Would like to have seen a side-by-side comparison of the compression lock. Fakes are often very easily identified with an angled slope as opposed to a more boxed shape.
At some point he mixed the two up. At 4:45 he says the real is on the right but it says “Golden. Colorado” the real one actually has the common which is on the left. “Golden, Colorado”.

Came across this video and am wondering if you have taken the knife apart to compare the internal hardware. Were the liners milled and is there a "chip" in the bottom of the liner?
@@rossco-dps5392 Yes the chip is a sign that the knife is more than likely authentic. There are other things I would look for to ensure authenticity but the chips in the liners are definitely one of the criteria used in my assessment. I've had numerous pm2's and all of them have the same structure/milling.
I have a fake and the logo is different from the real one, but it's closer to the website logo, where the triangle is closer to the edge of the spider and it really look like a triangle sharpmaker rod (they were selling the triangle sharpmaker before making knives)

I just bought a fake one for $20. It doesn’t hold the edge very well, and the mechanism isn’t very smooth. You can’t flick it easily. The steel is 440C and the seller was honest about it.
Sadly I ended up with a fake carbon fiber scale version. I can tell because the hole was drilled not quite the right distance from the top, and the blade coating is a black oxide not dlc 😔
Funny you say that, I've bought quite a few Chinese clones of items and compared them directly to the "genuine" and found the clone to have tighter tolerances, better machining and finishes and for a fraction of the price. China makes some of the best stuff in the world alongside some of the absolute worst.
@@MDM1992 all depends what you order. if you order junk for a dollar store, china will make and sell you junk, the best and cheapest junk. if you order high tech machinery or parts, like a rocket engine for example, or a drone, or 5g cell tower, china will also make you that, and they will do it just as good anyone else can do it but for 1/3 of the cost.
The fake has an Inconsistent grind and is slightly polished. Maybe even a convex belly to it from the video. Very impressive fake. I only purchase from authorized dealers. Thanks for sharing
That’s a real Para 2, just send it back to Spyderco and they will take care of the issue. QC is actually done by real people, I wouldn’t put it passed them that a few bad ones got through after a 12 hour shift.
Lots of companies subcontract their knives in Taiwan and China. What's important is quality control and quality of materials. The Asian knife makers have progressed very quickly, they now can make flawless copies.

I don't have this version of Spyderco ( I have a tenacious ) , but Used my cell phone camera to take a few pics of the spyder stamped logo and found mine is real (as long as you get the logo in focus at tne minimum focal distance) you shoudl be able to get a decently clear pic when you zoom in on it.. Purchased it from a dealer who is an authorized Spyderco seller in the USA . The spyder logo might one of the easiest ways to figure out what one might have purchased . Blade sharpness retention would be another way . but , if you were to get a fake that uses "good / hard " steel , that would make if difficult to truly know ,what it is. I have a knock off SOG that has really hard steel for the blade . But for sure it's a knock off . It was to cheap to be a real SOG knife . It works OK, but is a PITA to sharpen . Having trust from who you purchase from is ,imo, important . Also ,Some boxes mgf'ed in China are not exact copies . I have seen vids showing differences for Cold Steel knives that are a dead give away ... I would presume that would also go for al other knives . Imo , it's not only 1 thing a buyer needs to look at these days. Because the quality of the knockoffs have goten much better ,in some cases . The over-all is important . I too also saw some small differences in the blade shape and handle in the video . But My eyes are not so good ,so it might be me .

It comes to my mind that...how are the cloners actually make clones that is so good near perfect like the real ones just like in this vid? Methods they used, process, etc. Could it be that they bought some real Spydies first and reverse engineered them, improving the "defects" through trials n errors n whatnot? As for me I once bought a clone Para 2 out of curiosity to compare it with my real one for measly $17.62 (hell even a 2nd hand beaten a$$ Para 2 ain't gonna cost that low). Which I end up with a clone that is not as good as the one on this vid but still heck deceiving if one didn't observe it closely. The clones are getting scarier these days.
I bought a Paramilitary 2 S110V from BladeHQ and the blade dulls before I could finish saying Paramilitary. I'm so disappointed. I'm just cutting a couple of papers and the blade dulls like crazy.
Fakes have become so good that only the steel quality is what makes a difference since it is very uncommon to get from China a true CPM S30V or even less CPM S110V, CPM S45VN and such.
I wouldn’t worry. The ones sold on Amazon are sold and shipped by a company called Hardware Sales, and they’re listed on Spyderco’s website as being an authorized dealer. I think you’re ok. I just got mine from Amazon and had the same fear, but I researched everything and it checks out.
Older paramilitary 2s are constantly confused with fakes because they've made small changes. I don't support these types of videos, because just like new collectors can learn from them, so can counterfeiters. Most of us can spot a fake.

Fake news!!! My manix 2 has a messes up spyder on the blade. What you got there is a Friday special bud. Probably quitting time and the worker said f it. I also got a pm2 with a pivot cut out on the linner that's a little oversized that causes blade to not free fall all the time and early lock up.
you give china WAY too much credit in this video. if one of these are fake (and neither of them are) it would fool even spyderco. and the action being stiff on the "fake" PM2 is so cringy.. i just cant. and also even if one of these was fake ( its not) you did a really poor job examining it. you could have taken it apart and compared the milling in the liners!

I think that you have two authentic spyderco knives, they look very similiar. The one knife you say is fake, might be a factory 2nd spyderco knife.

Some steels spyderco uses. China can’t even get. With Chinese knockoff you’re paying premium steel prices while getting 440 steel.
