Hi Sam! As someone who wants to go to Japan again and maybe even live there I am truly inspired by you. I think its really admirable how you can enjoy yourself on your own on a holiday that is usually so heavily associated with family, in a country that is not your own! I hope it wasn't sad for you, though I am sure being alone on Christmas would leave anyone with some thoughts of loneliness I still think you can be really proud of yourself for making the best of your opportunity, visiting such cool spots and even going out all by yourself. I hope you find your place in Japan more than you already do and wish you a happy 2021! Und liebe Grüße aus Deutschland :)

That onsen looks fantastic, I'd love to visit if I can get back to Japan. Christmas here was pretty slow. We usually go to my sister's house for dinner on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Of course we couldn't do that so she delivered the same great dinner to my house. So Christmas may have been boring but at least I had a good dinner and good UA-cam to watch just like this one.

I just stayed at home except for a brief trip to my parents' condo to exchange gifts. That place looks so peaceful, especially since so few people were there. You made the best of your situation so don't get down on yourself for being single - you can be part of a couple and still feel alone.

Merry (belated) Christmas, Sam. How wise you are to create a special excursion to celebrate Christmas.
I know what a solo Christmas in Japan is like as I spent one there in 2017 while on a 3 month study program. I decorated my apaato with multiple strands of fairy lights, bought a tree from NItori, and like you enjoyed champagne on Christmas Eve with a charcuterie board I prepared myself, nuts, mandarins, cookies and fruit cake.
On Christmas Day I made a lunch reservation at Two Rooms in Omotesando where they treated me like a royal princess. After dark I wandered the banks of the Meguro River all lit up in pink. All in all a lovely Christmas.
I determined long ago not to miss out on anything in life simply because I was single. (Good call.) In fact all of my single Christmases have been much, much happier than a good many of my coupled ones. All the best to you in the new year.

It is totally normal to be overwhelm by the emotion of how much you love Japan! I get that every time when I come back to visit and it can be the most random little thing that triggers it. This video was everything I wanted for Christmas! I had ticket for a Hokkaido trip for December, but we all could have gusted that it didn't happen. But this was so wonderful to see a snowing day in Japan let alone in an onsen town!!! Hope you are having a wonderful start of the new year!

    • @lynda.grace.14

A female sommelier also taught me to leave the metal part on after loosening it, then when you put the towel over the cork and push down while you twist the bottle, the metal grabs the cork so the towel doesn't slip. It's also easier for women with weaker hands to get the cork out. Some are quite stiff.
