I opened an Etsy shop 2.5 months ago and so far have gotten 39 sales (20 listings in total) and I haven't paid a single penny for market research tools. In this video, I explain exactly how I do my market research for FREE! Let me know in the comments if this video was useful! ❤ What other questions do you have?
This is such an informative video!! I was wondering how you created the Excell spreadsheet? I use Excell alot at work but I've never used it in my business
you're the second person I have watched said not to use research market. I think it is right. Etsy niche is about finding ideas and analysing everything. thank you for the video
You're welcome! Actually, I am using market research tools now, but I do think that you CAN do market research without any paid tools. Paid tools will help, but that doesn't necessarily mean just paying for tools will help you find a great niche. There are many things to consider when it comes to niche-finding!
this camera angle is perfect when it comes to teaching a how-to video. its literally like almost over the shoulder or sitting next-to someone while you learn from them. perfect dina!!!! loving the content on the channel!!
I'm binge-watching your videos, I love how transparent and informative they are. And you are so likable :) Also - congratulations on having so many sales in your first two months! I am crossing my fingers for you! I would love to see your process of making a digital product and how you then create variations of it. I know that you don't want to show your actual products here yet (that is completely understandable) but maybe you could create an exemplary one, for your UA-cam fans :)? Anyway - have a great day and once again thank you for sharing your process!
Aww THANK YOU!! I love reading comments like yours. Today I actually just filmed a video on how I create my listing photos for marketing. I think next month I'll create another tutorial on exactly how I create the lproducts themselves. Thanks for the recommendation!
I love your videos. One problem with me is everytime I do research, I will tend to become overwhelmed. Like, my simple idea became bigger and bigger and then Blank..🥴
Thanks for this video. While watching it, I got an idea for a niche. Last year, right before I went on vacation, I was looking for a specific form for a specific thing I wanted to do while on vacation (sorry for being so vague, I don't want to give the niche away). I couldn't find one so I ended up making it myself. I just now searched for it on Etsy and it came back with around 450 results and most of them weren't the exact form but related forms. I clicked on one of the results and it was selling for $43 and the shop sold over 300 last year. There were also 5 in the cart. The download looked like something I could easily make in Canva. The shop had only been around since May, had 6 items listed - all digital - and had over 1200 sales. Other shops in the same niche also had a lot of sales and few products. I really think this could be a profitable niche and I'm excited to start working on it. Thanks again for the inspiration!! 👏
Thank you for the tips Dina. I think i will start on my shop too, i've been putting it off cause i'm not confident enough and a lot of research i have done is confusing me. I will just take your advice and start small then expand later. Pls continue to share your journey with us and i look forward to more amazing videos.
thank you so much I am very thankful to have found your page very helpful and very detailed! great teaching i hope your business continues to grow girly💕
For the wedding niche, you need to find less competitive items to sell in order to do well, then have a mix of trending + a little more saturated items. Good thing about that niche is that a lot of people buy it and you can still find low competition items. If people go into that niche just creating invitations alone, that's saturated.
Sam, you're right. I do believe there are unsaturated niches inside of the wedding niche. But generally yes the wedding niche is saturated especially for wedding invitations. But I do think there is a lot of opportunity there too!
Start with one niche, and if you don't sell just try something else that you like to do but that is actually looked for in the search bar 🙂 Small niches are good, but to try to have any visit and hopefully sales, you also have to create something that it's trending, otherwise your listing will get lost in the oceans of millions of other listings. Anyway you provided amazing info, thanks for that!
Thanks a lot for this video! Right after it I started with my research but I got overwhelmed pretty fast. I'm working as a graphic designer but I believe it to be so hard to create digital products because there is just soooo much stuff. E.g., I'm mainly working for small entrepreneurs and provide them coaching for their business like market positioning, creating a clear vision, USP, Marketing Strategies, Business Values and then I create their Branding many times not only the Logo but also the Website, stationary etc. But these things are everywhere. You can buy logo templates and corporate guide templates everywhere to buy. It's funny that is way more easy for me to help my clients then myself 😭😅 Nevertheless, I found your video really very interesting! Thank you very much. I also like that you don't share your Etsy account so the stats and your experience is crisp clear!
