BBC Sports Personality of the Year nominees unveiled

- The nominees for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award were unveiled today (12 December).
England goalkeeper Mary Earps is currently the favourite to take home the award.
The 30-year-old was one of the stand-out performers during England’s run to the World Cup final in August 2023.
She is joined on the shortlist by retired cricketer Stuart Broad, former jockey Frankie Dettori, athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett and golfer Rory McIlroy.
The winner of the public vote will be announced live on Tuesday, 19 December.

Beth Mead, Mary Earps.....I see a trend emerging. I remember as a kid when this award went to the best sportsperson of the year.
Everyone on the list have not won any majors this year ,so here’s my prediction ,AQOS shelved ,FOOTBALL FOCUS next and SPOTY after that . Cherio BBC .

The award obviously does not mean anything these days and should follow "A Question Of Sport " into the "graveyard" of BBC .Their sporting calendar involves 4 days of golf , Wimbledon , Grand National and a boat race. Women's football is a nice "filler "and I am sure Gladiators will have a few nominees this year. Auntie Beeb wont give it to anything or anyone that gets covered on Sky etc
