This place looks so good! We've been looking for a good Malay restaurant in Sydney as we just returned home after being in Malaysia for 3 months. The food here looks so amazing and it's a great concept allowing everyone access to this delicious food while paying what they can.
This is such a great find guys! Why was this restaurant not up on my google search when i was looking for halal restaurant in Sydney :'( I think ive tried them in one of their restaurants in Istanbul and they also had that beef lungs on their buffet (not pay as you wish tho) and it was delicious! I wish I knew they have a branch in Sydney! Also the pay as you wish concept is great. Do you reckon if theres any other cafe or restaurants in Sydney doing the same concept? And yay finally a vlog on halal and non-middle eastern foods from Sydney and an interview in bahasa! Wish Helmi could get some more of the jajanan pasar. We paid $30 for each plate haha, surprisingly so filling & couldn't eat much 😆 Oh the Blue Mountains was short break without camera😂maybe we should go back to do vlog, it was sooo nice and love to be back again

You can never finish a meal with a dessert. Bears has a sweet tooth like Helmi. Never feel bad for dancing while eating a delicious dessert. We loved hearing Helmi speak her native language, it was really beautiful to hear. Glad to see that you both really enjoyed this food and had a great experience! It was so cool to hear you speaking Indonesian at the end, maybe you guys could do a video of you cooking food you had growing up as children. Also Helmi, try cooking bamia! It's an Egyptian/ Middle Eastern dish where we use whole okra so no slimy cutting is involved!
The Malaysian fried beef lung dish is amazing, gotta try if u can hehe.. Thank you, I never heard bamia before actually so keen to try. Love to speak more Indonesians in video when we can 😎
All the food looked amazing. From the Dal and the lamb curry, and the fish curry, and tomato rice. We have never had Malay food before.. but it looks similar to some Indian cuisines. Never tried beef lung, but glad to hear that it was tasty. We love food with so many sauces to dip your roti in!
Lychee mint lemon sounds amazing. You can’t go wrong with that bread and curry meat. I don’t know about beef lung but everything else on Helmi’s looks so good too.
For okra first wash it n pat dry with paper towel .. . Let it dry then ...cut it n whn u fry put abit more oil ... few minutes it will slime but once its cooked slime will go

Wow! Ikhwan Cafe in Sydney Australia! Just a bit of historical background of Ikhwan Cafe. I believe Ikhwan Cafe is part of Global Ikhwan Group of companies which linked with Al-Arqam once a very prominent and influential Islamic movement in Malaysia during Islamic resurgence era of 1970s-1980s. During their heyday they even have their own community village in Sungai Penchala and were economically self-sufficient and independent with a number of factories producing halal food products from noodles to various types of chillies and tomato sauces, soy sauces, fish cakes, fish balls and many more halal food products. Unfortunately they face discrimination and their movement was banned and their version of Islamic teaching is still considered as deviant by Malaysian Government until now. Many of their leaders were arrested under the draconian law of Internal Security Act (ISA) a form of detention without trial and forced to denounce their movement's Islamic belief publicly in national television. A very sad and tragic ending. But they showed their resilient by transforming the banned Al-Arqam movement into Global Ikhwan with many business ventures all over the world. I'm glad they are thriving now despite being banned and their leaders used to be arrested by Malaysian Government.

Yup over 4 years and they only this pay as you wish buffet on Sunday. During other days, normal pay meals (they setup price) 🙂

they had nasi kandar about 2 weeks before we visited. need to go back again when nasi kandar in the menu ahha