Thank you so much!! Yeah it can get overwhelming once you start doing all the research hahaha. And totally agree sometimes it's harder to help yourself 😅
This was a great video! 🎉🎉I am attempting to follow in your footsteps as far as getting something off the ground with etsy for this new year, and I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video and share your knowledge!❤
Thanks for all you tips! In the end of your video you're mentioning that after a while you might expand your niche. Would you recommend opening a different shop for each niche? or add it to you existing shop? Thanks a lot!
I think if it's related to the original niche, then I'd keep it within the same shop for sure. But if it's ENTIRELY different, I would create a new one.
I'm happy things are going well for you. I really look forward to when you get into Pinterest- I'm still having trouble figuring how to make best use of it.
Actually this month, I'm so jam-packed with stuff I didn't have time to look into pinterest. That's on my to do list for next month lol! Thank you so much for your support Lisa!
@@DinaLu not trying to rush you - I've been thinking of looking into it for years. Actually these past few months, I've been uploading my Convert-kit landing pages & freebies there. But I still think I'm missing the knack.

I have autism and adhd myself and when trying to find downloads they are often targeted for children and their parents or dont really allow for individual differences but I do see how much their already is so im worried if i will actually sell anything
Hi, I love your video, but I was trying to find a niche, but then I noticed that the tool that you showed that gives an exact number of results in each different search only shows me the same number always, which is always 1,000+. Help plz I would like to know if this is an error or if it could be something else.
many thanks for the useful video! I've a question - based on my understanding so far, my shop should stick to a single niche - let's say e-mail templates. Can I create a shop where I sell multiple digital downloads for various purposes such as e-mail templates, movie planners, google sheet templates, etc? Or it is advisable to "tie" my shop to a single niche. Thank you in advance and keep those videos coming! :)
I would say the examples you gave (e-mail templates, movie planners, google sheet templates) seem like very different products. Actually, I didn't even know what a movie planner was so I just searched it on Etsy - cool product! So some examples of what might be in the same niche: SHOP 1) Digital planners like movie planners, book planners, period planners, work planners. SHOP 2) Movie things for individuals like movie planners, Google sheets template for keep track of movies, movie journal template. SHOP 3) Templates for indie movie producers like Google sheet planner templates, website template for movies, email pitch templates for getting sponsors, Instagram promo templates for movie producers. So I'd say you'd be safe if you stick to a certain INDUSTRY (movie producer), or a certain TYPE OF PRODUCT (digital planners). Hope that helps!
I think in general art prints have a lot of competition, BUT it really depends on what kind of art prints. I think you CAN be successful if you can find an art print niche that isn't oversaturated
I have canva pro subscription. Can I use the elements that unlocked with pro feature on my templates? Will it cause to me to receive intellectual property complaints and deactivation?
I think you can use it in your templates, but your Etsy buyers will need a Canva pro subscription or buy the individual elements if they get your template, which might turn them off from buying your listing
Do we need a budget to sell digital products?! I mean, must we already have money in our bank account (Credit Card) after getting first order like POD (Printify Shopping..) or we can start totally with 0$!?
If I do anything too much or too many of the same I always ALWAYS end up at disliking to say the least. So I tend not to use the things I am actually passionate about . I keep those niches as my hobby
Yeah that's difficult to see unless you use some paid tools (haven't really tried pay tools yet so I'm not sure if they are accurate or not), but you can always take a look at the Etsy stores page and see how many people have it in their cart, how many reviews there are for that particular item, and if it's available what are the sellers past sales

Is framed wall art and digital art print downloads, considered a niche? I do different type of designs (watercolour art, abstract art, ukiyo art, etc) for those art prints
It is a niche! But I also think you can niche down even more. Like for example, abstract wall art for children, or watercolour art prints specifically for a certain kind of person
A person has to go to graohic design school to be successful at this. Yes, there are accepting, butfoe the majority It takes talent to get into an art department at a university and those with such a degree have been through rigorous art training..I wish I went to art school, but now I am 40 years old. I love art.
I haven't gone to graphic school, and I don't think you HAVE to to have a successful Etsy business. We can learn all sorts of things just on the internet and with practice. But going through formal education definitely helps for sure
This is so informative and accurate. I have not started my shop yet however I am so enthusiastic to sell what I can offer and also is there any videos on the Etsy scams emails as I have done a fair share of research whereby 1st time opening Etsy shop are being scammed which kind of scares me. Hope there is a advise on that. I just subscribed to your channel.
