Ragnar Lothbrok’s journey from common farmer, to warrior, to earl, to king, to LEGEND. Will remain as one of the greatest character journeys on television
@@marshallzane7735 Indeed. In the end, he is little more than snarling, drooling, crouching and murderous "thing"...alone in a mansion. Almost like Dracula or Nosferatu, actually.
In my opinion the title speaks for it's self, if you don't go too far your are not ambitious enough, if you go too far you are an ambitious man but it will come at a price, you just have to either accept the price or live a regular life only the ones who are okay with the consequences of their action are able to reach great places
According to what I'm seeing in this video, ambition transforms into obsession and isolates and/or hurts the people around us including ourselves. I guess the moral is have ambitions but don't lose yourself to them.
Dude.. Ragnar's line where he wishes he never left the farm fucking breaks me every time, man. There's this conflict in my brain that the greatness and accomplishments he was destined for wasn't worth the loss of a single daughter. That the trade of legendary legacy over a happy farmer's family life is not equal and actually skewed towards the latter. I know that our species progress and innovate and push forward but there's a part of me that dies thinkimg about what we have to let go and trade off.
I used to have ambition with my guitar but these last year an half I rarely played it due to me being in the middle ground, yet I have this part of me that wants to play and write songs with a passion
This was such a great video, the editing is so on point it's crazy. You guys call yourselves Storytellers and I see why! That whole thing felt like a complete & coherent narrative and I just wanted more :) Love your work guys!
Chilling music to hardcore crazily, passionate driven characters loved the edit and moments you choose to use 👏💥 Recently watched Vikings what a ride season 04 is when it became slow but it's still GOOD Whiplash and Black Swan made me scream in my head for days .... Haven't seen there will be blood so no comments on that but heard a lot of great reviews
Loved that Ragnar from "Vikings" was used here, one thing though is that I know Rollo is not the real brother of ragnar though he does sacrifice their shared blood in the show for wealth and power, even killing his own people which irl did happen. Also not letting Guthrum live in that show to become historically the great rival of Alfred the great was this biggest mistake that show could have ever made in my eyes...
Why is Ragnar Lothbrok from Vikings in here? You seem to put him in the same category as these characters whose sole purpose is to succeed, excel and become great at what they do. Ragnar Lothbrok if saw one of his scenes talking to his son Bjorn talked about power. And specifically of how "He never wanted power" but just curious, to explore to the west and to learn knowledge and discover new lands. Unfortunately this pursuit led him to different circumstances that needed him to do things in order to preserve his own and his own family. In the end, he was forced to Kill King Earl Haraldson, Jarl Borg and King Horic in order to do this. He was not ambitious to the point that he'll risk his own family's safety. He cared very much for his friends and to his people. He was just forced by circumstances.
I think Vikings is not the best example of the price of ambition. Well atleast Ragnar's story is not. Ragnar never wanted to be earl or king, other people forced him into situations that made him earl/king. Great edit though!
I don’t really see how Ragnars Journey depends on ambition. I see it more as curiosity and the result of other people’s actions (as he himself said it)
Haha well I like the other movies too, but I agree I couldnt tell Ragnars whole story in this vid. If you havent already go watch 'ragnar the choice' by Zurik23M
@@storytellers1 You know what's funny about the entire concept for this video is that Ragnar didn't even become King/Earl out of ambition. He even gives a whole speech about it.
thank you for making this. im not a big fan of this format. i was disappointed. i really wanted to hear you talk about the price of ambition. but anyway, different people have different preferences. looking forward to the next one.
I was hoping to hear his thoughts on this matter, too. Yep, he can try a different format. And it's not the kind of format for me - I come here to look behind the curtain of storytelling; most of the emotional understanding you get from a cut like this I can get from staying in front of the curtain as usual, watching a movie. Not to diss on you trying new things, but this kind of feedback is also viewer feedback.
Definitely want to, will take a while before it will become available to edit though. Thomas will definitely deal with heath ledgers joker in his next video on the dark knight though
K, that just broke my heart. Beautifully done. I liked it most when you showed how their past actions conflicted what they later professed, like Plainview's tenderness for the adopted son he eventually rejected, Nina taking comfort from both her mother and her rival whom she later hated. Heartrending stuff.
Remember, devoting your life to your ambitions is not worth it. You throw away beautiful things such as family and friends for what? Wealth? Pats on the back? Achievements? It doesn't matter in the end. Love those around you and do what you can to keep them close and not push them away.
Vikings is probably one of the best medieval show out there. Not only are it’s themes so well executed, but the story is so unique. I can’t stand traditional fantasy or regular medieval media because of how stereotypical they can be. Vikings tackles a new society of people that we’ve never really seen on screen before, in a realistic manner, not only because of the plot, but because of actions and consequences in this world and how realistic these characters are. Currently I’m on season four part two and I’m still loving it. Anyone who hasn’t seen it please go and watch it.
The thing about Ragnar Lothbrok is that he never wanted fame or power, he just wanted to sail west. He was forced into every leadership position he ever had and it drove him insane in the end
Thought about it when i made the video, cause of course I know the scene where he says i did not become king out of ambition. But i think its more complicated, ragnar asked the seer if his sons would become more famous then he, the creator of the series himself said ragnar was worried about his sons becoming more famous then he. And ivar said, ragnar didnt want to go back to england, he wanted to go to paris, he wanted to be famous, he was viking. But of course ragnar also said power always corrupts so its a complicated mix
I find that when I have the story and lingers in me, it is a little hard to start. The last time I started a short story, I woke up in the AM and began writing. It's a challenging thing trying to figure out how to start a story, but when I start it, it is almost magical. I am surely enjoying your videos. They are inspiring. Thank you
The price of lack of ambition is painful and expensive. Pick your poison. If I had a choice, I would like to be apart of something important and meaningful.
