Gun control is definitely not the answer for the Black community.
Accountability for the way we behave, raising & educating our children properly, and promoting financial/economic literacy on the other hand is the answer.

In the black community history has taught us that even doing things the right way being nonviolent still ends in black death to the point of which you said even today Black people are targeted for crimes that is because we are as people soft targets for people to pick off. The community must armed themselves and train and be responsible gunowners and know how to handle hostile situations. Turning the other cheek will only get you so far don’t go out looking for violence against any group of people but make sure you have the skills to defend yourself gun control isn’t the answer. having survival and tactical skills is the answer so if a situation happens in your lifetime that you need to use it you know how to do so Black people spend more money on things that don’t matter except for the skills that could save their lives that’s the change in the black community we have to make.

Interestingly, the majority of (so-called) white American are against gun reforms or prohibitions. They see crime as the problem that needs a strong policing and gun rights as solutions - really, code for fear of its black citizens. By contrast, the majority of black Americans want gun reforms and prohibitions. They see crime as a problem but also the police and white militia men carrying weapons freely.

I don't know where yall get the idea thar black Americans want gun reform or gun control. I've been around guns my whole life. We come from farming and you need firearms on a farm. We moved to the cities during the great migration. Most of our people stayed in the rural south.

@@journeyman378 I was thinking more of urban surveys of black folk living in cities and towns (notably Chicago). Rural is a whole other world. I used to live in the country myself, for a few months helping out on a farm. Thing is, here in Canada, we don't really have guns about. That said, I think you'd agree with me about city folk wanting tougher gun laws than country folk -- it happens here too; farmers want to shoot foxes, deer, and other animals on their properties.

The issue of disproportionate punishment of Black students in schools, particularly by teachers, has been a significant concern for many years. Research and studies have consistently shown that Black students, especially Black boys, are disciplined more harshly and more frequently than their white counterparts for similar behaviors. This issue is complex and involves various factors, including implicit bias, systemic racism, and institutional policies that disproportionately affect students of color.
    Key Points:
    Disproportionate Punishment:
Black students are more likely to be suspended, expelled, or referred to law enforcement compared to white students.
These disciplinary actions often begin at a young age, even in preschool, where Black children are more likely to be suspended or expelled than children of other races.
    Implicit Bias:
Teachers may unconsciously hold stereotypes that view Black students as more threatening or disruptive, leading to harsher punishments.
This bias can result in different interpretations of behaviors, where the same actions by a Black student are seen as more severe than if they were done by a white student.
    Zero-Tolerance Policies:
Schools with strict, zero-tolerance policies tend to disproportionately affect Black students. These policies often leave little room for discretion and lead to severe punishments for relatively minor infractions.
The criminalization of school discipline, sometimes referred to as the "school-to-prison pipeline," disproportionately channels Black students into the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
    Impact on Students:
The cumulative effect of these disproportionate punishments can lead to negative outcomes for Black students, including academic setbacks, increased dropout rates, and long-term impacts on mental health and self-esteem.
These experiences contribute to broader societal inequalities, reinforcing cycles of disadvantage and marginalization.
    Calls for Reform:
Advocates for racial equity in education are pushing for reforms, such as the implementation of restorative justice practices, implicit bias training for educators, and the reevaluation of disciplinary policies.
There is also a push for more culturally responsive teaching practices that recognize and value the diverse backgrounds of students.

Black on Black crime is not caused mainly by lack of gun control, it is caused more by lack of self-control. In fact Black communities are over-policed by police, partly because we do not apply the first level of policing, which is us who live in them, having a common set of basic values and standards, that we all recognize and adhere to. This is fundamentally what the idea of the adage "it takes a community to raise a child" speaks to. It is the same situation of school teachers having to act as parents for the students they are charged to educate. They must be parent, police officer, and psychologist, if not more, for too many students. We don't insist on making sure the basic institutions do what they are designed to do, thus we are often reinventing the wheel. It also amounts to beating your head against a wall, to think that making arguments whether questionably or valid, against racism, in all its forms and the injustices that come with it, will make much of a difference in terms of eliminating them. We have historically been doing too much to ourselves to make our situation/condition worse. White people with all their weapons, drug taking and drinking, and drug selling, not to mention mass killing of just their children, still don't kill each other, at the rate we do. To say that nobody talks about 'White-on White crime is besides and not the point. It is like older generations parents would say to them when they tried to explain that they were following the crowd and that is why they got into trouble, and the parent would respond - if your friends ran and jumped off a cliff are you going to follow them too? In this case, of those like Harriot who say - "what about White on White crime" they are talking about not friends, but enemies, and the enemies have parachutes or bungee cords to break their fall, while we have nothing to . Harriot has a better than average insight, but it would be put to better use, if he focused on understanding Black people, who he may or should be able to influence and so change our self-defeating/counterproductive/self-destructive behavior, that in many ways seem as systemic and structural, as the racism, in all its forms, that we constantly wail against. In our present state that is all we can do, in terms of dealing with . We can't get much gains if any from that, but we can change our thinking and actions, and without question improve the quality of our lives. Much of life/existence is systemic. Racism is systemic, while gun control is not. For it to have a chance to be effective, it must be uniform across the country, and even that would likely not be sufficient, as people and drugs come into the country very easily. Black people as a group, are not systemic/highly coordinated, in our collective response to racism, in all its forms, as the two people who made the terms 'White supremacy' and 'systemic racism', house-hold words among us, recommended/advocated we must be, in response to it. We have yet to seriously confront ourselves, about our faults, that we are largely in denial of. Not much of what is being said today, from those who are called activist reflect reality. We were not even being for real during the days of the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, and we surely as a group are not woke today. The country - the government and society, has to reckon with its wrongs and contradictions, but so do we as individuals, and as a group.

I completely agree with this assessment. The Black Community has turned away from the reality that the gradual destruction of our community has come from within. Until we are ready to acknowledge that reality, our status and community will only continue to degrade. Gun control won't address that.