Sometimes, on other people's shops, it will display "5 people have this in the cart" like where you look at the listings. If it doesn't display it, maybe no one has it in the cart I think
I think in general they are hard to get into if you don't have a niche within that niche. You'll have to be very smart about what you offer in terms of art prints and it can't be very generic. I think it can work, but you just need to have something very unique
Yeah think about who the digital downloads are for. Are they for people trying to be more productive? Are they for yoga studios? Are they for entrepreneurs trying to find marketing templates for their business? Are they a one stop shop for all kinds of social media templates? It’ll help you narrow down keywords and create content that people will search for 😊 and help with ideas for the content.
Yes I live in Vancouver, BC Canada! Why do you think it's harder to sell? I can see it being harder if you're shipping physical products to customers, but with digital downloads I think it shouldn't be harder than anywhere else in the world
Did you get any message like "your etsy account is suspended" I got this , I made a new account and add a listing also but after 1 day it is showing as suspended 😢 . Does it happen to anyone ?
Hmm I didn't get that kind of message but I think it took 1-2 days for my Etsy shop to actually open because I had to submit incorporation documents. Maybe check Etsy community forums?
Hey Marc, if you look closely at 0:18 and 13:34, you can actually see my monthly revenue and net profit. Next week, I'm coming out with a video about my second month Etsy update where I'll share more about how much I made and why I think the sales doubled!
@@DinaLu I see. So, should we start from very very specific niche? Or with any keyword that gives at least 500 results in etsy search bar? Which one, why?

New accounts get suspended all the time, but are reopened about a week later. Happened to me, but they cleared it 8 days later.
why do u have etsy in incognito mode? jus curious
Because you would see the keyword suggestions on my actual account and then know my niche 😊
@@DinaLu should I go for the wedding niche it has been on my mind and this will be my 1st Etsy store
*I am selling mugs and I am promoting everywhere(social medias). So am i doing wrong?*
This video is for digital downloads so unfortunately I can't help much!
Would you set up specific stores for specific niches?
It depends how related the niches are, but I'd say generally yes, if its a completely different niche I would create a new shop
Can you show us your monthly sales & profits
Hey Marc, if you look closely at 0:18 and 13:34, you can actually see my monthly revenue and net profit. Next week, I'm coming out with a video about my second month Etsy update where I'll share more about how much I made and why I think the sales doubled!
@@DinaLu thanks and good luck
What do you sale on etsy?
Why do you suggest us to start from not popular? I didn’t understand.
If you enter a super saturated market, it's harder to compete 😊
@@DinaLu I see. So, should we start from very very specific niche? Or with any keyword that gives at least 500 results in etsy search bar? Which one, why?
@@DinaLu I mean keywords with 0 or at least 500 results?
@@DinaLu ?
Hello 🔥🥰🥰
Everyone take a shot when she says niche
Take a shot every time she says 'like' 😈
take a shot when you hear "niche" =]
Hahaha
whats your niche??????
It's canva templates for a specific kind of business (I can't say what kind of business or else it's easy to find my shop)
not anymore
I’m never saying the word “like” again.
LOL did I really say "like" that many times? 😂😂😂
I’m totally lost. 😂
I don’t know what it is that your making and selling exactly. My phone is too tiny to see. But I just downloaded canva. And I created a little circle brand logo thing. I am intrigued! I want to help bring some money in as summer is coming and my husband is going to not have work!
Hey Rita! I'm selling canva templates for a specific kind of business owner (that's the most specific I can get without revealing the niche) . That's awesome! Try out canva and see what you can do!
If I had a quarter for every time you say "niche", I'd be rich :)
Hahaha
Of course she’s left handed lol
Lol how is it "of course"? 🤣
Hi This is wonderful tutorial, I have a small query Let us say I want to promote your work everywhere, And earn an affliate sale on the same. Can we do it? By redirecting the traffic from my social media to your page and get you sales? Let me know. cheers :)
Hi Anvith, I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. But right now I'm not looking for any support in promoting my page, thank you though
Great video Dina! I've reached out to you on instagram as instructed but it looks like you didn't get the message. Do you have an email where I can contact you?
Just replied!
Why do you always do your research incognito? 🫣
Because I think if I do it in a regular browser it might save my searches? So it's more impartial when it's incognito
"people are buying my stuff", unfailing logic. 🤌
Hahaha
