it is evident that those men lived not so long ago - in the reign of Antoninus for the most part, - and that they at first were believers in the doctrine of the *Catholic Church* , in the church of *Rome under the episcopate of the blessed Eleutherus* , until on account of their ever restless curiosity, with which they even infected the brethren, they were more than once *expelled*
      Clement of Alexandria (202AD)
Therefore in substance and idea, in origin, in pre-eminence, we say that the *ancient and Catholic Church* is alone, collecting as it does into the *unity of the one faith* .
I can continue but that would be useless. We have not even entered the time century of fierce canonical debates and as you can see the term Catholic church meant
      1. one visible church
      2. Had bishops with authority.
      3. Unity of faith.
